I''ve been using disposables and Barbasol, and aside from nicking my ear one time, I really haven't had a problem.
-
Everyone has their own method which they feel comfortable with. There is no wrong or right method or tools to use. If the Barbasol and disposables work for you, great. YMMV.
-
I learned to shave my beard with the Bic disposable. I also learned quickly how to apply a styptic pencil. If you can use those blades on your head, I salute you.
As Harry stated, each guy eventually figures out the routine and equipment that works best for him.

I think, and it's just my opinion, that a lot of guys start with a fairly elaborate set of products and tools as they experiment to find what works best for them. I certainly did, and I enjoyed the ritual of the daily morning shave to start the day right.
After a couple of years I still enjoy the ritual (it's definitely "all about me" time) but the arsenal of implements and the array of potions has diminished to the bare minimum. What it takes to get the job done. Once that was established I bought warehouse-sized quantities and shouldn't have to buy another shampoo, blade or cream for several years. :-)
In other words ... everyone finds what works for them, and likely no two will be the same.

Not bashing others....I was just curious
-
I guess I don't see it as a pleasurable ritual, more of a pain in the ass lol
-
No bashing perceived, sir.
My morning routine has simplified down to sticking my head under the hot water in the shower, a few drops of Shave Secret rubbed on the dome, a lather made in my hands from a bar soap like Dial, then the shave itself with the Fusion Proglide. All done in the shower in less than five minutes. After that, a splash with Old Spice and it's finished.
So, no. Not all of us have a complex routine with a lot of equipment or products.
-
I started out with a fairly elaborate routine, but now I am down to applying shaving cream with a brush and scrapping it off. Sometimes I'll exfoliate before or after if I am doing a second pass for a really smooth finish.
To each their own. As long as you enjoy the results, how you get there shouldn't matter too much.

Hello NJBill:
I agree with you. While I can't tolerate a disposable, I am not one to make a ritual out of shaving. I just use shave oil, a little cream lather with a brush, and a fusion. I still do not like shaving my own head. To me, it is a pain in the butt and I would much rather let my barber do it. And, since I am the world's worst "morning person", I shave at night in conjunction with my bedtime shower.
-
Oh, yeah, I'm all about the ritual. I really look forward to my morning routine, but then I'm retired and have lot of time. DE razor, soap, brush, lotion. Sometimes exfoliate with apricot scrub. I take my time, and being bbc, I have alot to shave. Still trying to catch as much sun as I can here in Minnesota so I can keep the golden tan on the dome.
-
I really do enjoy the ritual, but I don't have time in the morning. So I only shave my head two to three times a week and often at night. When I have time, I put on my music, pour a drink or coffee if it's in the a.m. on a weekend, take out my DE and all my stuff, take my time and enjoy.
-
Thanks for the idea Mike. I always have my coffee with me, but I think I will crank up the Beach Boys tomorrow!
-
I shave every morning in the shower, it's the only way I get a close shave, plus it wakes me up.... though I have stubble again by lunchtime.... i had an early start the other day, so shaved with my evening shower and was still super smooth when I woke up.... why don't I stay that smooth during the day?! I use mach 3 during the week, and my de on the weekends.... though I don't shave on a Sunday unless I'm going "out out"
-
I'm not talking about a fixed angle bic I get these three blade pivoting razors at Wal-Mart for l ion me five bucks for six or seven razors
-
Was using a DE but prefer my Mach 3 at the moment. Usually takes me 30 mins to shave head and face! 4 passes on head! lol
-
Nothing too complex here. Shave in the shower in the mornings using Aveeno Shave Gel and Shave Secret Shaving Oil, blade of choice is a Fusion ProGlide. Afterwards I use Aveeno Aftershave Lotion on the head and Bump Patrol on the neck to keep the razor bumps at bay.
-
I shave in the shower every morning first using baby oil with aloe vera and vitamin E as a pre-shave oil. I then lather up with Edge Sensitive Skin Shave Gel and shave with a Mach 3. After that I'll rinse with cold water or rub an ice cube on my head. I then splash on some Sea Breeze for Sen. Skin. After a few mins have passed, I'll put on some aloe vera gel to give the head a good shine.

Everybody's time is different in the morning if you have wake early and get yourself ready for work, in the morning (depending on what time you have to be at work) then disposable is the way to go no setting up this or that or whipping up a lather. I like that I can apply my shave gel from the can, bottle or tube grab my disposable razor and start shaving right away instead of shaving the other way which takes up time. I can shave in 5 min or less maybe 10 min or less, who knows not everybody has 20-30 to spear in the morning for a shave alone, by then you're probably behind on what ever else you need to do in the morning.
