Title: The "second day shave"!
Post by: geddyflea on May 04, 2014, 05:51:25 PM
OK, I'm an everyday headshaver.  I like the look and ritual, and like every day smooth for work.   But once a month, usually Saturday, I skip the shave due to kids activities, trying to get to the gym, yard work, etc. but then I hit the headshave again on Sunday before church.  I must say - my head seems smoother than if I'd shaved the day before!    The only thing I can account for is that the blade has more to work work with and probably pulls from the scalp as much as it shaves.

Anyway, just a musing in the spirit of the message boards here.   Fun group of guys - thanks for all the advice!

Completely agree on all points. Prefer to keep the dome smooth 24/7, but sometimes get a little lazy and skip a day. The nice thing is, the first shave after skipping a day always results in a smoother shave!

Yes, I think it's because there's more for the razor to grab onto.

I shave usually every second day and I agree it seems to end up smoother than shaving every day.

I've notice the same thing if a skip a day or two, that I end up smoother.  I agree that it must be that the multi-blade razor is pulling the hair more for the next blade to get it closer.  Any DE or SE shavers ever notice this?

I shave every day
Very rare I miss a day.

Agree on all counts. Definitely smoother after skipping a day and as others have said, I always attributed it to the fact that the razor gets a better "grip" on longer hair. But when I'm BBC, I have a hard time skipping a day. It's an odd trade-off: you have to endure an extra day of stubble in order to have an extra-smooth day...

If I skip a day, it's because I'm sick, or I'm meeting with the guys for breakfast extra early, or sometimes a Saturday. On the second day, I shave both WTG and AGT. Yes, it seems smoother last the smooth lasts longer into the day.

Today is a skip day.  So tomorrow should be a super smooth day.

Absolutely agree. Whether I shave daily or every other day, I end up with sandpaper every other day. I should learn to save myself the effort of shaving daily.

I never thought I could shave every day due to sensitive skin but as soon as I got used to shaving in the shower, I've not skipped a day since. That was right at the very beginning of my initial 30 day trial.  Now I just can't skip a day because I know I won't feel right. I like to have a freshly clean shaved head to start off my day but I can clearly see what you all are saying.

I do it at random.....Because of SD, I very rarely go past the third day. But DE shaving makes my head so smooth, I can skip days and get away with it.
