Title: Just shaved! Need opinions/advice!
Post by: TLN89 on November 05, 2015, 09:38:07 PM
Hello everyone! Just started shaving this week.  Looking for some feedback. Also, I have some lines or indentions on each side of my head. Not really sure what to call them. Looking for some opinions on those also. Thank you all for your help.

Welcome to the board, sir!

That smile summed it up for me. The look suits you well.

As for the lines, don't sweat them. They are nothing to worry about. They are just part of you. You probably are far more aware of them than anyone else who sees you. We tend to be our own worst critic.

Glad you joined us.

I appreciate your thoughts! I was laughing when the picture was being taken. I have a couple other pictures of the top of my head. Is there anything that I can do about the lines? Don't really know whether to post them or not. I hope that I can get it to where it doesn't seem as if I have a hair shadow.

Welcome! It looks good to me...As far as the lines, they look like just little rolls of skin...they may flatten out over time, but if not, it's not a big deal...We all have some imperfections on our heads, but we eventually learn to brush them off. I take it that you had a full head of hair before you shaved, right?

Welcome to the group!  It's a good look on you, and agreed with the others about the lines, they do not even register on the "look at that!" scale....when I first shaved, my head resembled a very pale and shiny potato....I think I quit giving it any attention 2-3 weeks afterwards.  Congratulations on taking the step...feels good doesn't it???  O0

I see the 'lines' on your head as just creases. It's just part of your signature.  Nothing to be concerned about. A few guys have deep lines especially in the back. I think that might get in the way of shaving, but not your's.

You carry the bald look very well. With the smile, it looks like you really enjoy the look.  As a BBC guy myself, whether you still have a full head of hair, partial balding, or significant balding, your shaved head looks good.

Thank you guys! I appreciate it! My hair has really thinned out on top. Plus, my hair line continues to recede. Hope this look works. I have noticed that it is hard to get the hairs our of the creases. Any suggestions?

My only advice is keep shaving. You rock the bald head for sure. I think the lines add character.

I can grow some hair. It always looks so much thicker on the sides and back. Even if I go no blade on the clippers. For whatever reason I don't like the difference. The creases are pretty noticeable to me. Hopefully they just add character like you guys say. Thank you again.

All of us have bumps, ridges, and/or creases on our heads.  I have areas the no matter how much I try to get them smooth, they still feel lake sandpaper.  But the hair there is still not noticeable.  You may try to pull the skin tight while you shave the problem areas.

You look like a natural.  I cannot imagine you with hair.  Enjoy the sly life.  I know I am.

Thanks again! Is there anything I can do about the shadow that still seems to be there even though head feels slick? I appreciate everyone's feedback.

I have fast growing hair, and dark roots which seems to hi-light the shadow affect.  If you are an evening shaver, your head has a 6-9 hour headstart on your appearance, so a morning shave may buy you a little more shadow free time.

Another consideration is skin color, immediately after the first shave your scalp is a few shades whiter than the rest of you, when you get a little sun on it the shadowing will feel a little slower...don't rush the tanning, only thing worse than a sunburned scalp, is the soles of your feet being burnt  :o

You are right each time that I have shaved this week has been at night. How good of an idea is it to shave more than once in a day?

Yes, sunburns can be a pain. I would sometimes burn my scalp even with hair.

I'd let your scalp determine frequency.  When I first shaved, I would have to wait at least a day before attempting another shave since it was pretty sensitive.  Fast forward a few months, and I can shave twice in a 24 hour period if needed without any discomfort, I generally shave daily and learned to live with the shadow.

There are the few occasions that merit an evening shave (dinner at a restaurant, playing darts, social gatherings, etc.) but generally I just let it roll to the next morning.

If it is still feeling a bit sensitive you may want to rub a few drops of olive oil (a little goes a LONG way) it feels great, and it leaves a good shine without residue.

If the hair you are shaving is dark, you will have a shadow.  And as John said, the longer since you shaved, the darker the shadow.  On the plus side, when you go gray, the shadow will go away.

Thank you for your feedback! That is a good way of looking at it.

Any suggestions on getting the back of your head shaved slick?

Getting the back of your head smooth takes practice. Your hair can grow out in several directions. So it takes a few shaves to figure out the direction of the grain at different spots on the back of your head. IMO anyway.

Sorry, but your head is just NOT suitable for public viewing.  The "creases" are "crevasses," and falling into a crevasse can be fatal.  I suggest a paper bag (with eyeholes) and staying inside until after sunset.  Only we of the 1% can pull off the look; the rest of the wannabes are so lame...

Do you believe any of this?  Thought not.

Best of luck and stop obsessing.

I can't say that every other guy seems to have a shaved head, but it's rare that a day goes by that I don't see at least one.

It does appear that the newest trend is not shaved heads but "man buns," and there is a point beyond which my tolerance will not go...  Just what are they trying to prove?

A "man bun" is a non-sequitor.  It is as mythical a creature as a unicorn.  It is akin to that other fabled object - the "murse"!

Come on now. Doesn't look that bad I hope! Just wanting opinions on the creases. May post more pictures later to get more feedback.

Dude, you look great with a shaved head! We are all learning about our own heads as we shave them - what an amazing variety exists amongst all our bodies parts! It's part of being human. I didn't even register your "lines" until you pointed them out.
Keep rocking it!  O0

I am still very unsure of how the "crevasses" or "lines" look when I shave. I have shaved three times total so far since I started and I am having a hard time continuing to do so because I don't know what to do with them. The other thing is that they seem to be more noticeable when I wake up and a little red which seems to go away after a few hours, but the indentions stay. Anything that I can do to make them less noticeable?

The best way I've found to make my own flaws less noticeable is to focus on them a lot less. Stop staring at them. Stop telling myself I look weird because of them, etc.
Seriously.
Unless you're shorter than me, no one is looking at the top of your head, brother.

How do you do that? They are so noticeable to me.

Is there anything at all that can be done to the indentions?

Anything short of surgery, probably not. But even if you get surgery, will it make it any better? I think you should leave well enough alone, but that's just my opinion. They really don't detract from your sly head at all if you ask me.

I think your attention to your scalp details will diminish in a relatively short time, they do not seem to be in any direct line of site unless you are next to a tall person, or at the bottom of a stair.

I experienced a lot of different 'dynamics' within the first 2 weeks of shaving.  First the numbness to touch, feeling cold, blinding whiteness, my potato textured head with several scars on the back....and of course head shape... it was 2 weeks before people quit commenting about the new look, then another 3 weeks for me to actually feel comfortable with the style.

Give yourself some time to get acquainted with your new look, before too long when you look in the mirror, your eye's won't automatically shift to your lines.

For shaving...short strokes with skin pulled tightly

You've come this far, you may as well continue the look for a few more weeks before you make any decisions.  But honestly you own that look  O0

I appreciate the feedback. I want to be able to wear it and not automatically think about the lines or look at them. Do you have any idea as to why they are more noticeable and sort of a red color right after waking up?

"Bed head," I'd guess.
My whole face looks redder and more lined first thing in the morning!  :-[
