Well, I tried to appease the lovely Mrs. Schro. As most of you know, she is just not a fan of the sly look on me. I told her I'd grow the hair back to a #1 setting, but if my sebhorreic dermatitis returned, I'd shave my dome again. Well, after tryng tea tree oil, the diluted vinegar, and medicated shampoo, the SD was just too much. When she saw how much I was still scratching while trying to accomodate her, she just said "Why don't you just shave it again"? Afraid of the typical female double talk, I tried for a little while longer. but the itching was too much to deal with. I got 100% relief from the SD when I shaved my head.
This morning, I let each of my kids use the Wahl clippers and shave half of my head. When my daughter took her turn, she said "You got a lot of dandruff, Dad". I then told her to tell Mom that, which she did (figured it'd strengthen my cause). I then went on a run, showered up and dusted off the HeadBlade. Well, I'M SLY AGAIN.
For the first time, I'm seeing a bit of irritation on the sides of my dome (maybe because I haven't shaved it in a while), and there is clearly a need for some sun, but I'm happy with the decision. So far, the wife hasn't made a negative comment.
I'll update my pic shortly....
-
Hey you did what you wanted to for your relationship...I'm sure she sees that...nice work!
And BRO!!!!! You're slick, full bald and fully SLY again..as you should be! Nice!!!!

Good for you, Schro. You did what you had to do for your marriage and hopefully the lovely Mrs. Schro will appreciate it all the more now and you'll never have to go through that again. O0 O0
-
Some things are just meant to be. Welcome back into the fold. ^-^
-
BTW, Schro, Was it as good the 2nd time as it was the 1st???
-
Any relief for the itching is a good thing. I do have some bumps this time around, but I think it's a result of not shaving it for a while.
-
Schro, glad to hear you're back to the land of the smooth. Bet it feels good, huh? must feel a bit like the first time you shaved.

Hey John, (and I'll try not to hijack this thread) but actually that pic was taken last weekend on a trip to St. Louis after 1 days growth of trying to grow a half goat. Pretty pathetic, I know, but I'm still at it a week later and it only looks a little better. Still undecided on whether to revert back to Mr. Clean or not. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming. LOL....
-
Schro, sorry to hear that you didn't have the relief that you wanted with the buzz cut, but it's cool to read that you have a slick dome again.
-
welcome back man.
-
she just said "Why don't you just shave it again"?
well.... schro it's gr8 that u compromised by getting the #1 cut. but it is even better that the wifey can compromise also. good 2 c ya, again with the slick dome. O0 just make sure that new avatar has a schrotini shirt. O0

Welcome back to the world of the SLY! O:O
-
a follow up.....
earlier today, I was on the phone with a client and the lovely Mrs. Schro was getting ready to head out the door to play golf with her chick group and she gave me a kiss good bye, both on the lips AND on the dome O0. The dome kiss is a first. Maybe she's turning the corner on the SLY look.
Also, the second shave since returning to SLYness seemed to allieviate some of the bumps and irritation. I truly think the fact I hadn't shave it in a while was the reason behind the first shave irritation.
Damn, it's good to be SLY again.
-
That's some awesome news schro, all the way around. O0

My Mrs. hasn't even given me the infamous head rub. What gives? I need to have a talk with her.

All seems right in the universe again!!!
Welcome back brother!

Same here. My son is constantly patting my head and trying his best to say "smooth." But being that he is only 18 months old and just learning to try and say words it sort of comes out "moove." Man, the things now a days that bring a big smile to my face that I would have never thought about. :)
-
That's great Schro, a kiss on the dome sounds like a major turn in favoring your slyness.
Seems to me you got big time approval! O0

Good to have you back, Schro. Glad the Schrodome is getting some much needed relief. I'll drink a toast to you tonight at dinner.
-
I've never received a kiss on the melon either. The only headrubs I've received have been forced ones.

UPDATE: So, it's been many months since I started shaving my head again for relief from the itching I get form sebhoerric dermititis. To refresh everyone's memory, I grew it back in mid-2007 to a #1 setting as a compromise for The Lovely Mrs. Schro (TLMS) and the fact she doesn't like the sly look on me, After the itching returned, I shaved it again after she noticed how much scratching I was doing. Well yesterday, I was in the kitchen getting a glass of water before heading back into the home office. TLMS was in the kitchen. Here's our conversation (as much as I can remember it):
TLMS: You really need to grow your hair back. It just doesn't look good.
Schro: I'm sorry you can't get behind this look. But this is the only time I've gotten complete relief from the scratching. I wish there was some other way that we both could be happy. :'(
TLMS: Looking at it, it's just a different color right now. Kinda white.
**I didn't shower or shave (or moisturize) yesterday, so there's some stubble and likely some deadskin. Plus, not a lot of sun these days**
Schro: Don't know what to say. Just be thankful YOU don't have to deal with this. >:( If you had to deal with this and found a way to relieve your suffering, I'd be shocked if you did anything different than what I'm doing. :Xo!
TLMS: Silence.......
Women........... :/O

I'm with Robmeister, can't make 'em happy no matter how hard you try.

Rob? Silence?
-
Wow, I thought she had finally come to understand that it was more about relief for you than looks. Hopefully that conversation helped solidify that for her.
-
That's my hope, T.
Her silence at the end of the conversation hopefully gave her the chance to think a little bit about what I'm going through.

Is that what I wasn't saying?

I don't understand why this is such a big deal to her. Your hair was pretty short to begin with, light in color and receding anyway. It's not like you shaved off a head of hair like Fabio's. It doesn't look all that different. I'll bet a lot of people didn't even notice the change. All this discontent over 1/8" of hair just doesn't make sense. ??? ???
Anyway, isn't she the one who suggested that you shave it again? :-\
-
I know, go figure....yes, she suggested I shave it again after she watched me scratch & deal with the discomfort. Go figure...

Next time I'd get it in writing.
-
Schro, I'm in a similar situation. My wife wants the #1 back. She can't stand the sly me. I'd use the word "hate" but it's so negative. Maybe the word dispise conveys the thought, or "grossly repelled" gives you a better mind picture. :x! It's like she was beat by a bald guy when she was little, or something like that. A thought that can't be changed without years of expensive therapy. Who knows. The reality is that some women can't handle the sly look; especially on their man! Maybe if I play this one right... I'll grow my hair, if I can get a ....! Naw, that wouldn't be right. l!#e

RazorX, no disrespect meant, but when you get married you'll know Schro's dilemma. I face a similar situation with my wife.
-
Actually, Razor makes a good point. The fact that she suggested I shave it again after watching me deal with the itching reeks of hypocrisy. I just feel like it's a no-win situation at times. Like I said when I brought this thread up again, I hope her silence spoke volumes when I told her that she should be thankful she doesn't have to deal with the scalp discomfort that I have.
-
RazorX, no disrespect meant, but when you get married you'll know Schro's dilemma. I face a similar situation with my wife.
I fully understand his dilemma. I'm just trying to make some sense out of why his wife doesn't like it. Your situation is different -- you shaved off a full head of hair and it's a very different look. I can understand why a spouse might not like drastic change in someone's appearance. Schro, on the other hand, did not shave off a full head of hair. The contention is all over an 1/8" of hair that was receding anyway. Not as huge a change in his appearance. I can understand how Mrs. Schro might prefer the way he looks with a little stubble, but I can't understand why she feels so strongly about it. I guess there really isn't an explanation; she feels the way she feels and people's feelings aren't always logical.
No disrespect intended toward anyone.
-
None taken....we're talking about a female here. :/O
-
schro, you have it right exactly. It makes no sense because guys usually think logically, and to a guy, it is just baffling to get such a reaction, especially when you factor in your scalp condition. And Razor, you are correct too. Shaving a full head of hair is way different than shaving what schro has left. Having a horseshoe, to me, is never a good look. But someone who shaves an entire head of hair can evoke a myriad of reactions... from really 'cool and edgy' to 'what the f*&k?' If I had a full head of hair, I doubt that I would be have ever shaved my head. I'm into easy and would probably have a very tight buzz that could be maintained weekly vs. shaving every day. But since I have lost a lot, it's not a big deal, about 5 minutes or so in the shower every day. If I could grow it all back now, I would probably split half the year buzzed and half the year shaved since I now love the look and feel.
-
All EXCELLENT points.
With my wife--whom I love dearly and have VERY little to complain about (as with schro, I'm sure)--it's not my WIFE I get frustrated with....it's the WOMAN LOGIC (holy crap, those two words just don't belong in the same sequence).
No offense to our valued women folk 'round here. God just made male & female very unique from each other.
They want us to think like them.....and we want them to think like us. :-\
It's only when both sides maintain an understanding of this presupposition that the best opportunity exists to get to the actual facts and heart of the matter. ***sigh***
In this instance I agree that Schro's position does address both the facts and the heart of the issue. O0

Yeah! What The Meister said!!!

OK, JUNE 8th UPDATE:
Yesterday, we hung around the house for a change (no soccer, baseball, softball, etc.). My two kids were playing Wii and the Lovely Mrs. Schro was kicking back reading the paper. I was getting ready to go out for a run. My daughter was having lunch and my son was playing baseball. When my Wii character was coming up to bat I said, "Wow, who's that good looking bald dude?" 8)
The Lovely Mrs. Schro looked up at the TV screen and gave the "Billy Idol" turned-up lip, disgusted look. WTF WAS THAT? :Xo!
I thought we were past all that sh*t. :(
In looking back at this thread, I am in total agreement with Razor's points. What's the big deal about 1/8" of hair? :/O
Oh well, guess her true feelings will never change.

Hey, Schro, My kids made me a cool looking bald dude for Wii, also. Luckily for me, my wife just never brings up the subject. I really don't know if she likes it or not. I think she just knows that it's here to stay, regardless.
-
I really know where Schro is at! I live in the same world.
When I buzzed, She Who Must Be Obeyed didn't like it, now she's urging me to grow it back to the buzz, ??? ???. Although she keeps her mouth shut most of the time, she lets loose if she's had too many martinis
I've agreed to let it grow out to a buzz starting mid-August-for my daughter's wedding in October--she's not a fan either! I've told both that it is back to skin on the day after the wedding, so why the effort and discomfort? I have some small hope that once they see the patches, and thinning after 10 months of seeing it sly and neat, they may come to their senses and realize that sly is better than shaggy. It's like they really weren't looking at the sad state of affairs before I buzzed then shaved. Well, it's going to be a long two months starting in August, but I'll do it for the daughter, but I really hope she comes to her senses.

At least she's stopped giving you a hard time about it. You can't force her to like it. I consider this a victory of sorts.
-
Man I feel lucky guys........... Mrs.Koz loves the SLY look on me. On the rare day I decide not to shave she always says, "I can't believe that you didn't shave today".

Very good point, Razor! Never considered looking at my situation from that angle. O0
