Title: Bald or not bald
Post by: silverheart on July 07, 2013, 06:01:39 AM
Hi guys,

I am new on this Forum and I am from the Netherlands. Many years I had problems with losing my hair because of Astma and seborroisch eczeme. I want to decide to shave of my hair totally. The issue is that my forehead is kind of big so that is why I am affraid to make the final decission. My chin - nose = 8 cm / nose - eyebrows - 6 cm / eyebrows - highest top above my head will be 11-11,5 cm (see attached photo) Also I am affraid to get red since i have sensitive skin. Anyways I wish my forehead was not that big since being bold seems freedom to me! So give me your advice please guys I can use some advice in order to make the final decission.

Greetings from Netherlands

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your reaction I guess I needed that very much! Yes I am very affraid if I decide to shave it all my eczema breaks out and perhaps I will get red spots.
That is why I am affraid. Could anyone please advice me if the distance from eyebrows till highest point on top of my head (11-11,5cm) is not why to big...

Welcome, silverheart.

You are not the only one of us who worried about how he would look shaved. From what I can tell by your picture, your head does not have an unusual shape or proportions.  I agree with Mike.  I think you will look fine.

A lot of men on this board have reported that their skin conditions went away when they started shaving.

The only true way for you to know is just to do it.  You will be amazed at how good it feels.

Hi Cave,

Thanks for your reaction, I hope you are right about my skin conditions. I am 42 years old now but it seems like nobody understands my problem.
My wife told me:"Ok if you want to shave it do it but dont complain about it", but i know she loves me with hair eventhough it is very thinning and transparant.
When I met my wife in Peru and get married it was with hair i guess that is why she hates the idea. But everytime I go out and there is wind my hair looks
like a mess and my reflection in a shopping window is horrible (transparant and thinning blond hairline about 5 cm in the middle). That is why i want to decide
to shave it all off. I will probaly do it and shave it all off but believe me it will be a big step for me to do this and very emotional since I don't know how people
will react and if I could except my face in the mirror after doing this. But it seems so liberating and I respect men daring this and I guess I am new at this and
have to become hard for myself and just do it.

How people will react is not important. What is important is how you will feel after shaving your head. You will feel relief from bad hair, you will gain confidence because you carried through with it, and that confidence will radiate. You will walk taller and be good at telling people you chose to do shave your head.

Hey Silver bud there's nothing to it! I looked in the mirror one day and wondered what I would look like bald so I closed my eyes and when down the middle. No need to worry about your forehead....once you shave it all you will see is a bald head, not how big your forehead is! Haha! The plunge will be worth it...I also have a topic I posted on here on how to shave your head with scalp problems....the link is below! Hope I helped! Hi Derris,

Thanks for helping out. The thing is also fear not only for making the decission to shave my head but also because of the fact that i have
a very sensitive skin (because of Eczema). To give an example if i shave my face my face burns like crazy and become red (red spots that burn)
But today I had a situation in which I was confronted with the fact that thinning hair is a complete disaster. I had to go to a job interview
this very day and my hair was kind of long but because of the wind it was going out all directions. Before I stepped into the office of the job
agency I saw my reflection in the mirror that was telling me that I have a hairline for about 5-7 cm in the middle and transparant and my longer
hair (that do have a lot of volume could not camouflage the centre anymore). Yep it looked like the famous cam over. I thought by myself:"
Damn why do I even try to hang on to any hairstyle...why can i not accept that i am balding and let it go and shave it...". My wife is visiting
her family in Peru for a month and I told her within this month I will call a specialist that will cutt my hair at home. I will try 1mm first i guess
and then hopefully I have the balls to shave it all of. The thing is I am over the fact that my forehead is maybe large so what but getting red
spots because of shaving is really stressing me out. Believe me I tried every product there is in order to calm down my skin after shaving it
(my beard). So pffff if there is a God please help me win this war with my skin and hair pfff.

OK, you know that what you've got going isn't working for you. Why is there even a question?

And many guys here with scalp issues have reported that shaving vastly improves that situation.

You don't need Divine intervention, you need to kick yourself in the rear and just get it done.

Don't worry about the 'big head' measurements.  I wear an XXL hat size.  7 7/8th US had size measurement.  Yes, it's almost impossible to find a had that size.

No one comments on my head size.  It's just what it is.  The head size is unimportant.

It is you. It fits you. It looks fine.

Welcome silverheart! Many people have had scalp issues similar to yours, and when they went sly, it cleared up for most of them. It wouldn't hurt to see a dermatologist to see if there is medication for your issue. Welcome to the forum and good luck.

Thanks Guys for the nice words en support!
The thing is I have made an appointement with my hairdresser next Monday she told me she could only trim my hair 1mm
but she wont shave me so I have to do it myself. The thing is I am truly willing to do this sly thing, but you guys have probaly a far
better skin condition then me. Each time I shave my face I sence a burn skin, I try all the tricks products slow shaving in the right
direction. But I am so very senstive that it worries how my head will react if I have to shave it each 3 days or so. Imagine I go
to work and the day before my head breaks out then I feel even more insecure pfff. I am accepting the part that i loss my hair
(finaly) and now I have a new worrie...my skin breaks out easily because of sensitive skin (Eczema Seb.). Anyways I am not
without a job so I told myself I just do it and hope for the best (although I worry when I have another job interview..) Anyways
I am glad to found you guys on this site and I agree with your opinions: "better to be bald then balding" nothing is more sad
then hiding and camouflage or in other words: "accept what you can not change!  and if you can not accept it and there is a way
to change it just do it!". Eventhough I am 42 years old I know that people judge people because the way they look. In job
interviews they not only look at experience and skills or degrees or personality but a great deal they select by the way you look
and I hate that! but I guess some things will never change. I wish you al a very good weekend and maybe next Monday I can
consider myself a true sly member.

there are plenty of posts about razor burn and what to use...I get bad burn on my neck...and have tried everything lol...I switched to a safety razor and use moisturiser on wet skin straight out t of the shower....real shaving cream...not crap in a can and a brush....shaving with the grain, across the grain and finally against the grain, letting the weight of the razor do the work...a good safety razor is solid stainless....razor burn is around 80% less...now that I am used to it on my face, I also shave the noggin with it....cold rinse after...alum block, uce cube rubbed over and finish with chilled witch hazel splashed like aftershave. ..working great

Hi Guys,

Guess what today I finally made the decission and went to the salon and they shaved my head with a clipper 0,5 mm.
To be honest my head looked perfected (shape whise and i did not even head a big forehead). The main issue is that
the salon could not shave my head sly so I have to do it myself. I already sence a burn and I break out on the back of my head
(red marks en whit marks) and the small hairs feels very hard and irritated. I informed some people and told me to use a preshave oil
and headslick menthol and after shaving a matt headblade aftershave balsem without parfum or alchol since I am very sensitive and
have Eczema. The thing is I am kind of scared to shave it myself and I dont trust headblad and I hesistate to go for fusion gillete blade
instead anybody can give me advice which blade to us for super sensitive skin? Thanks in advance.

you nervous about the razor part or cutting yourself silver?

@ Geeman: Thanks but a safety blade is not for me since I have learned that a fusion  or mach is better (I have been told and read many reviews). Has anybody got a youtube movie how to shave your head the right way for sensitive skin like me (not against the grain etc.)? Thanks in advance and greetings from Holland!

Hi Forum bros,

Sorry for the delay but I truly had some bad luck these days. I shaved my head sly and it looked very well and for a moment I truly
felt free. I drove my car with the windows open and let the wind blow in my face without any worries about messing up my thinning hair.
Although this is a small example all my life I felt insecure about my thinning hair so shaving my head feels truly like freedom.
But yesterday I saw with mirror on top of my head that I have a lot of tiny scars on my head probaly from scraching my ecezema
all those years. The ecezema trully damage all my skin on top of my head and back of my head. Tommorrow I will go to the hospital
I trully hope these scars will go away since I want to keep my head truly sly
without any scars or veins. Damn I feel truly sad seems like always when i feel happy another negative situation occurre.
Anyways I wish to thank you all for helping me out with your words since you gave me that extra push to finally do it and shave
all my hair.
