JEFFREY LEE is not interested in the soaring price of uranium, which could make him one of the world's richest men.

"This is my country. Look, it's beautiful and I fear somebody will disturb it," he says, waving his arm across a view of rocky land surrounded by Kakadu National Park, where the French energy giant Areva wants to extract 14,000 tonnes of uranium worth more than $5 billion.

Mr Lee, the shy 36-year-old sole member of the Djok clan and the senior custodian of the Koongarra uranium deposit, has decided never to allow the ecologically sensitive land to be mined.

Hey Tyler thanks for posting this.

This article was in one of the papers here in OZ and didnt even get a front page mention. Unfortunatley what is more important these days is who the latest celebrity was seen having coffee with and what the topic of the week that the politicians are mulling over.

This man should be a household name by now.

"Remember that guy who refused to accept $5Billion from a foreign company so they could rape his native land for uranium"?

I doubt anyone will ever know about him or his courageous stand against corporate greed and enviornmental indifference.

Hey Tyler thanks for posting this.

You're welcome.

It actually is quite amazing what he's doing because you know he's gotta be under extreme pressure from the corporations that want at the Uranium.
