Most were shocked. Some were digging it. Others were asking if I was alright. Then there were some who gave me weird faces and told me to grow my hair back because I did not have the head shape for it.
Definitely felt discouraged.
This the second day after I completely shaved it using a head blade. I have been reading the posts here which have been encouraging.
Am thinking too much about the shape of my head?

1st of all ... welcome to the sly fraternity. And yes... you are thinking too much. You look like a natural. Don't worry about what others think. BTW... how do you like it? I say it is a keeper. Keep us posted on what you decide.

it feels so breezy especially with the winter time. My hair has grown pretty quickly so I'm debating whether I should shave it now or wait. How long should the hair be before shaving again? I know when I first tried shaving it, it would get caught. I am getting a shadow. How do you help even out the skin tone?

As a proud head shaver. . . I would keep it shaved. It is going to get between the 20-30s here tonite and in the next few days. On cold days... I wear a beanie to protect my shaved dome. I like to keep my dome super, smooth so I usually head shave every other day. As far as "evening" out the skin tone. . . during the spring and summer will help even the skin tone better in which you can comfortably go outside and let the sun shine naturally on your dome to even out the skin. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try shaving it again tonight before bed. I have read that some people have used Jergens natural glow lotion to even out the skin tone. Have you used that?
Honestly, there are days where I love my head shape and then there are days when I dread it and feel like I have to cover it up. I have a brother-in-law that does a number 1 clip and he sometimes shaves but it seems to look good on him. I have a receding hairline so I don't know if I want to have some stubble.
-
@Hainess: Yes... I have heard about the Jergens Natural Glow Lotion to even out the skin tone and there are many SBG members who use and love that product. I tan very easy so I was able to even out the skin tone without using any products when I 1st head shaved back in 2007.
If I were you, I would keep the shaved look for at least 30 days. There is an "unwritten" rule here at SBGs called the "30 day rule" in which the new head shaver will keep their dome super smooth for at least 30 days. After the 30 days... the new head shaver will decide whether to keep it shaved or decide to grow it out.
I have been a proud member here since 2007 and have only witnessed one head shaver to go back to growing their hair. I can't think of the member but 99% love it and keep it shaved.

Yeah, I think I will take on this 30 day challenge. Just shaved and it looks real cool. haha. taking me forever to shave though and got some red spots cause I probably took too many passes with the head blade atx. I just put some regular lotion on and it burns.
What are you recommendations after shaving? I just put lotion on but I would like to hear what you guys use.

You look great.
Thanks for the vote of confidence!

@Hainess: Immediately after my face and head shave... I perform a cold water rinse, pat dry, ice cube rub until it melts, pat dry, apply refrigerated witch hazel, let air dry, and apply (my pick of after shave of the day).
The cold water rinse and ice cube rub closes the pores and the coolness will help alleviate any razor burn, the witch hazel will help nourish and tighten the skin.

@hainess ... you've got nothing to worry about. Looks perfectly normal.
Now ... just relax and enjoy and maintain.

Hainess,
Stop thinking about the shape of your head. You look terrific sly. Welcome to the Forum!

Welcome, Hainess! (love the username!)
Looking at your pictures, you have a great headshape and look great sly....As far as the shadow, that's just part of being a bald man, but no one will know the difference except maybe another bald man. That said, it seems your friends that made the negative comments are jealous, but I wouldn't let that get me down....Good luck and enjoy the forum!

Welcome to SBG ! Looks awesome ! Glad you giving the 30-day period. You will not regret.
-
you look great. heads come in many shapes. keep it shaved and the shaven look will be you naturally.
-
Glad you joined us, Hainess.
Quit worrying. Your head looks fine.
-
Welcome!
As others have said, heads come in different shapes and sizes. Don't worry about what anyone else says, it will become natural and they wont remember soon anyways. You look great sly.
For cold days, I just wear a beanie. It is currently around 8°F here with a wind chill of -7° and i'm perfectly warm.
-
Welcome to the club, Hainess. Sly looks good on you!
-
Looks good bro! I wouldn't worry too much about what others think. I too was worried that the shape of my head wasn't right for the shaved looked, but it actually looks fine. Your's is fine too.
You don't need to apply too much pressure, let the blade glide over your head. I shave every other day and find that it makes shaving easier and quicker. The cold water rinse is definitely a must to help cool the head. Afterwards I use AVEENO® Men's™ After Shave Lotion and that definitely helps with keeping it feel nice and cool.

I appreciate all your comments. Picked up some witch hazel and looking forward to trying it. Aloe Vera is always good.

Any tips on traveling? I have a business trip coming up and the head slick bottle definitely will not make it thru carry-on. I hate checking luggage in. How have you guys traveled with all that is needed to keep a shave?
-
Gotta say these guys are right, you are over thinking it and you do look good with it! O0
My current routine is Headslick with a few drops of Secret Shave (AWSOME PRODUCT.. The first shave I used it on I noticed my dome was SOOO much smoother). Lather it on my head.. Then use my Fusion Proglide on my side burns (the facial hair that I can get to grow doesn't connect to them).. Then I get out my Headblade ATX and go to town. After I mix my aftershave with a couple more drops of secret shave and a combination of Aloe Gel and Witch Hazel (80% Aloe and 20% Witch Hazel plan on changing that to 60-40).

The Headblade travel kit works well (see headblade.com). If you use the link here at SBG you'll get a 20%(?) discount.
IF you are ordering from headblade.com I highly encourage you to add a couple of pumps for your large bottle of HeadSlick at home (I think they're 75 cents) - really makes it all easy.
-
I shaved a consecutive day and still get nicks here and there. How do you guys not get nicks? Do you wait until the nicks heal before shaving again?
-
You may be applying too much pressure when shaving. Remember, you only need light pressure, let the blades glide on your head and do the work.
-
I will echo what everyone else has said. You look great. You friends and family are simply reacting to the huge change in your look. After a couple of days, no one will even notice, and after a couple of months, they will have a hard time remembering what you looked like with hair.
I still get the occasional person who just does not like the sly look, and that's okay, I love it and that's all the matters. In fact, since it has been 2 years since I started shaving, there are many people in my life that have never seen me with hair. They think I look very odd with hair when I show them pictures.
-
Let me add my vote of approval. You have nothing to worry about your head shape. You look great sly. Shave every two days to minimize irritation. That's what I do.
