Sorry if this is a re-post. I tried to search for this toppic, and I couldn't find it. I have been shaving my head for three days now. My head is sore, as expected. How often should I apply lotion for the first 30 days? And when will the razor burn sensation go away? Anyways, I love my new bald head. But the girlfriend needs to get used to it.

You need an aftershave balm that helps with those issues and probably a better preshave/shaving cream regimen. It really shouldn't hurt a lot to shave your head. Check on the forum and there are LOTS of threads about products people use. Also, use a sharp blade. That is essential because a dull one will drag and cause irritation. I'm probably saying things you already know. I hope this helps.

Yea. I have some pretty good stuff already, just a first time shaver and my head needs to get use to the razor/ me get use to shaving. It is fine through out the day, just right after shaving it hurts.
-
Hey Vogi,
Yes, your skin can be irritated by the blade. I strongly recommend a pre-shave oil like Shave Secret or Somersets. I found the oils really cut down on friction and irritation. I found Shave Secret at WalMart.
It also helps if your scalp is warmed up before you shave. I just stick mine under the hot water in the sink before oiling and lathering up.

Thanks guys. And that is my day 1 photo. I will update once the facial hair comes back in. (growing out a handle bar mustache goatee.

If you're using canned, aerosol type shave gels or creams you may wnat to consider some better products. That should help.
The better products tend to have little or no bad stuff in them and more good stuff.

By mistake I purchased an after sun gel with aloe vera, it works great on razor burn, and is the only thing that calms down the redness I suffer with when shaving my neck

Vogi,
I may lose my "sly card" for saying this, but I don't shave my head everyday. I shaved it for three consecutive days only once. In my opinion, the 30 day challenge is more about keeping the look for 30 days than it is about scraping your scalp for 30 days. If you find that you can shave every two or three days and still have minimal visible stubble, then you may feel the same as I do. To me, the important thing is to try the shaved look for a good amount of time. If you need to take a break for a day or two to let your head recover, it is not breaking the 30 day rule.. just don't go don't let it grow back out during the 30 days.
**now stand back, because some guys may start throwing things at me, and I don't want you to get hit in the crossfire. haha (H@

I support SlyMyke. The point is to stay baldheaded for thirty days. Shave as often as you need to, to do that.
-
Slymyke, count me in the "I don't shave everyday club"....As a mod, I promise you won't lose your sly card LOL

I have noticed after just 4 days, i am getting the hang of shaving. The skin has gotten a little used to it. And i am using everything from head blade. I heard great reviews from them, and I figure it is made for shaving the head, so it must be pretty good.

Hey, Vogi here's another suggestion: Rub over your scalp with an ice cube after shaving....Also, invest in a bottle of witch hazel. They help close the pores and in my case, I hardly get any stinging sensation or pain. Good luck!
-
Amen to skipping a day here or there! And YES to the witch hazel! I use it every shave while my head is still wet. It may take some time to toughen up the ol' dome derma... Go easy and it should be ok. You may also want to shave with the grain for a while.

How's the scalp doing? Any improvement? The HB products are used by a lot of guys on here and are well loved. I used HeadSlick for a LONG time but changed to shave soaps about a year ago. No particular reason.
-
One of the many excuses I had while I was procrastinating about shaving my head was that I wasn't sure I wanted to commit to lathering up and shaving my dome every day. I tried the Wahl balding clippers and I tried blade-shaving every other day but I eventually fell into a pattern of blade-shaving on a more or less daily basis. Nowadays I usually shave six days a week -- every week day and then late in the afternoon on Saturday, which takes me through to Monday morning. I never go more than a day without shaving. I just can't bring myself to appear in public with more than a day's worth of stubble. I realize that no one else is likely to notice the difference, but a slick scalp looks and feels so much better to me. :)

Same as me razor x, having a Sunday off really makes a difference
-
Thanks for all the suggestions and advice. My head is toughening up. I knick every once in a while. On day 7 and see a HUGE improvement. My head stop hurting. Guess it was just razor burn.

Good news Vogi! Way to hang in there.

Glad to hear it's getting better!!
I like the ice cube rub at the end (as long as it doesn't run down the neck and onto the back....brrrrrrr!) then a little lotion after towelling it off.
I do generally razor shave each weekday then relax on the weekends (unless there's some big 'to-do').
