About the Student Suspended for Shaving Her Head to Support Her Friend With Cancer
Yes, she can return. But one school board member still disagrees ... way the other kids do, the kids who aren't sick and don't have cancer. I would guess that more than anything the people who love Delaney wish she hadn't lost her hair because they ...

.....or how about the kids who are just sick and tired of the publicity? The kids who haven't had their conscience-ness raised by meddling adults and while they may understand the act, are now lost in the miasma of adult speak or, to put it another way, adult speak out both sides of their mouths. In all this is lost the unfortunate story of a little girl who became ill and is gaining nothing, save embarrassment (remember when you were that age? How easily embarrassed you were?) And what's next in this weary saga of follicle redemption? Photos of the well child keeping her head peeled until her friend can grow hers back? And, how could I forget this, the follow up that shows both little girls with newly sprouted hair, then, in a year or so, them in their adorable Pixie cuts that weren't cuts at all.
These children have been sacrificed to the media for no purpose other than to raise a furor in lieu of a good deed. It's impossible to believe that a little girl could shave her head so completely without help; I say that based on having shaved my own head for years and, particularly in the back, have often wished I had someone to clean up the bits and swatches that I missed.

I have to agree with much of what you said. This girl goes to a private school with a dress code. Her parents have to have known that the school would have a problem with this. I suppose the girl was trying to do something nice for her friend but if she were my daughter I don't think I would have allowed it because she is too young to have thought through all the ramifications and make an informed decision.
I also wonder sometimes about adults who do this to support friends with cancer. If you're going to do it properly, then you really need to keep your head shaved until the other person's hair has grown back. I wonder how many people are willing to stay bald that long. It can be years if the patient needs long-term treatments.
