Hi, I'm Dan and I've recently started shaving my head.
It's not been an easy decision to make, as when I was younger I'd always had long hair (about half way down my back), and given the option I still would have, but nature had other plans for my hair style.
When I was in my early 30s it became obvious that as well as having a high hairline, a bald spot was also developing, so at that point I went to a number 4 cut and stayed with that for the next few years. Recently, however, it has become obvious that my hairline had moved backwards to meet my bald spot, and I was the not-so-proud owner of a "hair doughnut", with a tuft at the front.
I'd always joked that if my hair receded too far that I'd shave it off and go for the "Jean Luc Picard" look. About three weeks ago I took the plunge and did it.
I'm still getting used to the idea of being a totally bald guy (apart from my beard), but so far the comments from my friends and family have been pretty positive.

Excellent decision. Looksgood.

Hi Dan. Looks like we took about the same length of time to come to our senses. You look great sly.
-
Welcome....check out the 30 day rule....that way it gives you time to get used to it...usually friends and family get used to it quickly too

Welcome DanO.
Like Geeman said, give yourself the thirty days to acclimate to the new look. A lot of guys here have reported that getting rid of the hair with a razor removed all the anxiety of watching the hair slowly fall out on its own.
You look good.

Welcome Dan. You've made the right decision in shaving it all off. Way to go with taking control over your mpb onslaught. O0

May I encourage you with your new hair adventure in life.
A bald head looks good on a guy named Dan!
There are so many nice things with being bald. It's a good choice!

Welcome to the Forum Dan!
You look great smooth, most everyone does. ;D
The idea of fighting the hair loss is not uncommon, it feels frustrating and leaves you feeling helpless, but the razor puts things back in the proper order, you have the control, you have the freedom and you feel like life is back on your terms again.
Plus, there's nothing more relaxing now (at least for me) than a post-shower lather shave is now, it's an amazing feeling!!
Hope to see you around the forum and welcome to the sly bretheren!! :)

Thanks guys. I think most of my friends and family have got used to the new look (although I'm going to a family reunion tomorrow - so it will be totally new for some of them), and I'm sticking to the "30 day rule" too.
The strange thing is I feel a lot less self-conscious being totally bald than I did with the old "hair horseshoe." I've also gone from being a near permanent hat wearer to being hat free.

Yes deciding to ditch the hat and show off the bald pate is a common experience.
