Hi, I'm Mike and a have been lurking for a few weeks and If I have posted in the wrong place please move or delete it.
thought I would introduce myself. In my mid twenties I started loosing my hair, after a few years of denial, bad treatments that left blisters, chemical burns and skin rashes I gave up. On the advice of several hair stylists I purchased a set of corded clippers and I started shaving once a month with a 1/4" guard. It worked fine for many years and still does to some degree. But the full horseshoe is getting old and I am in my mid 40's. About 6 months back I picked up wet shaving and enjoy it immensely. Your board was suggested and I started reading. It looks like a really great site that I would enjoy being a part of.
I haven't shaved the melon yet but I am thinking about it.
Thanks!

Welcome to the board, Mike!
I don't think it is at all unusual for a guy to think about shaving for a while before actually doing it. I spent several months pondering before I grabbed the razor and took off the horseshoe. I never have had any regrets. After that first shave, most of us have wondered why we waited so long to do it.
If you have the "itch" to do it, the only way you ever will know if you like it will be to do it.
Glad you joined us, sir.

Hi Mike. I started like you. I buzzed my hair for years and it did work for me. I was always closely buzzed, almost completely bald. Once I became a member here, I was convinced that razor shaving my head was something I wanted to try on a regular basis. Most people didn't even notice the difference.
Needless to say, shaving my head has become something I really enjoy now. I started wet shaving last February and quickly moved from just doing my face to my head. Now it's another little obsession.
So welcome and I look forward to hearing about your first head shave. You're gonna love it!

Welcome to the forum and good luck with the deed!
-
Yep, you are on the right track.
Similar story here. Welcome. You'll get some good support from the guys here on SBG.
-
Welcome! No need to shave your head if you're not ready, but I'm sure you'll enjoy it if/once you do!
-
Welcome Mike. I've found this forum to be quite informative and funny as well. Lots of guys with lots of good advice and information. If you ever have a question or concern, THIS is the place to be. Once you decide to shave it, you'll notice how freeing it is. It's also a conversation starter (usually for women who want to touch it).
Again, welcome to the forum.

Welcome Mike. Plenty of guys here to provide encouragement and answer just about any question you can imagine.

Welcome Mike! Glad you joined! You'll find lot of good folks with great advice here. Read often and post often.
I buzzed my head for about a year before I started shaving it. I liked the look, but knew I could never wear the horseshoe, my vanity wouldn't allow me too! Hahaha! My thinness was in the crown area, kind of a friar tuck if you will. As my hair grew thinner I was very self-conscious of the top of my head, wondering if people stared and saw I was going bald. After a year of buzzing my head, I finally realized that it was time to shave it, and to the razor I went! It was a shock at first but I quickly grew to love it and can't see myself as anything but with a shaved head now.
You'll know when you're ready, and when you are, I'll bet you won't have any regrets, I know I don't.

Welcome Mike!
If you would like, post a photo or two. The guys will tell you the honest truth if they think you would look good shaved smooth.
-
Best advice you'll ever get is to do it asap...then enjoy the feeling of relief.... Then, as already mentioned, you'll wonder why you waited so long! and it soon becomes you....

Thanks guys,
Here is a pic of me.
What do you think?

Oh, ya, I just hold my finger over the hair on the side of your head. What are you waiting for. With the goatee you will look good, probably 5 to 10 years younger.
-
I agree with Mike. Sly will look great on you.
-
Welcome, Mike!
I agree with the others. You will be much happier with a smooth, sly scalp... and everybody will like the way it looks on you (including you).
-
Agreed. You are going to look great with a slick head and that goatee! Not only will you look much better and a bit younger, I predict that you are going to feel much better as well - clean and virile!
-
I vote with the panel urging you to shave it all off. You'll look much better with smooth scalp.
-
Let me add my voice to the chorus. I expect you will look much better smooth!
-
I know I still have a lot more hair with only a slight thin patch on top of my head but I know this time next year I will likely have the same hair as you but I know I fell much better with a smooth head
-
Add another vote in favor of sly....Mike, if you ever get a chance, check out the video "From Bald to BadA__ on YouTube....They key phrase is "Shave your head and grow a goatee". You're already halfway there with that awesome goatee! Now do the other half!
-
Welcome. Just started wet shaving with a DE yesterday and love it so far.
-
I'm in agreement with everyone else, go for it! There's no time like the present. You already have the goatee so if you want to change it up a little, grow the beard. Either way, you're gonna look just fine and the sense of relief you'll get from not having to worry anymore will make you wonder why you didn't do it sooner.
