Title: against the grain or with the grain

I always heard shave with the grain for the scalp and face but also some people say shaving against the grain gives you a closer shave. Which is best to do I shave with the grain usually but yesterday I shave against it and the domes a lot smooth still a day later with no irritation or in grown hairs.

I usually go both ways, wtg first then atg. Virtually no shadow for at least 24 hours.

I shave against the grain on scalp and face...quickly, with a Mach III and Edge shaving gel with aloe.

My strict rule on head and face is: with/across/against.  You get a bbs shave and will greatly increase the life of your blade/s

When I shave in the sink I go WTG and then ATG. When in the shower I pretty much go ATG since it's a much faster process and the heat and moisture keep my scalp nice and supple.

With the grain! I am not bald (yet) so I hate a shiny chrome dome.. Plus it's easier, you pretty much can't go wrong WTG, but damn you can go VERY wrong ATG.

With the grain I use a teakwood straight razor. Against the grain I use the head blade.

I usually go against the grain with Edge shaving gel, rinse, then put aloe on afterwards.  Luckily, no razor burn so far.

ATG on my head but I have to go WTG on the back of my neck otherwise I get bad razor bumps
