Title: Anyone shave twice a day?
Post by: DanJMag on April 25, 2014, 11:51:39 PM
So I enjoy shaving the dome so much, and I hate when I give it a rub at the end of the work day and get that scratchy sensation of stubble, so I am tempted to shave it again. Anyone here shave more than once a day? I don't have to, certainly, but it almost seems like to be truly vigilant I ought to give it a once over later in the day. I have also noticed that when I use the HeadBlade HeadLube products, they really seem to make apparent the little amount of stubble I may have (anyone else notice this?) which makes me want to shave again even more. I haven't adopted a daily multi-shave regimen yet, but I am considering it. What's your opinion?

If I'm going somewhere special, I may shave a second time...I usually shave with a DE, but most of the time when I shave for the second time in the same day, I'll use the ATX for a "touch-up"...But DE razors when I use them right usually leave me stubble free for about 18 hours on average.

It is not uncommon for me to shave twice in one day.

The sand paper texture returns by around 3:00 each day, so I many times do a once over when I get home from work.

I did try it for a few days in a row once and ended up with razor burn, so now I only shave a second time for "special" events.

If I have a date - or if I'm going out trying to meet new women, I always do a second shave. I look and feel my best when it's as smooth as possible.

Even though a few hours after shaving the stubble starts to return i only shave once a day. I feel that once is enough for your skin to recover from.

Hi Dan:  For me it is impossible to shave twice a day because I get so super, slippery smooth using my trusty DE and SE razors.  Shaving the traditional way is so much fun!!!

Warhawk, would you say that a DE gives you a better / longer shave than a multiple blade shaver?

ABSOLUTELY, sir!!!  When I started head shaving back in April 2007, I used several cartridges and disposables razors:  Fusion, Mach3, M5, Hydro5, HB, Gillette Extremes, Bics, and numerous others... eventually the Fusion became my go to razor.  I was a big fan of the Fusion.

However, on April 2012, I decided to go with a DE exclusively.  I immediately started on my face and dome.  It took about a week to get comfortable face shaving & about a month to get comfortable head shaving.  I have not looked back since.  I sold off all my Gillette Fusion cartridges and never looked back.

Shaving with a DE or SE razor (for me) is the best, most challenging, most manly, and most fun ever.  I get the smoooooooooooooooooooooothest shaves that no cartridge razor or disposable can rival.

The only thing that you need is patience and persistence and the DE way of shaving absolutely blows off the cartridge razors any day of the week.  Plus... those cartridges such as the Fusion is so expensive.  You can buy a 100 pack of Astra SP blades for under $12.00 on Amazon.  Try buying 100 Fusion cartridges.

If you ever decide to go the DE way, I can help you out.  Ask me any question by PM or just post up in the SAFETY RAZOR SECTION OF THE FORUM.  Enjoy your shaves.  I know I am.

Warhawk, you have really inspired me. I was on the fence and you have pushed me over the edge. I have ordered a DE starter kit with Merkur 34C, badger brush, mug, soap, and stand. According to UPS I should have it on Monday. I can't wait. I have been watching some instructional vids on YouTube. I intend to start with the face and work my way up to the dome. I'll start with shaving in the evenings so as not to be rushed or tiredly careless. Honestly, I can't wait to break my dependence on costly cartridges, and start shaving the way a man really ought to. It's only been about 3 weeks since I went from a regular head clipper to a daily dome shaver, but it really has transformed me, in a way. It would be hard to describe to someone who has yet to take the plunge. It really is more about confidence and adopting a way of life and attitude, than it is about simply getting rid of the hair on your head. I anxiously await my daily shave in the morning. Before, I could not stop hitting the snooze button. Now I am diligent about getting up right away to get the ritual started. So, thanks to all the posters, and those who've replied to my threads. It feels really good to be part of such a positive community of like-minded (and naked-headed) individuals. Peace.

I like the sand paper, so I shave about once a week when going for the bald look

I love my Edwin Jagger DE89 with Barley grip handle :)

IMO the Edwin Jagger DE89 clearly has a far better build quality and far better chrome than the Merkur 34C (which I also own)

There is just no comparison, which is why I am about to sell my Merkur
Perhaps I got one from a bad batch because it's cheap and nasty looking in every aspect from build to chrome finish

Your theory about a bad batch of Merkurs must be correct, I've had mine for....ten years as well as their blades and wouldn't trade it, sell it or buy a new one. Good luck on your newby.

By the Way, great Sleeve. Local work? I'm going to be in Brisbane this fall/spring.

I need all members in my house..... Now :)

If you saw the two shavers side by side you would see what I mean. Even my 15 year old niece (who knows nothing about shaving) reached for the DE89 saying it looked nice when I showed her both

Got that sleeve done in Melb at Tama Tattoos
Glad you like it, thanks :)

I have to shave twice a day because I dislike the five o'clock head shadow.  I will skip the second if I am staying home for the evening, but almost always on weekends.  I have just made it my routine.  It does take time because I have to shave for about 15 minutes each session.
