Last Sunday (9 November), had my very first tattoo. I chose a shinkansen design. Shinkansen is the name which the Japanese use for their high speed trains, which are sometimes better known as the "bullet train". I've had a life long interest in railways - and in particular the shinkansen. I've travelled on the shinkansen train on many occasions and always enjoyed the ride. Indeed my YouTube channel is "shinkansen1966" ... Google it !
The whole tattoo process took just over an hour. The actually inking took about 50 minutes. It was a lot less painful than I thought. Indeed most of the time, little more than a vibration. Now there's 7-10 days of healing with cream to be appplied several times per day.
I'm really pleased with it. So now I want to get another !

I looked at the photo before reading the blurb... and thought.....that's a bullet train!
-
Very nice. Leg or arm. You're clearly hooked now.
-
Very distinctive. I knew it immediately also.
-
Thank you ! I really like it. More are sure to follow...

Cool tattoo!

Cool tattoo!
Thank you. So far, healing is fine. Waiting for the itching to start !!!
-
Nappy rash cream is great for soothing the itching

Using nappy rash cream already !! So far, so good.

Nice work! But be careful, tattoos are addictive! "One more" will never be enough!
-
Already got that "one is never enough" feeling. Planning the 2nd and 3rd ones now ...
-
I agree with Hingatao. Someone once told me that tattoos are addictive so beware.

Comment duly noted. And then ignored !!!!

Hello Goatee:

Can you post photos for us?

Here's my first ink !

Mr. Jules....YOLO!
Yep, Sir Harry. You only live once. Which is I now wear a septum piece now, hanging from the nose to compliment the handlebar moustache. When in the office, I flip this horseshoe into nose, so nobody can see. Really like it.
(apologies everyone, I still can't get the hang off profile and landscape when adding pictures)

Lookin' good ... though my bias may be showing.

It's understandable. In the new year, will think about a stretch or two.
-
Looks good! One is definitely never enough. I started with one and now have them on my arms and on my chest and planning for more!
Can I ask what the catalyst was that made you get it? Always wanted one, live changing event, etc?
I know for me, I had always wanted one but the ex-wife wasn't having it. So when we separated at 25, I said, "F" it! I'm getting a tattoo. So it was basically a turning point in my life, a restart to do the things that make me happy. And as I mentioned I've continued to get more and now have my chest tattooed as well.
-
I think it is just a case of as you get older you have the courage to do what you want to do and worry less about what others might think

Until recently, I thought that tattoos were hideous. Thought they were vulgar and hated the thought of doing something as permanent as that.
Then a few friends had them and they were happy with the results. Knowing my life long interest in trains and Japan, another friend came up with an idea of a tattoo for me. It's a great design, and then I found myself bitten.
I guess the other thing is a general change in my appearance. First the shaved head, then the beard, the some piercings (5 now), then a handlebar moustache and finally the tattoo.
Mid life crisis ? Very probably. Something new and exciting ? Certainly !

Wow Mr. Jules; you are starting to scare us. Next you'll be telling us that you are going to try other forms of body mod's as well! Is this what comes of shaving your head? Is shaving a "gateway" activity? Ha Ha!
-
"gateway" activity? Ha Ha!
Absolutely !
Shaving your head is the gateway.
Once you shave your head and give yourself a completely new "you", anything is possible.
-
I can't get past the shaved head stage!
-
me either :-[

You only live once! Sometimes the biggest risk gets the biggest reward. Take shaving out heads for example, for many that's a big risk. We question how it's gonna look, will I have the right head for it, what will by friends say, etc. But we take the plunge, and all is well and we are glad that we did.
Take the risk, do what makes you happy and I'm sure you won't regret it!
