Title: Back with a buzz
Post by: Navigator on October 02, 2013, 09:38:47 AM
Hi all,

This is the long time in coming sequel to my previous thread - http://www2.slybaldguys.com/smf/index.php?topic=19144.0 (http://www2.slybaldguys.com/smf/index.php?topic=19144.0) - in which I discovered I'm so damned intelligent my brain is just bursting out the back of my skull..literally!  :D

In the end, I caved and grew my hair back. I just wasn't ready to go sly just yet. No, shaving my head did not cause the world to end like I thought it would and, yes, my hair did, in fact, grow back and not disappear forever into some parallel dimension. I still don't feel especially great every time I get a haircut when I see my hair retreating away from me each time, but I still don't feel ready to take the plunge yet. But I did come back here eventually so I'm not a completely lost cause.  ;)

I've basically just been getting a number 3 buzz cut as it's the shortest length that will minimize the hair loss without showing the weird cornrow phenomenon caused by the hair in the grooves on my scalp (it still showed up looking weird as it was growing out). So my options are pretty much a number 3 or completely sly. For now, I want to hang onto the hair I've got until I have no choice but to go sly because I have nothing left! lol After all, I've got the rest of my life to be sly so may as well keep what hair I've got until it retreats into unsalvageable territory (ie way too holes or thinness to be worth keeping at all). So that's where I'm at at the moment.

I saw a dermatologist, who confirmed it's cutis verticis gyrata (as if that really needed confirming! lol) and that is generally benign and is unlikely to be the result of some other underlying medical condition. It's just some weird thing that happens for unknown reasons and can't be fixed.

Here's me with the Van Dyke as my hair was growing out again:

And here's what I look like now. Grew the beard back.

Looking good sir! Welcome back!

I know all about fighting to keep it as long as possible but in the end, I had to finally surrender to the sly since the tight buzz cuts weren't 'cutting it' any more!

Buzz it a little tighter, keep the beard. It's a good look.

I'd buzz the sides a little shorter than the top.  O0

Welcome back

The buzz looks good.....At least you tried sly and it didn't work out (for now). The beard is a nice touch, also.

I like the beard, and like the buzz.

When you're ready, the beard with a sly noggin will look great on you.

Thanks for the update!
