Hey guys; just wanted to update my pic with the buzz I gave myself today. Pretty short; even did the beard in quite a bit. I know it's pretty close to a full shave, but no cigar yet. You guys still think 'sly' is the look for me ? javascript:replaceText('%20%3E:(',%20document.forms.postmodify.message); be honest !
Regards,
John

ps. sorry the pic is so out of focus. got to refine my photo techniques.

John: SLY is you, my brother. It looks great. Go for it.
-
Dude....my opinion......
you just prepped to shave your head ...CLEAN, I say just do the deed, you look great with a sly bald noggin... it'll look perfect!
I can already see your future messages , saying why didn't I do it sooner!
Do the deed brother, you'll look cool nice and SLY...
P.S. if you did it right this second and didn't like it , you would almost have a #1 or just shy of it by Mon. or Tuesday...just a thought ;)
-
Hey JohnMont....welcome.
You got a good shaped dome. Shave it..if you don't like it you can always let it grow back.

John, it looks great and looks SLY. Looks won't change much (at all) when you shave it, but it will feel soo much better to you when it is smooth. Later you will look back and this will be what it's like when you didn't shave over the weekend.
So I say, might as well go for it. You're too close not to
-
hey john...... just want 2 echo the comments of baldandre & slyinKC, i KNOW that u will luv it when u break out the razor on that dome. trust us..... u will NOT regret it, brother.

Hey John,
You have got to do it, you're right there. It looks like you can't get any closer.
I echo the rest of the guys, shave it off, you will wish you done it sooner.
I am 3 days into a #1 and 0a buzz from the barber, and I am already anticipating going shorter. They are right, it's almost like an addiction.
Sly in July,
Joe

This is exactly what I was going to say if BA hadn't beaten me to the punch. Looks great, and if you shave it, it will only take a day or two to get back to where it is now.
I actually don't know how people can buzz down this close and then stop. I remember the first time I went that short, back in January of '02. I'd given myself a buzzcut and messed it up and had to go shorter than I planned. I was using a cheap set of clippers so the only way to go shorter was to take off the guard. The result was way shorter than I'd planned. I remember standing in front of the mirror thinking that I was almost completely bald. Toyed with the idea of shaving it, but I wasn't ready for that yet. I took a shower to rinse away the loose clipping clinging to my scalp. Took another look in the mirror when I got out of the shower and toyed with the idea of shaving again. Nah, I couldn't do that, not now. Maybe one day. I got dressed and tried to put the matter out of my mind.
The next thing I remember, it was about 20 minutes later and I was standing at the sink and had just run the Mach III down the center of my head. I just wasn't able to resist the urge to finish the deed. It was the most awesome feeling. It's hard to describe the sensation when you touch your head for the first time and feel nothing but smooth, bald skin. :)
-
Thanks for the feedback, esp. Andre and RazorX. Thanks, Raze, for recounting that scenario. I've gone through that a few times, but of course, haven't gotten as far as you with the MachIII ! ! That day will come soon. I know I should have nothing to fear --that I will look decent bald. Looking in the mirror at predawn, without my glasses (yeah; wear them 99% of the time), the image I see is of a bald guy, and he looks pretty good . Won't be long now . . .
-
Hey, John, It sounds like you're getting there. Just take a step back and look at how for you've come so far. This whole issue is about being happy with your appearance and not having to hide behind anything artificial. Don't be afraid to go all the way with it. That's the only way you're ever going to know if it right and I can tell you from personal experience that the freedom and liberation of the experience is awesome.
-
JohnMont ....
I wouldn't be surprised if you've already done it by now - over the weekend - so I hope I'm not too late!
DON'T DO IT MAN! THINK OF THE CONSEQUENCES ...
.... no, only kidding ... I am with everyone else here ... you've got to go the whole way ... it will look absolutely fine on you. You've nothing at all to worry about & I'm sure like most of us, you'll just end up wondering why you didn't do it sooner ... actually as I said at the top ... I wouldn't be surprised if you've already taken the final step this morning! I hope so.
Also, since I've been coming to this site I've been looking around a bit more whilst out & about & there really are a lot of Sly guys out there these days .. I was in Calais in France the other day & there were many sly guys over there so it's pretty mainstream & most people don't even bat an eye anymore ...
Anyway, a properly shaved head only lasts for a day or two at most & then you're back to where you are now so go on mate, you know you have to do it at least just the once!
-
John, you are soooo close!! You'll look great.
-
John,
You're almost there. I think you would look great sly. What's really important is that YOU like it.
Darrell
-
Shave it John
-
Just do it man!!!
-
O0 O0 O0 Ahoy, John. Do not touch the goat but shave it all off your head. Great cranial shape and proportions. What are you waiting for. Get clean; you won't regret it. Professor Melon
-
Yo dude, step up and do it. It's only hair.... @c3
-
John, go for it man! DO IT! You won't regret bro O0
-
Thanks, Prof. Mellon. This means a lot coming from you. I particularly admire your looks ; and the overall tone of your posts -- Yours is a look I'd like to emulate
-
John, you're already about 95% of the way there. All you need is a razor blade and some shaving gel to close the deal. It's a risk-free proposition at this point. It will only take a few days to grow it back to where you are now. The worst that can happen is you won't like the way you look for 2 or 3 days. And that is a very unlikely outcome. Don't you think it's a chance well worth taking? You'll probably look 10 years younger once it's done.
Stop the agony and do it. You won't have any peace of mind until you do. Take it from someone who's been there.
-
Thanks, all you guys. Your last comments , Raze, hit home. It really is pointless agony. I've got some "public" appearances coming up in July; but I really think around the end of the month, I'll finally "just do it ". As I said on another post, even my wife seems to be getting used to the idea. Not much comment at all on my last --extremely close--buzz cut. As many of you have saide, i'm almost there.... the world at large really will NOT notice a big change. And even if they do; I don't really care anymore. Just months ago I wouldn't have dreamed about buzzing it so close ... but now; it feels "too long" after 4 or 5 days. So, mine may be one of the longest and most drawn out journeys to 'sly', but one that will definitely come to a close. So thanks again (in advance) ... I don't think I'll be able to do this with out you all.
-
John, Glad you're on your way to freedom. You know that life is way to short to put yourself through anymore of the wondering "what if", or "would it really work for me" or "could I really do it and would it really settle all of the mind games that I've been putting myself through". You'll never get any of those questions answered until you simply make up your mind to put all of your fears aside and just take control of the situation instead of continuing to let the situation control you. I hope you'll make it sooner than later. Are any of those "public" appearances going to be better or worse with your short buzz vs a totally SLY and confident look? I hope it goes well for you. I know that for me, the fact that all of the wondering and worrying was gone, was more than enough reason to do it.
-
I can be scary, I know, but if you really want to do it, go for it!
-
If I could do it, anybody can. I've always been pretty resistant to change and not one to push the envelope when it comes to making radical changes to my appearance. You won't see me posting any photos here of tattoos or piercings (unless they belong to somebody else). But the hair is really no big deal. Truly, it isn't. I also asked myself the "Is it me?" question. And to be honest, at first I really wasn't sure if it was. The key is to persevere through the weak moments and not give in to the temptation to grow your hair back right away. That's where this board comes in handy for the crucial support. If you can stick with it for a month, you're home free and before you know it, it will be "you".
Stand outside any decent-sized office building at lunchtime or at the end of the work day and take note of how many sly guys in business suits are entering and exiting the building. That should tell you something. When the look is acceptable in corporate America, then the debate about whether it's acceptable in the world at large is well and truly over.

been lurking through the forums past few days, just wanted to throw my two cents
john you are rocking the sly totally. Gotta pay respects to another sly bro with glasses!
-
John,
I want to apologise to you if my last comments in this thread came over as a bit flippant - I've been shaving my head for pretty much ten years or more now & it's easy to forget that it does take some courage to do the deed for the first time. Anyway, I'm sure you'll do it when you think the time is right & I am sure that once you have you'll be pleased that you did (& I wouldn't be a bit surprised if your wife loved it too) - but in your own time ... & whatever you decide everyone here will support you in that ... whatever is best for you ... that's what counts ...
All the best,
Jon.

Do you mean your "think of the consequences" post! ... That was great! Actually, what I am needing are a few "kicks in the pants" to get me to realize that my stubbly look will be greatly improved--indeed revolutionized--by shaving it all. I took your words as humorous encouragement--nothing more.
By the way, I admire your extremely edgy version of sly. Contemporary and 'arty' but with a definitely unique take. In a very distinctive way, you ROCK the look !

See? You're starting to embrace it already! O:O

Hey thanks John,
That's cool - After reading it again I worried that it may have come over as a touch insensitive & I'd hate to think that I'd offended any of my sly brothers!
thanks for the kind words also .... O0
I too was struck by the similarity between your pic & Razor's .... both great pics if I may say! Well high SLY .... the pair of you! @^t (**!

O0 O0 O0 Ahoy, John. I'm with Baldandre and Razor, as usual. You cannot go back now, and, if you do not go forward, you'll have lost all momentum and self-respect. I was 64 when I went sly, almost a year ago. Never have regretted it. Send us the pic when the period of equivocation is finally over. All best, Professor Melon

Thanks, Prof, I will. The next pic I post will b totally sly.
John

IS THAT A PROMISE JOHN????? YOU CAN DO IT!

Don't look back man. You won't regret it.

John, a shaved head is a nice look for you, so shave it and post a new pic from your shaved head.

I did that too, leave glasses off in the morning, pull the mane back and cover it with my hand and squint. Now I have no mane and never happier!

that word 'equivocation' is really a loaded term--evokes the total opposite of 'sly' Instead of 'confident, bold, assured at ease with self, etc, etc.," ;D ; It it brings up ' unconfident (is this a word???), indecisive, of course 'fence-sitting'; unassertive, unable to 'take charge ' :( ..... This is getting to be about more than 'just hair.' Basic self respect is coming into play here ...
John
