There seems to be a decided trend on this board lately toward the "Mr. Clean" look. I'm not sure if it's just because it's summertime, or because people are just in the mood for something new, or if the good ol' goatee has had its heyday. Seems like the thing to do used to be to shave your head and grow a goatee. Now many seem to be ditching the goat. Just wondering what everyone's current preferences are -- will we be seeing some more Mr. Cleans in the near future?
-
yeah.... razorx... i noticed that 2. i c we have a new look 4 johnmont & timmj who both r rocking the mr. clean look. personally.... i don't go with the trends. i go with my own decisions & experimentations. however.... i've noticed more people ditching the goat & going with the mr. clean.
as 4 me... i'm keeping my goat. maybe... i'll try the mr. clean look but 4 now i'm rocking the goat. either way goat, beard, or no goat.... i'm keeping my dome slick & sly. O0

Believe me RazorX,I've tried growing a goat many times but it looks quite dirty, like it doesnt belong. I may take your advice and give it 30days trial period to see how it looks.
I dont mind either look but on most sly guys, the goat and slick dome look goes alright but on some it looks just wrong.

I don't think there's any one-size-fits-all answer. Some people look better with facial hair and some don't.
I know what you mean about it looking dirty. I always felt the same way - especially with my sandy/red colored hair. But if you can persevere through that scruffy stage, it usually looks pretty good when it's fully grown in. I think the only time it doesn't work is for guys who just can't grow a thick enough beard.

That would be me. I've tried many times and just no luck. I think it has something to do with the hair loss that I was experiencing. Back in my 20's, I had the full beard for over a year. Couldn't do it now.
-
Yes the Mr Clean look isnt for everyone. But I have noticed the same. I am seeing more and more shaved headed guys in my town and most of them when i knew them from before when htey had hair also had the stash, goatee and or beard. Now they are all clean shavin. To me I dont think it is a summer time thing...but it is cooler on teh face and all...but I will have to admit...adn you all say the same..I look better Mr Clean..I feel better and much easier to take care of.
-
Sometimes I've gone with a little chin beard aka Capt.Beefheart style but would usually shave it off after a few days - one reason ... i think it makes my face & head look longer ... second reason .... though when I had hair it was always mousy colour whenever I grew my beard I found it had a lot of ginger in it (not that there's anything wrong with that) now though if & when I try to grow it .... the ginger hairs (& increasingly all the others too) are turning grey/white. (which actually I quite like occasionally ... gives y' a wise, man-o-the-world kind of look!) ;D
PS : I think you look fine without the beard, RazorX ... not sure about your choice of wallpaper though! :D
-
I shave it off every once in a while just for a change but I always let it grow right back because, for me, personally I like facial hair better. On me anyways. I just don't think I look right with the "mr. clean" look. One other big factor for me is I sort of have the double chin, or no chin, thing going on when I shave clean. Facial hair seems to shape my face up and appears to take a few pounds off of me. I personally have always liked the "chin strap beard" look but it takes more maintenance time. Because you have to shape it up and stuff like that. I also go with the full beard look from time to time but then that gets a little itchy. It just depends on my mood. I've been going with the goatee mostly since going sly just because it allows me to keep some facial hair but is easy maintenance also.
-
I think it's appealing, because when the headshaving movement first started it was like the "uniform" for you to get away with being totally bald...bald with full goatee...then the hipsters ditched the stache and left the bottom goat, then Mr. cleaned i guess is the next progression...
For me I was just happy that this time around "clean" I actually like it and don't find myself TOO hideous!
I wont ever rule out a goat though...i could be a flipper for sure...but i like that I feel like i can do that now! O0

Hey Andre,
Dude, you just don't look like yourself w/o that trademark goat!
That's just my opinion. And why r u dissin the coasters on the other board. Thought you would add something there. LLmao!

Hey Ben, i can agree with you on the whole "trademark" thing, just like I said, I dig that i think I can get a way with it clean for now...one day i might wake up and hate it, but i do dig goats....
No dis on the coasters...are you talkin' bout the Jersey Girls thread? if anything it's more fascination...hey MTV had a special on it...i don't think i'm the only one that shares that view obviously...
I dig lots of folks on the other board too, always have!
Later my bald bro!

My fiance' loves my sly look, but everytime i let some hair grow on my chin she gives me a hard time, she says I'm trying to look like a biker???? :/O
maybe she'll like it if in our wedding photo i rock the horseshoe...
-
I got to have the goatee. I have had a beard, goatee or something since I was about 20. I think I went maybe 6 months tops without one. Of course, that was before the day of sly.

If I can weigh in RazorX ; I agree with you about the goatee in your case; with both pics together; it's clear that the goatee gives you a certain extra something. More edgy looking; tougher; whatever ( and with Shyslyguy; I hope you've gotten rid of that wallpaper! )

I'd say that there are about just as many Mr. Cleans on SBG's as there are ones with goatees or facial hair.

It is all a matter of personal opinion. I prefer the Mr. clean look, but would never do the eyebrows!

Dude are you kidding we are BOTH all about the bald head and HUGE EYEBROWS...looks like I'm in good company with that look though! O0
Shaving the face along with the head is "Mr. Clean" enough...

Agree. The brows keep the face anchored. Without em I think a person looks a little washed out and loses expression.
Hey, whatever works!!
-
Eyebrows are staying for me too. After all; the original Mr.Clean has white eyebrows, so I'm in good company (he also has an earring -- I'll pass on that)

I'm with ya. I don't know if I told you, but the clean look suits you. Lookin good my bald brotha!!

Speaking of earrings, I have stretched earlobes which i used to have 1inch spacers but have sized back to 1/2".
I'm thinking stretching them again to 1inch.
-
Hey John..whats wrong with earrings? I have one. Just one and no more ...a friend tried piercing my nipple back in highschool....but i couldnt endure the pain so i backed out.
-
Earrings look cool on some guys; just not for me ... too 'flamboyant, maybe .
John
-
I find it odd that a man with an earring in both or even ear looks "strange" or "odd". Male ear piercing is as old as headshaving, both of which are mentioned in the Old Testament of the Bible.
I could never just have 1 ear pierced, I need symmetry. I have had both my ears pierced since the age of 16.started stretching about age 19.
-
I'm going to keep my beard unless I get a job where they make me shave.
-
I usually keep a stubbly face to a moustach-less light beard, but shaved it ala Mr Clean and it felt weird.
Granted, I don't have a lot of facial hair to begin with, but clean shaven makes me look like Rosie O'Donnell....
-
talking about earrings & male ear-piercing... do any of you remember back in the 1970's ... it was said that if you had your left ear-pierced you were straight, if you had the right ear done it was supposedly a sign that you were gay. Well a friend & myself were about 14 when we got ours done & we were the first boys in our school to get it done but I got it done on the wrong side (ie; the right ear) Typical! - Got teased about it a bit i think so anyway, being a bit self-conscious about it, I let it close up & got it done on the other side instead. A few years later a few guys started getting both ears done & it didn't take long for me to get the other side done too - I ended up getting 5 in all - 3 on one side & two on the other but I think only two are still "open" now. Funny thing though, I ended up in a gay relationship anyway so really ... I needn't have worried but you know how it is when you're 14!
Anyway Cy .... you look fine clean shaven (though I must admit I am not sure what Rosie O'Donell looks like! >:D )
-
Shy, we must be fairly close in age because I remember it well.
My friends and I were going to be getting our ears pierced, and it was all exciting and the cool thing to do, but you had to remember " make sure you get it in your left ear, the right ear means you are gay". Jeez, what a bunch o' crap this turned out to be.
But , like you said it's the way you are when your 14 and naive.
Back then you really stood out if you had an ear pierced, now it seems there's nothing that stands out too much, even punk has gone mainstream.
I was a big heavy metaler in the 80's and let me tell you, I stood out, lol.
I will tell you all about it in another post.

Going to give the Mr. Clean a go. Lately the goat has been irritating me and it is now grayer than ever. I think it's time.
-
I had to explore it deeper to see if RazorX really bears a striking resemblance to Mr Clean.

Dude, this is freaking me out. O0 The eyebrows need work though.
-
I prefer the goatee myself, once in a while ill go with the Mr. Clean look like when i cut of part of the goatee when i trim it like two weeks ago, but now iam growing in the facial hair.

fcb you'll have to post up a new pic then ... so we can see you with the goatee.

hey Joe,
Glad someone else here is old enuff to remember it too O0 Got any pics of you from your heavy metal days? Would love to see a then & now! (not that I am hinting for you to get a pic up or anything >:D) I guess after a short stint as a punk in 78' I was more of a soul boy by the '80's but liked a bit of metal now & again (still do in fact) - anyway glad u could back me up on the earring thing & I wasn't just imagining it! O0

Go for it Joe .... join the trend ... then post up that pic! :popo

Shy, I am going to get some pics up when I can figure out the best way to do it. I do not have my old metal days pics on the computer. Don't know how I would get them on.
I am hoping to get some before and afters up too so I can get some input.
