Title: Is it time for me to shave my head?
Post by: CE527 on January 30, 2015, 01:31:34 AM
Hi guys new here I have been a lurker for a while and I decided to finally pop the question. Lately I have been deciding on wether or not to shave my head because I can see how happy you guys have become after doing it. Over the past few months I have been extremely depressed from my hair loss I would have never imagined it would happen to me at such a young age (Im 22). Going bald has always been my number 1 fear as a teenager as I used to ALWAYS have long hair and I LOVED the feeling of long hair and all of the girls said I looked hot with long hair.

Now I realize that it is almost gone as it is so thin and I can't stand the way it looks now and I hate dealing with it how thin it is. It literally disgusts me looking at it. Since I have always have had my hair so long I just can't imagine myself bald Im worried I will look even worse.

Anyways Im really thinking about doing it early next week, should I go through with it and if I decided to can you guys give me some tips and opinions on products to shave my head?

Pictures below.

Welcome to the board!

I think that you still have a decent amount of coverage despite the widow's peak. That said, if you want to go all the way, I would get some clippers and buzz it all the way down first before shaving with a razor and shaving cream/soap/gel. Another option would be to go to a barber and have him do it for you. There are also plenty of videos on YouTube on head shaving to help you get started. Also, facial hair (beard/goatee/mustache) is a nice complement to a shaved head. Good luck!

Give it a try, if you are unhappy with how you are looking now, then try a change and see if that helps.

I suggest you buzz it short and then later shave.  Think you would look good.

Many guys with as much hair as you have left just keep that length for a long time.  So I don't see that it is necessary to shave your head now.

If MPB runs in the family, you may wish to 'jump the gun' on it and go ahead and shave your head and avoid the fretting over receding hairline and thinning hair.  Just do it.

You may wish to do as a number of us here on SBG have done, just go BBC.

Bald is a great hairstyle.  It looks sharp. Feels great. Easy to care for.

Let us know how you decide.  You could go either way.

I was expecting much less hair than what I saw in your pictures.  I don't think you need to shave, but you have lost some hair.  Your hair will grow back relatively quickly if you try it.  It's really up to you.  It's certainly simpler and easier for me to live without hair, even though I haven't experienced any hair loss, so I would never be someone to discourage trying it out!

Yes.

You don't "have" to shave, but IMHO you would look better with a clipper or razor shave.  You will feel much better too.

Post some after photos for us so we can compare them side by side.

Of course you don't have to shave your head, but if you want to try it, go for it. I guess you wouldn't be here if you didn't want to try the bald style. It is a mainstream style, like Mr Zed said, we have a full head of hair, but choose to shave our head because we like it.

I think the style you have is making it look worse than it is. Buzzing it down would hide the sparse areas but if you speak to a good barber they may be able to suggest other styles as well

Yeah man go for it! I tried to save my hair for a long time, the more I tried the worse it looked. I spent a lot of money, time, and effort. Now I'm a lot happier just shaving it off! It can always grow back if you really don't like it: I say do it, give it 30 days of regular shaving, than decide for yourself.

You are definitely receding in the front and balding at the crown but if you wanted to wait a little while longer to shave, you could. Of course, it won't be long until the only option you'll have for it to look good is shave it off completely. If it really bothers you and consumes your mind, I'd just go ahead and get it over with because you have a lot of living still to do.
