Title: Newly bald and looking for advice
Post by: Oklahomabald on November 06, 2013, 08:36:41 AM
Hello everyone! I've been shaving my head for two weeks now and have looked at this forum almost daily trying to find out what razor and shaving cream works best. I'm going to try the Mach 3 razor and Head Slick shaving cream as that seems to be what the majority recommends. Any other suggestions?

Welcome, OKbald.

I know a lot of people (me included) love the HeadBlade. However, there are many that don't care for it. It's really a personal preference thing.

On shave creams, I actually use a 50/50 mix of Headslick and Bald Guyz shave gel. I love the feel of Headslick, but find it clogs my razor. Bald Guyz (a great shave gel itself) helps with the clogging.

Good Luck and stay smooth!

Thanks for the info. If I find that it is clogging my razor I'll try something different. I'm basically bald on top and only grow hair on the sides and in back so I just started shaving completely. Didn't know how I'd like it but so far I'm loving it. This site is a big help with information.

Congratulations on losing the horseshoe, sir.

If you have been reading the threads on this board, then you probably have deduced that each of us has our own opinion of what works best for our respective domes.

I use the Gillette Fusion after applying Shave Secret (a great pre-shave oil that eliminates friction and irritation) and HeadSlick mixed in my mug with a shaving soap like Van Der Hagen. That gets me to completely smooth each morning. HeadBlade does not do as good a job for me.

HeadSlick never has given me a problem with clogging my razor. Both Shave Secret and Van Der Hagen soaps are available at Walmart and are very inexpensive.

Welcome!

Welcome!  I don't have any better advice on the products.  I use the Mach III with Edge Gel... nothing fancy (works for me).

We are glad to have you here!

Welcome Okbald!

I've been buzzing my head for years, but started to shave completely sly last summer.  I go back and forth between the two, but when I do shave which is about once a week now, I use some fancy schmansy stuff my daughter bought me from the Body Shop.  I use a brush she bought me and Maca Root Shave Cream.  I love the feeling of using the brush with the cream on my head, but believe me when I am done with this, I will not be making such an expensive purchase on my own!  I'll still use the brush, but find a cheaper cream.

As far as the razor goes, I'm using a Gillette Fusion ProGlide.  I think I got some free samples in the mail.  When I need something new I'll be looking for a sale.  Yes, I know, I'm so tight I squeak!

Welcome. Oklahoma.

Good to hear that you are enjoying the refreshing feeling of a completely bald head.  Have fun experimenting with various razors, soaps, creams, gels.  You'll soon find one that really suits.

Post a picture. We all enjoy seeing another bald guy.  It's an inspiration to those who are on the fence.

Thanks for the welcome and suggestions sly guys! Edge gel always did a good job on my face(been using an electric razor the last few years). I started out shaving every other day but have since changed to everyday. I like to keep it as smooth as possible.

Ok sly guys I just had my first shave using the Mach 3 and Head Slick ( It took more than a dime sized drop) but it worked great. The closest shave I've had yet. Afterwards I ran an ice cube over it and put on some Nivea post shame balm. Had to do it at the sink though. I don't think I'm ready to try it in the shower yet.

I have used the Gillette Fusion and Shick Hydro 5, both of which I found worked fine.  After reading  here earlier I got the Magnum M5.  To me it did similar job and it cost less than half of the the others.  So I have stayed with that.  Again with any shave go lightly.

Welcome OklahomaBald!

I myself like the Gillette Fusion Power. It leaves nice smooth skin under it. I use a brush and either Proraso shaving soap or HeadSlick - the brush is a Definite nice touch!

Good luck - you have a great dome for the sly look! Hope to see you around the forum!

The Mach 3 is a good razor, i used that for many years and then switched to the hydro 5 merely for price wise, the headslick is also a great product to use, been using headslick for years and will never change, have you thought about exfoliating before or after you shave to get all the dead skin off your head? headblade makes headshed or you can also go with St.ives as well either way its good no matter what you pick. Just being curious what kind of moisturizer are you using, welcome to SBG glad to see you here, the sly look looks great on you!

Welcome OklahomaBald! Lots of good advice here and eventually you will figure out your routine. I like using a shaving oil too with a gel shaving cream applied right on top of that. The shaving oil will eliminate razor rash and help to eliminate nicks. Razor rash is pretty common first time shaving because the scalp isn't use to being shaved. Shaving oil will eliminate that for you. Good luck. You look great shaved.

Thanks guys!
I did start out using the Mach 3 and it worked great, but I have switched to the Schick Quattro just because its cheaper. I have also used disposable razors that I got from Dollar General and surprisingly they worked great plus they were super cheap.
I don't really have a dead skin problem so I don't exfoliate, and for a moisturizer I just use Nivea post shave balm. It seems to work good.

Welcome, Oklahomabald.  Your head looks really shiny with no shadow.  The clean-scalp image really suits you.  Plus, your thick mustache goes well with a bald head.  Congratulations on losing the horseshoe and gaining slyness!

I also use the Gillette Pro Glide Fusion. I get a really close shave with it and no nicks unless I'm rushing.

I use my Braun all over the head and then Gillette Fusion pro glide on the top as that is only bit that is still a tiny bit rough after using the Braun Series 3 (340).

Welcome to SBG. You look great sly. I usually use a Gillette Mach !!! or a Gillette Fusion razor and headslick and some shavers secret. I hae a Micro1 DE razor also that I am starting to use. I need some more practice with this one but it does a good job and the blades are cheap.
