Title: Baldness against dandruff
Post by: jokkemokke on January 18, 2015, 06:01:01 AM
Hi.

I have chronically dandruff problems and I am considering to cut of my hair to solve this problem. I have read on this forum that people have positive experience with getting rid of dandruff after going bald. However, I still have a few questions.

1: Would it be sufficient just to cut of the hair with a clipper with no protection on it or do I need to shave my head completely with a razor also?

2: How often would it be necessary to cut or shave?

3: If you are shaving your head completely, how and where do you do it? Do you use normal razor and shawing gel and do you just do it while you are under the shower or how?

I know that the situation probably vary from person to person, but what are your experience?

1. No way to know without trying it. Start with a close buzz and see if that solves your problem. If so, you can choose to either keep the buzz or to shave as you like. If it doesn't work, then try shaving.

2. When I'm shaving, I shave every other day. When I'm buzzed I do it about once a week.

3. I use a Mach 3 and shaving soap. I do it before I shower.

You need to razor shave to get rid of dandruff.  I had dandruff problems prior to shaving, and it has completely gone away with shaving.  Its the actual regular scraping of the scalp with the bald that gets rid of the dandruff.  I do not think a tight buzz would do the trick.

I never had any problem with dandruff in what hair i had, or the beard. but since doctors changed my medications, i started getting dandruff in my beard, and have found a helpful organic dandruff shampoo (Nature's Organics), I use it in my beard and not a problem since

I had chronic dandruff as well. I took my hair down to a 1/8" buzz cut but that didn't solve the problem.  That was a major factor in my decision to shave my head: no hair, no dandruff. Your experience will probably be different but I've noticed I can only go two or three days between shaves before the dandruff comes back.

I've found shaving my head has improved this too.
