Title: Back full circle
Post by: JohnMont on September 13, 2007, 05:46:42 PM
So here I am -- photo today (Sept. 13)  with beard back .    I think i'm done experimenting for the time being ....   it's nice to just have a standard routine; shave every one or two days; trimm up the beard  every few days. ....

When I think back to how much time I had to spend on "my hair" even with an ivy league arranging the front so it'd look right; .....   can't imagine all that fuss now.   I love not combing/ brushing ; just splash water on the noggin while I'm washing my face ... and that's it !!

The Freedom of Sly  ... feels good .

John

John,  Looks great, Bro,  I think the beard on you is definitely the way to go.  Me???  Well I gave up on the half goat yesterday and I'm back to the soul patch below the lower lip.  Kinda the BaldRob look.  I think I'll keep it this way for awhile anyways.  It's easy to maintain and just gives the face a little something.

John, the beard looks great with your slick dome!
I can't get over how smooth your head looks, definitely super sly and a good look for you, bro.
I am glad you have found a routine you want to stick with. I sometimes think it's better with less fussing around over this and that. Find something that works for us and then make it part of our regimen. Good to see you back in the pic.

Yeah man, I like doing that to mess with people.  To be totally honest, I'm not even really shaved.  The old pics I use to use are of my cousin.   ;D ;D  Naw, J/K.  I ended up not taking the grocery job because another job called 2 nights ago and hired me.  It's a general cleaning job that has a lot better hours so that I will not be worn out.  Basically it's like 6pm to midnight M-F.  Home by a decent time to still get sleep, decent starting pay, and days off to still watch my son and go to school next year.  Can basically look like whatever I want and wear whatever.  Hence, keeping the facial hair.

Oh crap.  Just realized I hijacked this thread.   #i&@  Sorry John and other slys.  Commence butt chewing...NOW!

I don't mind.  I've hijacked many a thread myself; not realizing it wasn't a 'kosher' thing to do.  sometimes it seems a natural thing to do ; like the way a subject can be changed in a regular conversation.  Anyway; I was concerned about ya; Lance, as I said in your other thread.  There is just something that sticks in my craw about being  TOLD what to look like ....   was a big issue with me growing up; and and I guess i'm still not over it. (( maybe one of the reason I shave my head now is that many guys in my line of work grow their hair and beards very long ) . ...   So , to say the least I was VERY sympathetic to your plight; and glad it is resolved.

Its great to hear that you got an even better job Lance and one that will let you be yourself.   Good luck and keep us informed as to how it goes.

John....I dont think anyone in here is MAKING you do anything.  We all have our free right...I think they are just telling you what looks best on you....
Sorry if we come across to you as being pushy.  It just all makes for good conversation thats all.  My apologies if I have come across that way.  Not like anyone is standing in front of another wiht a gun to his head...telling he/she that they are going to do it or else.
Its all cool Bro....dont sweat it....YA GOTTA LOVE  :@` :@` BROTHER HOOD!

Lance, good to hear you found another job that allows you to keep your family time and set schedule, pays well and is more lenient on facial hair.

Like John said , we all hijack now and then, (look at Tim,  ;) ) it is more like a regular conversation, but then we reel it in.

Also, John, no one can tell us what to look like now (except our wives, lol), we're all adults.
I was the same way growing up, (long hair, earring, tats, leather jacket, etc.).
I think it's better to stand out and stand for something. Of course, our jobs will dictate how far we can go on that. That won't change, unless you own the company, or hit lotto!, lol.

I could be wrong here and I wouldn't blame John for setting me straight if I am.  But I don't think he necessarily meant us here on this forum when he stated "TOLD" what to look like.

I'm sure John understands that we were only giving helpful opinions on a subject he may have asked about.

I think you may have taken that the wrong way TimmJ.  But like I said, I could be wrong.

What's up John?  Chime in brother.

Hey Timm;  all I can say is " I don't know what you're talking about ! !"   ...  I wasn't taking offence at anything you or the other guys said.  Maybe I just worded something funny and you missread.  I was just telling Lance that I'm happy he is not in a job where he's being told how to look --it's something that's bothered me in the past . .........       OK ... Now  I THINK I see what you meant.  Guys; I wasn't implying that I thought you all were "telling me how to look" back when I was on the fence.  In a way you were, I guess, but really ; you were all telling me what I WANTED to hear.   Whey else would I be in this forum but to get talked into going sly ?!?!?  ......  so anyway; it's all good; hope I've make myself clear. .... Now go out and get a haircut, Timm ! ! ! ! .....

Yes..see John...and everyone else...Thats what I hate about emails.  It can be taken many different ways..  I guess the best thing to do is to contact person who made the comments and see how it was suppose to be taken.  Sounds liek alot of trouble.  I guess we will make it thru....we are the brotherhood of sly ....am I correct??
Its ok John...I wasnt jumping you either....just making a statement....just didnt want you to have ill feelings towards me or anyone else in here....be we are cool..RIGHT?? O0

Great news re the job Lance. So the facial hair was saved, as opposed to shaved, at the last moment then?

John, I know exactly what you meant about being told how to look when you were younger. When I was at school, in the early 70's, I really wanted to have long hair but was always forced to get it cut when it got to a certain length. I did have it long for a little while when I was 17 - but by the time I was 20 in 1982, it was already beginning to recede, just as everyone was getting into flat-tops & bleaching & colouring & all that stuff ... I would have loved to have gone in for some of that too but, due to the receding etc it wasn't really an option. It always made me slightly resentful that for most of the years when I could have had the hairstyles I wanted, I wasn't allowed, & then, when I should have been able to decide for myself ... the dreaded receding kicked in. So now, thankfully, there ain't nobody gonna ever tell me how I should look again!

SLY FOR LIFE!  O:O
