Thought i would start a new thread as i have decided to go the DE route!
Now, people mention the Microtouch One but i cant get that here in the UK.
I remember my dad used to shave with a DE. Dont know which one and God bless him but he is not around now to ask :(
Obviously i want to get one that will last a long time! Not sure on blades either.
Let me know what you recommend and why. I currently use a Fusion Proglide and a Braun 340. Even the Fusion can leave the head not as smooth as i would like!
Time to move over to DE! O0

I've heard that the microTouch One is a clone of the Weishi 9306-f.
-
As a beginner myself, I can recommend the Micro Touch One razor as a good beginner razor :)
-
He can't get that in the UK yet bro.

I just started using a safety razor a few months ago. After reading around here, I bought the EJ 89 from Amazon. I have nothing to compare it to but I have been loving shaving with it. I bought a sample pack of razors also from Amazon and a very generous friend sent me a large variety of razors to try. So far, I like the Feathers best. I was really afraid to try them because everyone said how sharp they are. I was afraid I would slice myself up. But I have always been pretty good with shaving in general and rarely cut myself.
So while I have no others to compare it to, I like the EJ and it looks beattiful, gleaming in its stand on my counter!

I would go with the Edwin Jagger 89L (The "L" stands for lined chrome). It is made in your beautiful country England. The EJ89L is a beautiful chrome razor that any newbie or veteran shaver will be proud of. It is a classic. That was my very 1st modern day DE razor that I started out with. Here is a link to one in England at a great price. The EJ89L reviews are very positive.

Cheers.
What blade should i get?

Guys, theres this one too:

Which one to go for?
-
Personally I'd recommend one that is twist to open (aka butterfly doors), as they are easier to load and clean. Parker makes a few TTO models.
-
Guys, just ordered this lot:
Edwin Jagger Double Edge Razor DE89L (Plus 5 Derby DE Blades)
Feather Hi-Stainless Double Edged Razor Blades x 10 plus 10 free
Alum Block
Nervous now but cant wait to give it a go. Looking at videos on youtube etc for advice now and on this fine website

I have read that the Feather blades are scary but where i bought the gear they didnt have a lot of choice in blades and a lot where out of stock too. I will try to take it easy and have a go on my face first!
-
I'll put my two cents in. For shaving my face I use my Merkur future. Don't know how it will perform on the head but I feel it is the best DE razor that I have used.

I shaved yesterday for the first time with a DE razor. Thanks to Warhawk for sending me an assortment of blades to try. It was definitely the smoothest shave I've had. I used the Astra blades.
-
Feather blades are nice but they aren't as aggressive as everyone says they are.
-
Great choice and definitely keep us posted. Google. . . "mantic59". He has some excellent videos on DE shaving. He is a great choice. Also... Google: "Geofatboy". He is another excellent source.

The Astra blades were out of stock where i ordered my gear and i was going to get some of those too.

Guys, what shaving soap would you recommend? I currently use Wilkinsonsword. A good quality one would be ace. Maybe even for sensitive skin? Cheers
-
I use Taylor of OldBond Street sensitive, it's pretty great. I highly recommend it.

Is this the one?
I ordered it! O0

Yes sir. I love that stuff!
-
I'd love to use a DE but the thought of my slicing myself scares me
-
Respect the razor and take it slow, no worries. My advice, perfect your craft on your face before moving to the dome.
-
I don't shave my face!
-
I am dreading it to but i like the reviews on how good a shave you get with one plus the saving on blades! I am sure that one blade is far superior to 5 too!
-
I don't shave my face!
Okay so shave your legs :*))
Follow the rules and you're golden, nothing to fear.
What are the rules?
1) don't apply pressure.
2) use the correct angle i.e. slightly tilted to about 30-45 degrees.
3) apply lather before each pass.

Nothing to be scared off, sir. When I 1st tried DE shaving on April 2012, I took the plunge and shaved both face and dome. It took me about a week to get comfortable shaving face and about a month to get comfortable shaving dome.
Keep us posted,

I actually just jumped right into shaving the dome with a DE, as I don't shave my face (just the neck below my beard). So far so good. Had a few nicks and one nice cut during the learning curve but overall it was a quick learn :)

I get all my EJ stuff from The English Shaving Company, they are great with service and deliveries
I got an EJ DE89B (barley grip handle) which I love and I started using feather blades straight away without any issues
Cella shaving soap is nice!
-
Guys, when you do cut yourself, do you miss out a couple of days or continue shaving the same spot?
-
If I nick myself I use a RazoRock Alum block. I'd say just shave around that spot until it's fully healed.
