Yeah, it's me again to talk about how I've put my HeadBlade back on the shelf once more. I think, in my opinion, I've come to find that it may depend on the shape of an individuals head whether or not the HB is going to work well for them. Can anyone add to this? What I mean is that most of the people I can see, going by avatars, have decently rounded shaped heads. I know some may have a little bump or two in the back but for the most part they look nice and round on top and sides. I have a few crevices on the top and sides of my dome. Plus some sharp "juts" in the back. This may be the reason that I keep nicking myself so bad with the HB. What really amazed me was that I have been using the HB trips for the past week and that is what I nicked myself with twice. I never thought I would have cut myself with the trips. I was going pretty slow too and cut a nice gash in the top left side of my noggin. Seeing as how I'm going to be back to work soon I think I'm just going to suck it up and dish out some dough for some extra Fusion cartridges. I've been using that to shave my face. I think I'm just going to start using it on the dome again as well. 2 birds with 1 stone. Yeah, I will be spending a bit more money to stock up on blades since I'll be going through them faster but I just can't take the abuse from the HB anymore. Not knocking it either. Just saying it must just not be for me after all the tries I've given it.
-
I think it has to do with head shape and stubble texture.
HeadBlade Sport with Atra blades cut me up every time.
HeadBlade Sport with HB Trips does OK for me. I only get cut if I go too fast.
Judging from other posts, it's the other way around for other guys.
-
ain't never tried headblade...
but I ain't never had a problem with the FUSION.....I've only nicked myself maybe twice in almost 9 months of shavin'
I lather up the face and noggin and kill them two birds all the time, Lancemeister!!!
Yeah they're a bit pricey....but I can't imagine someone goin' into the poor house because of 'em.
I'm on a tight budget, but when I look at my expenses I ain't sayin', "Dayam, if I just cut out the FUSION cartridges we could afford that Hawaiian vacation....guess it's the backyard BBQ again"
-
got a wild hair and tried the HB trips again this morning. they still don't get my noggin as close as my mach III.
-
Tried the HB a while back. Filed it in the trash can.
-
I have never had any trouble with the headblade...i use trip blades and only time I ever cut myself is when i put on a new blade...seems like i cut myself at least once or twice..but after a few uses...it does great for me.
-
I believe its gotta do with the shape of your head and how your hair grows...I always scrape or cut the back and sides of my head with the HB. What I have bought recently is this Remington electric shaver that my barber uses (can't remember the model, I mentioned it in another one my posts). It is so quick, and it leaves it damn near as close as the HB. I shave my head in the morning with the electric shaver, and it is so quick and easy, you can go over your head every which way, and as rough as you want, and it doesn't leave a mark.
However as Tyler had mentioned the stubble does grow back a little quicker; if that bothers you, you can always pass a quick shave with the machine again.
What I have done however, when I want the shave just a little closer, and to last longer. I shave first with the Remington, then pass over with the HB. It hardly ever scrapes or cuts when I shave first with the machine. I also usually shave first from front to back, horizontally, even on the sides and back. THen I might lightly shave from bottom to up. What also makes a big difference here is putting the pressure on the back of the shaver.
Good luck man, did they make you shave off the facial hair?
-

Hey Tom.Hows the Jersey Shore?Long time no speak.LOL.
Aside from my disastrous HB classic with generic blades, I've always loved my HB.
I get the best and closest shave with the Sensor XL cartridges.

Generic blades can be hazardous to your health. :x!

The Jersey shore is doing great Jesse. Just spent the summer down in Stone Harbor. Trying to get used to being a landlubber again.

I'm the same way man. Headblade with Atra's cut me up every time. With The HB triples, Sensors, or the HB Doubles I'm just fine. HB Doubles are still a bit more rough than the others, but nowhere near as bad as the dreaded atras! :Xo!

Ok Lance, enough is enough. Build a little coffin, bury the sucker and get some closure. g@b@ j/k bro. Do what ya gotta do

even though i've never tried it; the Headblade , as a 'gadget' seems to be of the same ilk as the 'Vegematic' of many decades ago . That was a cheap gadget that claimed to cut veggies at record speed anyway you wanted them. Ever seen a Vegematic? Exactly ... they are extinct--;cause they didn't work. ((there was a parody of a similar gadget on SNL ; again , many years ago. Instead of getting perfect french fries; the user lost a finger or two) ... But anyway; the Headblade as this cute little rolling gadget that effortlessly slides across the head giving perfect shaves just sounds too good to be true. I've heard many stories about servere gashes. Yet some of you guys seem to love it; so ... I don't know. For me ; from my very first shave the Fusion has been perfect. I have virtually NEVER broken skin; and the blades last a long time for me; nearly a month; shaving 4 - five times a week. So Lance; ditch the headblade and embrace Fussion !

I disagree. Personally I love the headblade and I'm sure (like anything else) it won't work for everyone, but it is an excellent product. I don't think comparing it to extinct info-mercial items is a fair comparision...

Vegematic?!?! Noooooo!!!
For me it was finding the right blades that worked on my scalp.

Same here , John, you're way off base comparing it to that old scam.
The Headblade is a great piece of equipment that gets the job done as intended.
As most guys who use it have said, they may have to experiment with blade combo's, due to the fact that each head will have different shapes, bumps and juts. What works for one may not work the same for another, we all know that.
Like the way X and Padre can't use the Atra doubles, I find them to work best for me.
I've been using the HB triples all week, and I don't find them as easy to use as some, but that's how they effect my shave. For me the Atra's, Sensor's and the HB doubles work best. Headblade will take some time to get used to, and if you have patience, once you get it down it really works great.
Padre, you simplified it perfectly:
Vegematic?!?! Noooooo!!!
For me it was finding the right blades that worked on my scalp.
That's really all it's about.

...from my very first shave the Fusion has been perfect....ditch the headblade and embrace Fussion !
Yeah, babay!!

I'm not knocking it like I have said many times. But I have finally come to the conclusion that the HB just isn't for me. I think it does have to do with certain shapes of the head and hair thickness. For some it may glide nice and smooth. For me it just always seems to be pulling at my hairs and catching. Almost dragging a bit. Then not to mention the nicks. I shave in the shower, use plenty of shave gel, the whole nine. I think as Paul mentioned I'm just going to get it over with so I don't have to bore you all with my horror stories any more. Now where's that little coffin. >:D

X, Well said, I Totally agree.
The Headblade is a wonderful product. When used correctly and with good blades it gives an effortless problem free shave.
Comparing the Vegematic to the Headblade is truly laughable.
-
I've taken to putting a bit of Somerset Shaving oil on my head first. then the shaving cream. Seems to lube it up a little bit more causeing a lot less nicks with the headblade. Plus it has menthol which feels nice.
-
OK TWO POINTS HERE....
#1........John.....Take it back....take back what you said about the headblade. The headblade does a perfect job for me everytime. Like I said only time I have gotten cut is when I put a fresh new blade on it....and even at that ...it is because I have some sort of bump or something on my head......I have mastered it enough now that I do it in the shower and I dont need a mirror....especially around the ears...i feel like I am at the Indy 500 when I go around the curves.
#2.......If I had been in those shorts.....the pic would have been alot better. You all can make fun of my shorts if you want....but we are all different. Why is it I feel like Pee Wee Herman when he got caught in the theater??? Leave my shorts alone.......If you really want....I can put on my new shorts ( red and white stripes) I found them at Goodwill...they are crotchless! Yeah ..what ya think about that ..huh???? Yeah you heard me...! LOL
NOW SCRAM!

I've had a headblade classic since shortly after going SLY. I feel alot like Lance. I keep pulling it out of the drawer thinking maybe this time will be better, but it never is. I pulled it out again 2 days ago. At least I don't slice my head anymore. I did that the first time and took a big chunck outta my scalp that made me put it away for quite awhile before I ever tried it again.
For the past couple of months I have rotated between a Mach III, Fusion, and Schick Quattro. I can't say that I think that any of these 3 is that much better than the other. They are all good. I would probably recommend the Schick Quattro as the most bang for your buck. Always gives a good, close shave and the blades are almost half the cost of Fusion.
For all you Headbladers....I say "More power to ya" wish I was one of you, because the blades are less expensive and I do like the design of the HB. Just never can seem to get a good shave with it.
-

John I respect your opinions. You are free to have them on here.
I do not mean laughable as in the irony of the comparison.
I mean laughable as a ridiculous comparison. Like comparing a Silverback gorilla to a piece of chalk

OK I have an IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!
.....................ok ....why did everyone just run? You havent even heard what Im gonna say yet.........hey you have to give me at least a little credit....i havent lost it completely...
OK you ready for my idea?.................YOU! YEAH YOU....Get back in here..and listen to me.
I think for all of those guys who have trouble with the HB, well we need to have a training seminar....get you all use to using the HB. Its teh coolest and most slickiest device made to use on your head that has ever been made....except for Tylers veggie peelers....damn those things hurt...but with the use of Headslick....anything is possible...that stuff is good...especially when you pair it up with the HBsport. Some say they have trouble manuvering the HB....after about a week of shaving you will have it down to getting the closest most slickiest shave ever in about 3 minutes....i guarentee it
........................OK you can go now! Thanks

All kidding aside; ... it seems to me with the headblade (and I have to admit , i've never used one) its all " ..... if you use the right blades" and "if you use enuf headslick" ... and "if you practice a week or so with it" ... "then its GREAT ! ! " .... to me it just doesn't seem worth the trouble. As I've said before; when I started shaving I used the Fusion; and from the very first shave it has been perfect. no cuts; no nicks; no irritation ..... Who knows; maybe I'd have just as good luck with the Headblade; .... but I guess I'm in a "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mode with my Fusion :@` And all you irrate Headblade users ... I've just been yankin' your chain. I'm glad you enjoy the Headblade; keep on goin' with it .... I just don't think it's for me ....
-
John...we are going to hog tie you down and start using the headblade on ya. LOL...
Nah really...im in the same boat as you John.
Doesnt matter how you shave your head..or what you shave it with...as long as you are gettin that smooth dome look. And I need to make a correction in one of your statements...I only have to use a dime size amout of headslick to shave with. I know ..it maybe different for different guys...but that is all I have to use and a blade on my headblade with my headslick usually last any where from 5-7 weeks. So cost wise...it benefits me....
Like you said..." If it aint broke..dont fix it". Unless you are with the federal gov't. They will "TRY" to fix something jsut because they "Think" they can LOL
To all my Sly Bro's....Keeper smooth!
-
...and I have to admit , i've never used one....
I think that sums up a lot of it right there. You may want to actually TRY a product before you review it. Just a thought... :/O
-
Everyone's skin, head shape, coordination, etc. is different. Therefore, the same tool is not going to work for everyone. And the same reason that one brand of blade on a HeadBlade is not going to work the same as a different one for different people. This also goes with the amount of shaving cream or gel. Then, when you start getting more advanced and can tell the difference, even when very small, in the closeness of a shave from one blade/gel/cream combo to another.
One of the reasons that I use a product for a week before giving it a review is because I like get an average of how the product works. For example, how long a person has been up before shaving can alter how good their shave is. So, if I shave with a product for the first time within 15 minutes of waking up and then the next time after being awake for an hour, I can get completely different shaves. To judge the product on one try would be unfair to the product. It also helps to really learn how to use a product before deciding if it's a good product or not.

Tyler....damn you...you get so technical...LOL.....but gotta love ya man.. LOL

Well said man. I agree totally with the waking up thing. I shaved the other day around 6pm in the evening and I think it was probably one of the best shaves I've gotten. I stayed pretty much stubble free for over 12 hours. That was using the Bald Guyz shave gel and my old Mach 3. This was the first time I shaved that late. Maybe that's one trick with my skin type. I need to shave a little later in the day?
-
Lance, I've found that my shaves are better if they're later in the day... today for example I didn't have classes or work so I didn't shave until 4pm due to doing homework and as with all the other times I've shaved in the afternoon, it's about as flawless a shave as I've had

I think it's dependent on the individual and what they feel comfortable with. I bought the HB Sport from Ebay and gave it a try. The front and the sides were amazing shaved beautifully. Around the back was a different story and I really didn't have time that day to try and get used to it. I take it out along with my Quattro and always end up using the Quattro because I know what I'm doing with it and the fact that it gives me a really close shave without any nicks or burns. One thing though the Head Slick really rocks and so little needs to be applied.
-
...and I have to admit , i've never used one....
I think that sums up a lot of it right there. You may want to actually TRY a product before you review it. Just a thought... :/O
Not if it looks like it's gonna take away half my scalp ! !
-
I started with the HB and I have tried my fusion, and I'm cordinated enough to keep using the fusion, the HB is so much easier to work around the skull. but as so many have said its just a matter of what works for your head type and skill level.
-
My initial impression when I opened up and used the HB was "Damn, I can't return it now". However, with time, I got used to it and now can use with great results and few, if any, nicks. Just because it worked for me though, doesn't mean that it will work for everyone. It depends on your head shapes, etc.....
Bottom line, use what you feel comfortable with and what gives you the closest shave.
Whatever you use, just keep it SLY!
