Title: First Shave
Post by: Wigout on September 06, 2013, 07:43:56 PM
Hello everyone. I am in my late 40's and have had a full head of hair until the last 5 or 6 years. I have been gradually thinning on the top and in back until I have been forced to keep a short cut to keep it from being too obvious. I have, for the first time in my life, decided to just shave my head. The first morning after I was sleepily walking through the bathroom and caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror through the corner of my eye. Scared the crap out of me. It took me a half second or so to realize it wasn't someone else standing next to me. It's been 2 days now and although I have had compliments, I am wondering if maybe I made a mistake. This site has been a blessing to me. I have decided now to give it the 30 days trial. Thanks all for being here and sharing, it has helped ease my anxiety immensely.

Welcome Wigout , and it does take awhile to get use to the new look in the mirror. Give it the 30 days to find if YOU still like the new style. Many give up to soon, and others find they don't care to keep the new look.

Welcome to the SBGs.  I'm one of those guys that wished I hadn't waited so long to shave my head the first time.  I was 44 with male patter baldness.  I've tried growing it back a couple of times, but I prefer the sly look.

Besides, I just enjoy the whole process of shaving the dome.  Helps me focus and get on track in the morning.

You are born to the look.  The goatee just sets it off.  Keep to the 30 day rule and you will wonder 'why didn't I do this sooner".  Welcome to this great forum.

Don't give it a second thought!!! You were made to be sly!!! You definitely didn't make a mistake. We're all afraid of change. I know I went back and forth for a couple of months before I took the plunge and had my head shaved. Despite the trepidation, once I was sly, I realized how much easier this is to maintain and it just looks much cleaner than a head of hair. You'll get used to it in the next 30 days and wonder why you hadn't done it years prior.

hi wigout. Congratulations.Sorry if this post appears twice as tried earlier but?.

You said it all with you're post when you said this site has been a blessing (my experience too) and that you will try the 30 day rule. You look great, one day at a time, it's impossible to do otherwise. The anxiety will disappear. You are going to be fine and so much happier. Well done.

Looks really good on you, Wigout.  It may feel like a shock to you, as you've seen yourself with hair for so long.  When I first shaved my head, I had similar mirror experiences.  That's natural, especially if you are not super bald already and you're just trimming the fringe.  And for those who are bald by choice ... It's a really different look. But then look around, on this site or in your community. I bet you'll see a lot of Sly Bald Guys!.

30 days is a great challenge. Easy to do.  Gives you a chance to get used to your new look.

Keep posting as you go along the journey.

Hey wigout, no one here is pulling your leg. You look really, really good. I can practically guarantee that long before the 30 days is up, you'll wonder why you were worried.

I felt very self-conscious the first couple of days too - but it soon passes.  You suit the look, you just need some time to get used to it.

Welcome Wigout!

Yes, the look is a bit of a shocker. I think I was uneasy, but I had posted a couple of photos on Facebook so some people would see it and not be so 'shocked'. But the morning after I shaved it, I looked in the mirror and said to myself 'you know what, you have a pretty good head for this!'

So do you. Stick to the 30-day rule and you'll find yourself enjoying every minute of it, I will bet. There are plenty of boards here on scalp care, products and even techniques. You wear the sly look like a natural. Like many others, I wonder why I didn't do it earlier. But now we're here we can move ahead in happiness (and smoothness ;D ) and help out others in similar situations come to see their true selves.

Hope to see you around the forum and enjoy the smooth look !!

Welcome to the forum Wigout. Good choice in choosing to shave it all off. It's always better to take control over the mpb situation.
Hang in there, with time it will become more comfortable to you.
You will definitely be glad you did it, long before the thirty days are up.  O0
