Im early 50s and have had some thinning in the crown and some receding hairline over the years, but nothing earth shattering.....but I decided a couple of months ago to take all the way down to a close shave when the weather warmed up.....1st time ever, and of course you wonder if your head has a good shape etc.....turns out I have a pretty nice shape....
Ive had several acquaintances(who were either thinning or shave by choice) tell me that once you go clean for a few months you will never want hair again....and I am liking the change and have gotten good feedback from most everyone....my wife is ok with it, but she says she still likes me with hair better....
I asked my 10 yo son if he remembers what I look like with hair(after only a few weeks shaved) and he said "not really, can you show me a picture?"
I have not been all stressed out about the gradual loss of hair like many I have read here, but I didn't want to wait another ten years and be nursing the Fryar Tuck...hehe....
but one thing that I have noticed this has prompted me to get in really good shape(even tho I was not overweight/flabby)
Im sure there is a technical/psychological term for it.... but Ill just call it "ego"....
is this a common theme with the newly shaved? because this is a pretty good side effect for me......
I may grow it back out for the winter for my snowboarding trip, just to give a little more insulation, but I love the feel in the summer with the top off and the wind blowing thru my mythical hair.......

Hi Trip, nice to see you here. Yes, my old GF first liked it, then didn,t, but she said "do what makes you happy". New GF likes it, thinks it is sexy. :-)
Very true about wanting to keep shaving after a few months. I'm coming up on 1 year in a few weeks, and have tried to grow hair back(I'm BBC), but only get 2 or 3 weeks into it, and shave it all again.
Yes, I have been slowly losing weight, being in shape with a shaved bald head looks awesome!

Glad you joined us, Trip.
I waited until I was fifty-one before I went smooth. Yes, shaving can be addictive - and I also was surprised at how quickly and easily everyone accepted how I looked.
Welcome.

Hi Trip,
Welcome to the club. Yeah, in the midst of my balding, I decided to get into better shape. I figured I couldn't control my hair loss, but I could control being overweight and in poor health.

Welcome to the club, trip. I always had the attitude that I'd rather havea full head of grey hair than no hair at all. That changed, though, when I turned 50 and decided I needed to shake things up a bit and went bbc. I'm coming up on two years and I haven't looked back.

Welcome, Trip! Enjoy and participate often!

Hi Trip and I echo everyone else by saying welcome! You speak of Friar Tuck. I had that going on before I shaved it all off a month and a half ago. As you can imagine, I didn't want to look like that at 28. Many, including ones on this forum, said I did the right thing after I showed them the extensiveness of my balding. Enjoy the sly life and feel free to ask any questions!

Congratulations, Trip. Post a photo when you can. I think that you'll like being totally bald.

Good comments in this thread.
Welcome, Trip.
Never too late to start shaving your head.
I'm loosing weight, too. Generally not eating processed foods.
Good for self image and confidence. Looks smart. My sister-in-law says of me, "You look like a professor".
It's just good all around. Love the feel of the sun and the rain on my bare head.
Thanks for joining the forum. Look forward to seeing your picture. As some of the guys say, If there is no picture, it did not happen.

Let me add my welcome. Thanks for joining us.

Welcome to the brotherhood!

Welcome. Good to have you.
I'll ditto some of the comments that it is hard to go back once you're used to it and also that I tend to notice a greater appreciation for being more fit with the shaved head.
