Just want to say first of all that this is a pretty cool forum and am thankful for it O0
I'm 24 years old and started loosing my hair a couple years back, been shaving my head with electric clippers for a year or so, but I'm just now starting to shave with a real razor this past month. My questions are.... I have sensitive skin especially around the back of my neck area so, What's the best razors to use and products for sensitive skin and are there any creams for redness that are good? thanks for your help and SO FAR I LOVE BEING SLY, especially because I live in FLA and it is summer time and hot as S*** lol... thanks again

Well I use the Gillette fusion for my head and an DE for my face. This seems to work great for me.

Welcome, Frank!
Two of the things that I do to prevent bumps, especially on the neck area, is to 1. Rub my head with an ice cube immediately after shaving and before applying aftershave. 2. When I have breakouts, I get a blue bottle of Bump Patrol and rub it over the areas and they usually heal within three days. Good luck and welcome to the sly club!

Yes the bump patrol works very well.

I'm 22, and I had also been buzzing my head for a while before going sly. After the first couple of times I shaved I got some noticeable red bumps right at the bottom of my head/neck area. I started using the Gillette Fusion Proglide (a great sensitive razor to use), combined with a discount aftershave, and the bumps pretty much went away after a few days. For me I think my head just needed to get used to daily shaves. Now when I lather up I get a little redness for a half hour or so afterward, but it soon goes back to normal.

Congrats on going sly Frank! It's a great feeling indeed. I also have sensitive skin and have to be careful what products I use. As far as shaving gel goes, Edge for Sensitive Skin is pretty good, which is what I use. I tried Gillette Fusion Proglide Clear Gel but after a week, I started getting razor burn. Ever since I've gone back to Edge, it's gone away. I've also heard Nivea Sensitive Skin Gel is good. Welcome to the forum!

Welcome Frank.

Welcome. DE shaving would be worth trying. Just one blade instead of multiple blades being dragged over your skin! Bump Patrol / Alum block is good too.

After a lot of struggling with bumps back there, I finally figured out three crucial things (that work for me, anyway):
1. I shave in several directions everywhere, but on the back of my head, from the tops of my ears down, I shave downward only.
2. Making sure I get the aftershave all the way down past my hairline in back.
3. On days when I do not shave, I scrub my scalp with a veggie-brush to remove the dead skin and pull the hairs up so they don't grow in. And a full head of aftershave after that, too, just like a shaving day!
The veggie-brush: http://www.oxo.com/p-492-flexible-vegetable-brush.aspx
Otherwise I use lower-end Bic disposables (3 blades with conditioning strips) and Neutrogena shave cream, nothing notable in those departments.

Welcome Frank :)
I remember my first time shaving my head with a razor and I did have razor burn and razor bumps for the first 4-6 weeks. I would sometimes miss spots on the back of my neck to avoid getting further razor burns. My suggestion to you would be to rub some baby oil on before and after you shave. This will help with irritation a bunch.
Now that I think of it I used to shave with the grain when I started out, and now I shave against it all around. I don't know if this will make a difference or not, but I remember at first it did feel a little rough on the neck region, but you will get used to it and razor burn will be very tough to get over time once you know your limits.
Hope this helps,
