Title: Buzz or Shave? Before
Post by: ROCKSTEADY on January 10, 2016, 12:29:37 PM
Hey guys, I'm about to turn 30 and decided that I'm going to buzz and/or shave my head. Hairline has always been high and has receding a lot the past 5 years. Also have a decent amount of silver hairs on the sides too.

I would start with the full headshave, and if you like it, keep it.  If you don't like the headshave, then keep a tight buzz or clippershave.  Whatever you do, keep that awesome beard, man!

Welcome, Rock Steady!
I would try a buzz first, if going all the way makes you nervous. You have great beard coverage and the glasses are a nice touch. Many will say go sly, and if you do, just remember you can always grow it back if you don't like it. Good luck!

Hello ROCKSTEADY, welcome aboard! You have a very good head shape and great beard. They are important elements, which will make you look good with a smooth bald head. I envy you! I think you don't have to worry about shaving all off, but of course you can try a buzzcut first, if you don't have enough encouragement, then decide to go on or not. Enjoy your style change!! :-)

Either choice would probably work.  Most of us are partial to shaved heads, but I think you'll look good either way.  Enjoy.

Clipper t first. See how you like it and go from there.

Buzz it as short as you feel comfortable with and see how you like it -- and then decide if you want to go further.  A complete shave will camouflage your receding hairline better than a buzz.  Good luck.

1. Keep the beard. It will look great with either a buzz or head shave.

2. Buzz.  In stages if you want. I started at #2, then #1 then #.5 and no guard.

3. The break out the razor and give it a try. 30 day rule. .

You can always grow the hair back if the shaved head is too much for you.  You will look good with a shaved head.

And if you linger here any length of time you'll find that the guys really like the SMOOTH feel of a freshly shaved head. The 30 days gives all of you enough time to get used to it.

Keep us posted.

Thanks for the tips and encouragement, everybody! I'm going to the barber tomorrow to have them buzz it.

My game plan is to get the buzz then allow some time for the change-shock to pass and get some sun on my buzzed head before trying out the complete clean shave look. Who knows though, I may not like the buzz tomorrow and end up going full shave anyways!

Will update tomorrow.

Sounds like a plan.  Do you know how short you want to go.  Your current hair style looks pretty short anyway.

I found that the shorter I went, the more frequent I needed a buzz, so I bought my own clippers and just did it myself.  The shorter you go, the less 'styling' there is and you just run the clippers all over each week and your hair always looks the same.

Not sure how short, definitely shorter than what I have currently since the length in front still gets "stringy" by the end of the day or if I wear a hat, which I really don't like the look of.

My only concern about buzzing myself would be being able to shape/clean up along the back of my neck. That does make shaving seem more appealing to me since I'd be able to do it myself and there would be nothing left to worry about.

For the price of a haircut, you can buy your own clippers with attachments and it's easy to buzz your own hair.

Since I shaved my head, I seldom wear a hat. Love to show off the shiny dome!

Sounds like you won't take long to go from buzz to bald.  Buzzing is not that difficult, even in the back.  Shaving is easy all around. Feels good. Pampers yourself.  Just nice all around.  Enjoy the shine on your head.

If you are buzzing short, you just buzz the back of the neck at the same setting - no need to carve.  It is easy to do.

I would buzz, and then shave if you feel confident enough.

DON'T SHAVE THAT BEARD!!!!!

Definitely keep the beard.  Agree with others that a buzz would be the first option.  When comfortable with that then go for the shaved look.

Hey everybody, there was a bit of a delay.
I went out to my car that day to find out it had been towed... from my own apartment complex!  :x!

Anyways, went and got a buzz, 2 on the sides and 3 on top... I like it, but I want it shorter now!  :*))

You guys are right, I've already begun asking myself "why did I wait so long???"!

Since you say you want it shorter, it sounds like you are ready.  So why not go ahead and razor shave it?
