Hi there.
I've been a fan of the site for a while now and I finally decided to join. I'm college age and have been receding a little bit for the last 2.5 years now. I haven't really made any attempt to grow it back or anything like that (I never wanted to be THAT guy who deals with the chemicals and the plugs and stuff). At this point I have a semi mohawk of thinning but thickish dark brown hair on top only (basically in the area where many tend to see the most "loss") but it is smooth shaven on the entire side and back area (goes nicely with a large beard). After using clippers to get it to around a 1 I decided to try out a bunch of different types of razors. I started with the Fusion, then the ProGlide, then the Headblade which is the easiest I find and with the smallest margin for error (slippage, cuts. In fact the first time I ever tried to shave with a razor I got a nice inch long gash behind the ear, glad I wasn't discouraged.). I also use the Schick Extreme 3 occasionally, also with HeadSlick, because it seems to work the best. I use a variety of creams afterwards to try to get rid of razor burn and to smooth it out. Since I do it at night I have more time to try to get close. I am able to get a smooth feeling on my hands when I feel it out but when I look in the mirror it looks like a typical 5-oclock shadow, thats a problem. I'd love for it to get to one shade for the whole head without the appearance of any stubble but I have some time to figure out how to do that later. At some point (probably the summer) I'll lose the thinning mohawk and go smooth alltogether, hopefully figuring out a good method for tanning the whole thing safely so that I can reach my overall goal of the one shade of slightly more tan-than-the-average-white-guy color that my face is.
Cheers.

Welcome, glad you joined.
Unfortunately if your hair is dark and your skin is light, there will likely be some shadow.
-
Welcome to the forum!
-
Welcome. Please give us photo of that killer mohawk you are rocking!
-
Welcome

Welcome. As others have said, if you're fairly pale-skinned, you are likely to have hair shadow. Just one of those things we can't control.
-
Glad you joined us, Nick.
That is a great attitude you have. And yes, the more your scalp tans, the lesser the shadow.
-
Welcome Nick!!

Thank you. Here's that pic.

Also here's an old photo of me when I shaved it off after it first started going (just to get a sense of what I was in for). Obviously without the beard I look much different. But I think I have a decent head shape, yeah?

Both photos look great to me. Of course, I like the long full beard best. When you are ready for the sly look again, keep the beard.
-
Oh I am absolutely gonna keep the beard when I loose the 'hawk. I get complimented on the beard several times a week.
-
Both pictures look really quite awesome, I must say.
-
To echo what others have said, both pictures look amazing
-
I say; rock that mohawk as long as you can. But from the photos, when the day comes to shave you will look great!
-
Dude, you look sick with a shaved head. Rock it man, looks nice!
-
Both photos look awesome IMO. I'm another one in favor of the beard.
-
Yes, but fan of the beard
