Title: Never say never ...
Post by: Razor X on August 19, 2007, 02:21:17 PM
I know I said I wouldn't do it, but today I just got an impulse that I acted on.  What do you think?  Be honest:

you could pull it off if you wanted to.

Razor, I think it looks good and makes you look 5 years younger.  How does it feel???

Feels OK.  I'm not sure I like the look yet.   I look like Grant Mitchell from EastEnders.   :-\

Yeah, I'm in agreement with Warhawk on this one.  While you could definitely pull both off, and the clean look does make you look younger, I think the goat is the way to go bro.  But rock it the way you like it.  O0

Razor, I honestly think you look good that way... definitely younger.  Give it some time before you decide.  I think it would be a good (and cooler) look for the summer.  Maybe compromise and have the goatee for the cooler months.  Either way, you look good.

Do I really look younger without it?  I took a lot of photographs before I got one that was halfway decent to post.  Most of them were God awful.  I don't know what it is about digital cameras, but they seem to magnify every flaw.  The pictures never seem to correspond with what I see in the mirror, so I'm not sure which is presenting the true picture.   I just hope my skin isn't as blotchy as it looked in some of those photos.   :-\

Razor, I hear you bro.  It's the same with me.  I can look in the mirror and be fine with myself and then turn right around and snap a pic with my digital camera and it's like, whoa...Is that me?  But for real, the new pic looks fine and you rock the clean look well.

Razor, I agree. Both looks suits you quite well and IMHO I like the Mr.Clean look on you. Makes you look a bit  younger too. I am doing the opposite, trying to grow the goat out.

Give it the 30dtp and see how you like it.

HAH ! ! Never say never, huh?  You seemed so sure about it; guess those impulses can just take over ...

Just yankin' your chain, brother.  You look GOOD; gives you a whole different ... hard to say exactly.  Whether you look 'younger' or just 'different' is hard to say.  but I hope you are  enjoying the change.  By the way; what do those a*#$^&@s  at work think?   Just remember, anything they say is probably a sign of their jelousy at your sense of idividuality.

My two cents on goatee vs. clean ; ultimately; I like your "edgy" look with the goat.  Nothing wrong with a little toughness or hard-edged-ness (is that even a word?) to your look.    ( the different-ness I was trying to put my finger on earlier I think is that w/o the goatee  you look a bit 'softer' ...  nothing wrong with that ... just shows the different effects you can achieve with facial hair ... )

So far my feelings have run from being unsure about it to really hating it.  It's going to be a bigger adjustment than I thought.

By the way; what do those a*#$^&@s  at work think?

They haven't seen it yet.

Razor, I think it suits you, definitely!!
Like anything that's different, it takes a bit of getting used to, but the more I see it, the more I like it. In fact, I think I'm leaning slightly toward you with the clean look  :)
you do look good with both though, and yeah, I'll go along with saying it does make you look younger.

Hey RazorX, I think the look suits you, but to me there's just something about the goat w/the sly dome that rocks.  I went to a "clean" look Saturday and I gotta say, I don't like it at all so I'm growing mine back out.

I'm the same way man.  I think it's more about getting bored of something to me.  I'll have my goat for a while and then just shave it all off one day thinking I want something different.  After about one day I'll be looking in the mirror saying, "why did I do that?"  Then I'll grow it back.  Then sometimes I'll grow a full beard and so on.  I guess that's why I change my mind with the HeadBlade so much too.  Just can't make up my mind.  ;D

I'm not as totally repulsed when I look in the mirror as I was yesterday, which I suppose is a step in the right direction.   I'm going to stick with it for a little while and see if I can get used to it.  Unless I feel differently tomorrow!!  :-\ :-\

Razor, the smooth look looks good on you, and I'm sure you will get used to it if you give it time. Like when you encourage the fencers, you gotta give some time to get used to the look. It's funny with all this talk about it, but lately I have been feeling like shaving my goat too. I've been trimming it down a little lower these last few days, and I have to say I may just take it off.
I tend to be like Lance with the hair thing now and then. What usually happens is I will shave it off during the hot months and then grow back in the winter. So far in the AZ heat I have left it, but I think I'm gonna give it (the clean look) a shot. I am curious to see how I look with no head hair and no facial hair.
Back to you, I think you will just decide what to do when you feel comfortable with what you want. It's that simple, sorta like finally deciding to shave the noggin, lol.
But I agree with the others, you can rock it either way.

Joe

I faced the same problem when I bought a camera to post my first topic here. Since, I took hundreds of clichés.
A simple shift in camera angle or source of light and it's an entirely different person.
I went from "I thought vampires did not register on camera" to "nice guy! Who is he?"

Do you know what made you do it ?

Do you know what made you do it ?

I was getting tired of the maintenance.  I've never been able to trim it myself and have it come out looking good.  There's a barber a block away from my office that I'd go to once a week and get it trimmed for $5.  He recently cut back his hours to just Fridays and Saturdays, so if I couldn't get there on a Friday, I'd have to wait a whole extra week.  It was just getting to be a hassle.   Aside from that, some grey hairs were starting to appear and that is something that is only going to get worse as time goes by, so Mr. Clean may be something I'm just going to have to live with.

My cheeks just look really fat without it and I'm not happy about that at all.

I guess I agree with what PBurke is saying ... though the 'clean' look is good on you too .

BTW; Timm; I'm still clean (had a brief beard grow-out; but I'm back to totally smooth for now (see my 'one month anniv. thread in General Disc.)

RazorX, I think you can pull off the Mr. Clean look like what a lot of people are saying.  But I think the goatee and moustache adds a "edge".  Last summer I had a brief period of being "Mr. Clean".  I thought it was OK but I like my facial hair better.  You can see my various looks in the gallery.  Currently, my goatee is no longer colored like in my avatar.  So mine is probably as grey as JohnMont's when he has one.

I am still very much on the fence on this whole thing and not sure what I'm going to do in the long run.  Last night I decided I was definitely growing it back.  I had a day off yesterday and didn't shave because my chin is sensitive to the razor.  I shaved my head, cheeks, and neck this morning and left the stubble on the chin and upper lip.  I was practically out the door  when I suddenly turned back and shaved the rest off.

One minute I kind of like the clean-shaven look and the next I really hate it.  I must say that I have gotten a lot of compliments -- even from my boss (and that is no mean feat).  It got a lot of attention at the gym, too.  Everybody says it makes me look younger.  I really don't know where this is all going to lead, but it is hard to ignore so much positive feedback.

Strangely enough, shaving off the goat has generated a lot more reaction than shaving my head ever did.   Go figure.    ???

Well Razor from what you posted, You did have the goat for quite a number of years eh? I must say,  you really do look like a different man clean shaven.

I am doing the exact opposite to what you have done. And If I remember, you are the one who encouraged me to grow out my facial hair. :Xo! And then you went and shaved yours. :*))

I had the goat for two years.  I think I'll probably be re-joining the fold shortly.
