Title: rock climbing?
Post by: PBurke on July 02, 2007, 07:25:06 PM
anyone into climbing? i did some when i lived in Co. and am thinking of building a wall here. think it would be cool if both of my kids were into something that they both enjoyed and don't really have to be in competition about. and it is one hell of a good workout. just wondering if anyone has a wall at home or is just into climbing in general.

Loved it and did it for years.  Would have a set up to climb and then rappell down.  Made for great weekends.  Midwest has some tricky stuff too.  Some granite but a lot of limestone which is a bugger when wet.  Start collecting the needed materials for that wall...know a sly guy that can help out this month.

there is a fake wall in lafayette. hhmmmmmm?   have taken my teen to it a few times. need to bring the little one and see how he does/likes it.  and then i need to lose about 40 (oh wait i lost 10 this past week) 30 pounds and get in some kinda shape.

I climbed walls a bit a while back.  I thought it was a very fun workout.  Maybe I'll need to look into trying it again.

Hey I would liek to do something fun like that.  Only problem is I really dotn have alot of upper body strength.  I have killer legs though.  I always get compliments on the legs my wife calls them popeye calves.  I jsut have never been able to really build upper body strength...but it might help if i would work out.  Iam just one that doesnt stick with the workouts cause if i dont see immediate results i have a tendency to back off.  I guess i coudl get one of those blow up costume thingies where you wear it under yoru shirt and makes you look liek Arnold.  LOL..  HEY ANOTHER BEACH FASHION IDEA...THAT AND THE CHEFS HAT! you sure no one wants to go on vacation with me to Florida next week??
Any tips on how i can get into a work out program for a lazy guy?  Please send em my way

climbing is more about technique than it is brute strength. i have very strong legs as well. not real big just toned and strong. hand strengh is probably most important. climbing was always a fun way to workout the whole body with out being confined to a gym or something. i miss it bad.

Seems as I dont have time to work out..but there is a new gym opening up here in town it is called Anytime Fitness.  You have 24 hour access to the gym but what worries me is there is no one on duty after 9 pm and if you were to go in there at liek 2 am ( for the night owls) an dyou got hurt?  What the hell would you do?  Guess that is why you dont go to the gym alone.  And two the perverts probably hang out there at that those hours.

I was an avid Rock Climber when I lived in California back in the early 90s.  Spent a lot of time at Joshua Tree and have some fond memories of my adventures.  Of course, my involvement with scuba Diving has put climbing, biking and a few other hobbies I used to have on hold.

BTW the Out Banks Wreck Diving was awesome last weekend  O0.
