Title: Perplexing shave
Post by: Mike E. P. on July 22, 2014, 10:17:44 AM
I have recently been thinking that I have mastered wet shaving. My last few shaves have been so smooth and so satisfying. I thought I had my angles down pat and had a great routine.

Today was possibly the worst shave I've had since I began in February. I virtually never cut myself and today I am a bloody mess. I even cut my finger putting a new blade in!

Razor:  Pearl SBF 11 GB
Blade:  Bluebird Hi stainless
Brush:  GBS pure badger
Cream:  Headslick
Finish:  witch hazel rub

The Pearl is on the new side; there is more blade exposed than my EJ 89. However, I have had no problem with it before. In fact, my last shave with it was excellent. It was my third head/ face shave with a Suoer Max Super Platinum Tiger.

This was my first time using a Bluebird. It was a single blade from a sample pack I got from Amazon. Could this have just been a bum blade? There was a bit of a drag even though I had a nice lather going. Or maybe it was just me and a bad shaving day.

This was a scary shave. Just kept cutting myself. Wth?

I've only used them in a Feather Popular, which is a very mild razor, but the Bluebirds in that Razor have been one of my favorite blades so far.

Hi Mel,

I have been shaving with a Gillette black tip I picked up in an antique store and have been getting excellent results. I love the size of this razor and the way it feels in my hand. I don't know if that one shave was a fluke and just bad technique on my part that day or if it was the razor and blade combo. I haven't shaved with it again. I'll be trying again probably tomorrow. We'll see!

Ouch. Sorry that shave was so rough, Mike.

So you now own a steptic pencil as well?
