.... and don't mind a little -- OK, a lot of -- discomfort:

That sure was a lot of trouble for a guy who really had too short of a beard to look like a "good" Santa anyway.
-
Man, he must have really wanted to have a white beard to go through that!
-
I'm not sure why shaving it brought him relief. Seems like the last thing you'd want to do to irritated skin is drag a razor blade over it.
-
Seems like it would be painful to shave and if the hair was brittle, he probably got a lot of ingrown hairs after the shave!

Couple of years ago I was passing a mall in Atlanta (in around September). There were tons of older men around, all wearing shorts, but with longer white hair and full beards. Found out they were holding auditions for Santa.

The funniest part about that is that after describing this horrible and painful procedure, there are directions for doing it!

Perhaps his first clue should have been that he couldn't find a professional who was wiling to bleach his beard!

Yeah - bleach and face - don't really go together!

Here's another guy who tried it. Don't try this at home.

This guy really looks like Santa!

OMG.

The 2nd guy makes a much better Santa -- but my god, I'd not go through all that toxic process.
But then, I wouldn't have to...

My wife has a relative that played Santa for several years with a natural beard. His beard and hair was mostly white with some gray. His wife, who was a trained beautician, did something to lighten the grays that was not all that difficult. He also has some temporary stuff that he would spray in to hide the gray at times. They went first class all the way with it, very nice suite, etc. They would earn between $10K and $20K per year in November and December. Not bad to supplement retirement.
He stopped last year because of health reasons and immediately shaved his beard.

There is nothing at all wrong with a sly Santa! ;) As long as the beard is there...

That's true... you never see a kid pull on Santa's hat too see if he has hair. They only pull on his beard to see if it's real.

I am getting Santa comments even with my bald noggin exposed. If I keep growing the beard, I would like to do a part time Santa gig next Christmas! The beard and sly noggin are beginning to be my image! Heck, I really don't mind the Santa belly.....image-wise. But I am glad that for health reasons that the belly is going away! I can always wear padding!
