Hi
I usually shave my head with my beard trimmer which gets the hair down very close indeed.
Now, I really would love to shave my head. Few questions to you guys if I may
What razor would you recommend (seen some listed on here, still not sure)
Whenever I shave with the beard trimmer my scalp is always flaky while shaving. Trimmer is white afterwards! Help!
How do you shave? With grain? Do you find it hard to shave your own head?
Lastly, what do you use after the shave for the scalp?

Another thing, how do you manage if you have a spot on your head like a mole? How does it affect your shave?

I'd recommend a multi-blade razor. Something like the Schick Hydro 5 or the Gillette Power Fusion Pro. I've never nicked myself with either of these. They give a good shave. Easy to use.
For starters, go with the grain. You head will be a little tender at first, and this is a more gentle process than against the grain. Give this a few days or a week. Then shave with the grain first, followed by against the grain in the same shave. The against the grain is a much smoother/closer shave and gives a great slick feel. Worth doing, but not at first unless you have tough skin.
I added the headblade a week or two into my startup routine and love it for the 'against the grain' finish. But if I'm not shaving daily, I like to start with the other razors first, with the grain.
As for moles, just go carefully around them. When you're sure that you are going to be shaved bald long term, see your doctor and he can remove the mole. It's not a big deal. I've had many removed over the years (not on my scalp), but other places. I do have a sly friend who has had several scalp moles removed. Said it was no big deal, but makes shaving much easier.

I have the multi blade razors that have been mentioned and like those. I switched to Magnum M5 which is similar and also performs satisfactorily is is half cost. The main thing to remember is not to use lot of pressure. After shaving for a while the process becomes much easier as skin gets used to it.

Welcome aboard! Stick around and you will get many suggestions. Personally, if you wet shave, I would invest in a shaving brush.

Well, I just did my first wet shave on my head!
Firstly I cut my 'mole' blood everywhere! Second, the blade kept popping out of the handle. Think I need a new razor. Mine is a Gillette sensor with 3 blades. I have had it for years.

Sorry about the blood, but congratulations on going Sly.
There is a little bottle of clear oils called Shave Secret (Walmart carries it) Bayou Sly clued me into. I cannot praise it enough. It really helps with getting a smooth shave and reducing irritation. I also strongly suggest you use an aftershave balm for the first month since (as you discovered) your skin is going to be very sensitive to your razor at first.
There have been several posts on this board by guys who swear their flaky skin has cleared up when they shaved it. Exfoliating the scalp seems to have a lot of unexpected positive results.

My head is used to being shaved close with my beard trimmer so the skin is fine.
As I live in the UK I will have to search for a similar product.

Do you guys use a mirror when head shaving in the shower? I didn't. I went by feel plus I am sure the mirror would mist up!

I shave in the shower by feel. I use a Gillette Power Fusion 5 blade vibrating razor. Just razor and water. I also have moles that I have cut. I use vaseline to control bad bleeding. I also use my finger to cover the mole when shaving around it. When I am finished showering, I use Victoria's Secret Very Sexy After Shave Moisturizer. It is very light and smells good. Hi Kool: Welcome to the sly fraternity. Glad that ya joined us. I don't use a mirror when I head shave in the shower. Real men go by feel. ;)
After the head shave... I perform a cold water rinse, ice cube rub, refrigerated witch hazel, and refrigerated Osage Rub. Again. . . welcome to the club.

I'm one of those guys cave dweller mentioned whose flaky scalp cleared up after going sly. In fact, severe chronic dandruff is one reason I decided to go sly in the first place. Personally, my preferred razor is a Schick Hydro 5 although I will sometimes use a HeadBlade Sport. I haven't mustered the courage yet to try a DE despite reading here that the results can be better than from anything else.
I would suggest shaving only with the grain until your scalp is used to it. Then you can go atg as well. If you can, shave after taking a hot shower. That'll help soften the stubble and greatly reduce the chances of nicking yourself.

Well, as my head is used to me using a beard trimmer on it i shaved with and against the grain with no problem at all except for the blade coming off of the old handle and cutting my mole! Seeing doc tomorrow about the mole hopefully.
I live the Sensor triple blade. Just need a good handle for it to stay on.
Didnt put anything on my head after the shave. Wouldnt know where to start.
I am tempted to find a good shaver that can cut almost as good as a wet shave. It feels odd having a smooth head!!

I use the headblade ATX on my head and a water blend aftershave
Eg...
(1 part sorbolene mixed with 1 part water) or
(1 part John Allans Cool Face mixed with 1 part water)

Seen doc this morning and he is referring me to the hospital to have the spot removed! Can't wait.
