Title: NOBODY I know IRL like me sly
Post by: underpressure on March 22, 2014, 02:31:34 PM
Hey all! I'm actually back after a year or so of absence...so long in fact I forgot my username and had to re-register! I'm Ed, and I am still having an issue I probably brought up last time...

I only shave my head occasionally, in spite of my growing mpb, because nobody I know in real life likes it. All my friends think it looks funny, and heap praise on me when I grow it out. I have been #00 clipper shaving for two weeks now, and I'm just looking for a little encouragement to keep it going...I'll post a pic today once I clean up and shower so you all can see what you think.

How do you all think I look? Be honest, should I push thru the pressure and be sly?

Ed

That's a toughie, I know it's easier said than done, but if you like it, keep it. Maybe if you keep it shaved instead of continually growing out your friends will be used to it. Maybe its the drastic change of having you shave a full head of hair that has them put off. I'd put your girlfriends opinion in perspective, always good to make her happy, but at the end of the day, keep it like you like it.

You wouldn't have shaved again if you didn't want to be sly.  Don't worry about what everyone else thinks.  You look fine.

If it makes you happy...should other people's thoughts matter?

I don't see what all the fuss is about. You look just fine.

Maintaining hair because of other people's opinion is unfair to yourself. They don't deserve to have that power over you.

Finally, if MPB is an issue, isn't it better to take control now instead of living the torture of every month seeing a bit more disappear.

Life is too short to spend this much time/energy on a hairstyle.

It looks great sly, if that is what you want, just stick with it.  They will accept in time.  If you keep giving in, they will never accept.

You look great sly. If you are comfortable with it, keep it and everyone else will get used to it. Do what's right for you. What other people think doesn't matter.

you look great - just keep it shaved and others will accept it as you.  Have the confidence to do as you like.

I see nothing wrong with your appearance.  I heard a saying that goes,"What other people think of me is none of my business".

Agreed. If you keep rue shaving it, it's clear that you want to be sly. Just keep shaving everyday so that everyone just gets use to the look.  You look great sly. Why keep fighting mpb. A slick head suits you.

You have to be true to yourself.  I know it sounds like a broken record on this forum, but it's true.  The only person that you really have to please is yourself.  If you like it, keep it shaved, if not grow it out.  Personally, I like it on you.

Thanks guys! You really made me feel better.  And you're all right, its MY head...and if I just stop growing it out people will eventually forget to complain ;)

Ultimately it's your decision. When I first informed people that I was considering shaving my head I was met with criticism and the standard eww bald guys are gross. Well I shaved my head anyway and practically all of those nay sayers changed their tune and said I looked good with a shaved head.

I think you look fine. To thine own self be true.

Your friends will get used to your clipper shave if you stick with it.  I vary from #1 in the winter to #0A, all the way down to #000000 & occasional razor shaves in the summer. Recently, a neighbor commented that he "really could not remember what I looked like before I shaved my head".  Since I don't regularly razor shave, I generally do not consider myself as having a "shaved head", although I know that the general population would consider anyone with a #1 or less buzz as having a shaved head.

You look very great with a smooth bald head. Don't worry about keeping it. Your friends will forget to complain, and will forget how you looked before  8)

Do what makes you happy and confident. What bothers you more MPB or sly. And go from there.
