What's good guys? I just have a question about shiny scalp. I've been going through what I think is called telogen effluvium, or dupa for the passed 5-6 years. I'm not a 100% what it is because I haven't been to the dermatologist, but my entire scalp is thinning out. I went through a traumatic experience in life and I guess that's how my hair started thinning. I don't mind being bald I've been buzzing my head a zero by choice on and off though out my life. I just hate how much my entire scalp shines. Especially when I bick my head with a razor my head shines like a mofo.. my scalp started shinning ever since my hair started yhinning. I know you guys like the shine, but I'm short (5'5) and that shine is not looking good. Any suggestions on how to make my head look more dull? Products? Thanks guys

It's the natural oils in your head. The same oils that make your hair feel oily when you haven't washed it for a few days is the same oils that give your head the shine. I have a shiny head myself, as I suspect most do. It doesn't really bother me, and I just wipe it every now and again. Haven't really looked into any kind of solution that will give it the matte look. If you search the forum, I'm sure you'll find someone who has.
Good luck to you.

Maybe it's just an attitude change. I really admire the super shiny head bald guys. Being BBC, my head is not as shiny as those who have the genes for being bald. Being bald is really cool, and having a super shine really draws attention. Get some head slick Glossy and enhance the shine. Check out Sir Harry's new shine profile picture.
I guess you could always wear a hat if there was too much shine.

I'm short, too a little over 5' 6. When I was buzzing my head with no guard, I always hated the shine. But since I've been a member here, I've been razor shaving, been reading about how much many of the members want a good shine, and I have learned to appreciate my shiny head. What I used to think was embarrassing, I now admire!

I have a super shiny head. My head produces a lot of oils. The good part is that I never get dry skin, on my head or face or even my hands. I've never "needed" to use moisturizers of any kind anywhere on my body, even in super dry conditions.
My issue is finding the right post shave balm. My first try is with Nivea Men Original Replenishing Post Shave Balm, but I don't like it because it seems to leave an oily film right from the start. I also don't like the smell, and it competes with my cologne which I like the smell of. At least the Nivea was cheap so I don't really mind giving up on it.
I might just use what I've been using on my face for about the last 20 years or more, Clinique for Men, Post Shave Soother (used to be called Post Shave Healer). The only thing is its pretty pricy at about $20 for a 2.5 oz bottle. It lasts long enough when I use it on just my face but I figure if it's face + head it'll run out 3x faster. But it doesn't leave that oily sheen that makes for a shiny scalp. I haven't seen any of the Clinique for Men products mentioned on here, so I don't know if anyone else uses them and how they compare.

I did use my Clinique face moisturizer on my head in the beginning. Lately I've been using Aveeno After Shave Moisturizer and it's been working well. Very cooling after the shave and doesn't leave that film that you mentioned the Nivea does.

And it's only about $7-$8 and the 3oz tube will last a while. I'm still on my first tube after close to 2 months now.

Thanks for the replies guys I really appreciate it. Has anyone used that matte for men complete head care lotion? I found it on an ad on this site. Did it work well with you guys? Making shine dull?

I'm only 5'6 I don't "have to" use moisturizer or anything on my head I will use a little witch hazel or whatever after shave I'm using for my face at the time if I get irritation which is rare. But as far as the shine alot of guys spend money on products to get a shine.I sometimes use a little vitamin e oil (my wife had some and I tried it when I first shaved)if I'm going out and want extra shine.During the summer I use the sunblock spray so it's kinda oily and gets me a good shine..so I would say appreciate it and get your shine on :) lol

Alum block. Get one. Rub it on your head. It works. I had a scalp like old ham.
Dis-freakin-gusting.
Alum works a treat. I would NEVER not use it. Get the cheapest one u can find on eBay. It is that good.

it seems like the more I read about all this stuff, the more I need to learn! I'm wondering if Alum is good in the long run. I can see how it blocks things to keep the shininess away, but is it good to do that or better to let the oil seep out naturally instead of trapping it under the skin? Or is that not how it works?

I would hate to have that problem. >:D

Given enough time to grow out, it might not be as patchy as you think. Could just be slow-growing. It can be difficult persevering through the scruffy stages.

Na I let it grow close to 5 months untouched..one side is fine the other has a gap next to the goatee that never grew in and the goatee was past my collar bone ...then my dad came to GA from Tx for Christmas and informed me that's why he had always wore goatee instead if full beard lol

Razor, That Beard is really looking awesome.

jkid714, If you want a more dull look, You could try Headblade headlube matte. They have one that has a built in sunscreen with a SPF rating of 30.

Baldjoeg, I just ordered some yesterday. Hope it works. And thank you everyone for helping me out. Glad I found this forum. Heres a pic of my head after not shaving for 2 days. It's still very shiny as you can see. If I do shave... it creates this mirror effect. Just not for me guys(https://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi61.tinypic.com%2Fndmyp4.jpg&hash=19cbecfd4c9481ce7b42672a41d224abce45b3bc)
