Hi everybody!
I just found this site today and have loved reading it so far. I am 29 and have been losing my hair for a while now. I've been getting it cut at a #2 for the past 6 months or so, and am thinking of taking the next step.
I currently use a Gillette fusion for my face, would that be ok to start with on the head as well should i choose that route?
Here is a pic of the back of my head, this is about a month after my last hair cut.
Thanks for any input!

Welcome brother!
I was buzzing my hair for the past year and was thinning on the crown, much like you. On my last pass with the clippers this past November, I noticed that it had thinned considerably and made the decision that it was time to shave it all off. I haven't looked back since. I say go for it! You'll feel such a sense of relief!
I also use the Fusion Pro-Glide and really like it. It gives me a smooth shave and I've had no issues with nicks or cuts. Started out with a Mach 3 and accidentally used the Fusion one day and have been using it ever since.
We only have one life. Live life, don't let life live you!
Peace!

Oh and it looks like you have a goatee, so that will work well with the shaved head. But then again, I am kinda biased to the look of bald and facial hair since I am bald and bearded.
-
Thanks for the input and reply Doc.
Good to hear on the fusion. I love the clean feeling it gives my face so was hoping it may work ok if I use it on my head.
And yes, I do have a goatee as well!
-
Glad you joined us, Mineral.
I also use the Fusion for everything. I was using it on the beard before I started shaving my head. It still gives me the smoothest shaves of any of the razors I've tried.
When are you considering shaving it all off?
-
Thanks Cave Dweller!
I'm thinking about doing it this weekend.
-
Welcome, like most of us here, you will probably love it. I look forward to shaving every morning, and I.m BBC. Nothing like the smooth feel of your head shaved. I have received almost all positive reactions. Trim your hair as short as you can before shaving for the first time.
-
It sounds like you have decided on the weekend so we will look forward to the after pic. Personally I would keep the goatee as (I'm biased) some facial hair is a good combination with a shaved head. Enjoy the experience.

Welcome, Mineral! I think you would look good sly...but if you are afraid of making a mistake on the first go-round, you can always go to a barber and ask him to no-guard it for you first...or see if he does head shaves...Of course if you have all the tools you need and can do it on your own, go for it! Good luck!

Another Welcome Mineral ... be sure to read the "30 Day Challenge" topics, which basically recommends you commit to the new look for 30 days to give yourself time to adjust to the new you -- and others as well.
Though, personally, it took me about 30 seconds to decide this was the way to go.
-
I would just bic it. You are meant to be smooth since it look better
-
Wow thanks for all the replies and tips!
I will take a look at the 30 day challenge threads and read up a bit. The more I think about it the more I lean towards sly.
Will keep you updated.
Thanks again!

The suggestion about getting it as short as possible is a good one. You have dark hair and only the closest of shaves will partially conceal the balding area. The difference being that you'll be bald by choice and not by creeping follicle retreat. Also, keep in mind that after you shave it, there will only be a short period in which it feels smooth, five o'clock shadow follows hair wherever it grows.
Good Luck and Welcome!

You are there so go for it - - -you will not be sorry - - -and you will enjoy the sly look

Hi, Mineral!
Welcome to a great forum full of great & helpful people.
I would recommend that you buzz your hair down with a #0 blade on the clipper & then take it smooth with a good quality shaving cream such as that bought from Head-Blade or similar & a good quality razor such as Gillette Fusion or Gillette Mach III. Remember to shave only with the grain (direction of hair growth) to begin with as your scalp will be fairly sensitive at this stage & also be careful around the ears & in general...... take your time.
Remember to post-up some pics if you can.
As a footnote to the above, follow the 30-Day-Rule as it will help you with the commitment to be a Sly Bald Guy & help get you into a good routine.
Best wishes,
Bill

I say go for it! It is such a relief when you finally do it! Im 23 and balding at the crown like yours and I finally said screw it and shaved it out of the blue, lol. Now I feel so confident.. I was balding for a reason.. and that was so I would shave it one day and feel better, then I have in years, about myself.
-
You guys are fantastic...thank you for the advice and support!
-
Make sure to come back here and share with us your experience, how you feel, the reactions you get, etc. We'd love to know how this change changes your mood and attitude. I tell you, I bet you'll feel a big sense of relief and a new found confidence.
Share a pic or two also. On one of the other categories, there is a before and after thread.

Well i went through with it over the weekend and love it.
My wife isn't too thrilled by it at this point but I think it'll grow on her.

Thanks for the support guys!

I agree with them, and she'll think it'd be weird if you did have hair.
-
Give yourself and your wife a chance to adjust to the new look. My bet is she'll come around to the sly look.

Wow, Mineral13, that is a VAST improvement. The shaved head and the goatee suit you very well. I think that you'll get thru the 30 days with no problem. I also think that your wife will get used to the new look. Let's just say that your new look ups the voltage, if you get my drift.
-
Congrats, man! Give your wife time to adjust...I bet you won't miss that donut hole...Looks great and the goatee is a nice touch.
-
Give it a week and no one will remember what you used to look like. This one's a keeper for you.
-
A winner. My wife was also initially approving but after a couple of weeks all was fine. Subsequently when I decided to see what hair might be left if I let it grow out I was politely asked to get rid of the stubble.
-
Yea.. You look awsome sly.
-
Wow! It looks terrific and you like it already. It's just a matter of time for your wife. Soon she will forget you even had hair!
-
Great improvement, Mineral
-
How refreshing. Looks much better.
Give your wife at least the 30 days to adjust.
My wife and daughters said it took them a little longer, but by 30 days, they were not 'complaining' much any more. At two years, bald is me!
Nice of you to join us. The new look suits you well.
-
Looking good my brother! And the goatee is a nice touch.

Thanks everybody! O0
