Title: Irritation from winter hats
Post by: TyroneT80 on December 16, 2013, 11:05:17 PM
Hey guys, im new to slybaldguys and i just wanna say i love being bald and im loving the site thus far. But I've recently encountered a problem. I work outdoors and now that winter is in full gear, i naturally do what i have to do to keep warm. Recently my winter hat has been irritating the hell out of my scalp. And i dont mean mildly irritated. My entire head was covered with bumps for nearly a month. This happened twice before i figured out it was my hat causing the severe irritation. Has anyone else experinced this and if so what remedies or head wear would you recommend

Welcome to the board, Tyrone.

What material was the hat or it lining made of? I have a feeling your problem may be a simple allergy to something like wool.

My hat of choice to keep warm is the beanie. I buy cotton or acrylic. Wool and I do not do well.

Welcome, Tyrone! Were you referring to the wool pullover caps or the traditional ball cap? Either way, I work outdoors (mostly) and wool hats made my head itch, mostly due to working in dust. I found out that wearing a stocking cap/wave cap underneath keeps the wool hat from making my scalp irritated. That said, a big key is to keep applying some form of lotion and washing your scalp at least twice a week to keep your head from drying out. Good luck!

Thanks for the help guys. Im honestly not sure what fabric my hat is because its so old. My guess is its either wool or cotton.
