Title: Just Shaved it
Post by: GusFring on December 28, 2013, 12:23:28 AM
I was slowly balding. Most didn't notice but I did. My hair was getting thinner on top and i could sense the v formation on top. Today, I shaved it all, razor. I think it looks really good and I suit it but I'm so terrified about how others will perceive me. I was never popular with women at all but this may just about have sealed my fate with them. Will my friends shun me? Im paranoid right now. What do I do?!

Welcome, Gus! Shaving your head is indeed a life changing experience, but as long as you be yourself and carry yourself confidently, women will be attracted to you no matter what. If a woman wants to avoid you because you're bald, she isn't worth your time. I bet it looks good, post a pic when/if you can and enjoy the forum!

All that matters is if you like it. Who cares what other people think.

I remember a similar feeling when I first shaved my head.  It did not last long. I went into work with a smile on my face and an attitude like "I have something special".

For some, it will be a shock at first, but remember the 30 day rule. By the end of a month, the 'reactions' will be over with and people will recognize you as the bald guy. Confident. Cool looking.

If you read through the posts here on SBG, you'll see a lot of guy wonder about remaining attractive to women, and I can't think of one who had long term problems with being bald and never finding another girlfriend.

Just relax and enjoy your new look.

I think Sir Harry hit the jackpot. Confidence is sometimes sexier than good looks and hair.

Working out like crazy might help!! It also keeps you healthy.

Also try focusing on being a better person overall. As in try being nicer than you were before or now (I'm not saying that your a mean person or anything  :x! ). Women don't judge people by looks alone you know.

Carrying a smile on your face helps tremendously. It makes you feel happy even when your sad and people tend to talk to you without you having to come up with a reason to start a conversation.

Your shaved head is only something trivial. In a serious relationship looks don't really matter so there is no problem O0

Welcome Gus ... Congratulations to you for taking charge.

Those first few days of revealing your new look can be uneasy. They aren't always.  People will see a "different" you, and generally people don't like change - even if it is for the better.

Expect lots of comments the first day. And ... easy for me to write ... don't take any negative remarks too seriously. Again, it is people responding out of surprise.

Bolster your self-confidence. Be proud of your new look. Be proud of having the courage to deal with thinning hair.

By the next day you will be "old news" and people will have moved on to a new topic, which probably also isn't their business.

If you haven't read the 30-day rule section, be sure to do that. You'll see that your concerns are totally normal, and that the expected reactions are seldom as negative as you expect.

This is the beginning of an entirely new phase of life for you. Enjoy every minute.

Pride yourself that you have the confidence to shave your head and be somewhat different. Allow shaved heads are now not that uncommon.  As others said exude confidence.  Many gals love guys with shaved heads.

Hi Gus,

Welcome to SBG! You like the way you look sly and you think it suits you - that's really all that matters. I know that facing your family and friends now may be difficult, but that part will be over quickly. And in no time the comments, both good and snarky, will stop.

Enjoy the new look and be confident!

Gus, don't plant the thoughts in your mind that it's weird. That will be defeating.

What else could it be?

Courageous.
Assertive.
Confident.
Independent.
Liberating.

I think it looks really good and I suit it

Gus, we are our own worse critics. If you think it looks great and the looks suits you, then you are over halfway there already!  If you think it, then own it!  Others will think so too and your confidence will not allow them to think differently.  Congratulations on the bold move. O0

Don't worry Gus. I am going through what you are going through. O shaved mine 3 days ago and you get a lot of reactions. I reckon it will subside after a few days like everyone.

Weird does not mean that it is bad. Weird can be good as well you know ? ;)

Well most women wouldn't find me attractive with hair. I've had some dates from POF with some attractive girls but I think it was off the merit of my personality totally. I don't know if 20 year old bald guys get any looks from women.

Believe it or not, Gus, I have a friend who shaved his head starting at 18, though he wasn't balding....He still got dates with some nice looking women. Here we are almost 20 years later and he's still bald, but married to a nice looking lady (one he was dating) with two kids. Being bald is not the end of the world as long as you don't let it get to you. Also, there is nothing wrong with making the first move when meeting young ladies....Good luck!

I guess it's tough. I'm not jacked like Vin Diesel. I'm not fat but not fit either. I'm Middle Eastern so my dark feautrues do help. I donno it's so confusing these days.

I'm turning 18 in June . So age is not really a deciding factor I think.

Congratulations, Gus.

Yes, as the gentlemen before me have stated, people are going to notice the new look, and you will receive some comment. If you are like most of us, though, the comments will be almost completely positive. Some friends (usually guys) may kid you, but that ends pretty fast.

The worst thing you can do is act self-conscious or unsure about your smooth head. All that negative vibe will do is fulfill your worst fears of how people perceive you. As so many have said before, your inner confidence in yourself is key to how people react to you. You have made a bold change. Enjoy it.

And Welcome.

I also used to and still continue to always wear fitted hats to match my clothing and I'm pretty well dressed so I guess I can hide it

You don't need to hide it my friend. Not hiding it and being comfortable with it is the whole point of being confident with it.

If you are wearing caps to complement the look, you may do so. Or if you want to create a new trend or something. I am not asking you to stop wearing hats if you know what i mean.
