Shaved my head smooth for the first time today.
I've had long hair my entire life, and I'm not losing my hair. It's just that recently I've been told to cut my hair so I can get a real job. I figured that while it is short, and with my new internship still a month away, I should go all the way while I have the chance.
I'm still in disbelief. It doesn't even seem real when I look at myself in the mirror. Nobody I know has seen it yet.
It scares me and excites me at the same time. I can't believe how smooth it is. I'm also glad that I seem to have a nicely shaped head and that my scalp isn't paler than the rest of my face as I feared. What do you think? Also, how long does it usually take to grow back to the length of a 2?

looks clean and evenly colored, nice!
-
Yes, it took me a while to recognize myself in the mirror after I shaved my head. Common experience. You'll get used to the 'new you'.
It looks good. Be sure and give it a full 30 days. you're going to like it.

It looks great.
I had those fears too. Worried about the shape of my head or any childhood scars but I am happy with my outcome and amazed at how many of my friends like it.
You are already asking how long it will take to grow back a couple inches but chances are you may decide to keep it sly.

WOW ! Not sure how long your hair was before, but you carry sly very well.
What profession is your internship?
Short hair or no hair now-a-days is not always an issue for most employment.
So ... enjoy your new freedom and bald fun ... you may decide to keep it !
-
well done, it looks great, keep it smooth!
especially with the beard suits you very well! O0

You look great sly. Give it 30 days to decide whether or not to stay sly. Great looking dome.
Good luck on your internship and on your looking for a real job.

There you go. Welcome to the SBG world and enjoy. Stick with it.

Both LOOOOOOOONG hair and sly bald/radical short buzz are still slightly off the mainstream. Most people and most employers couldn't care less, especially in blue collar and arts professions BUT in some places and some work environments they ARE frowned upon and can even be the deciding factor in whether you get employment or advancement or "make the sale" or "get the girl". It is currently an "employers" market in most fields. We, live in a world of 30 second sound bites and first impressions, where perception IS reality and sadly, we are judged on our appearance.
That said, you look "simply mahvoulous" as Billy Crystal used to say.
IF you are in a employment situation where you think your baldness might be a problem (and only IF), consider going clean shaven as it is perceived as less "nonconformist"/ radical. Similarly do not show up with a short buzz; it still carries "skinhead" overtones. A longer crewcut would not and sly bald would (ironically) not be perceived as "skinhead". If this is your situation, now is also not the time for new tattoos or piercings. When you have been in the job for a while and they know you, know your ability and your work ethic you are probally free to do as you like appearance wise ...unless there is specific policy against of course.
Live long and prosper,

Thanks for the encouragement!
I had been wearing a beanie because I was afraid to show anyone. I figured they'd tell me I looked horrible. I was also paranoid of being called a skinhead because today is Hitler's birthday.
Anyway, today I finally whipped off the beanie and revealed my shining head to my friends. They all thought it looked great! I cut my hair short about a week ago, and they said that I looked better bald than with the regular short haircut. It gave me a huge boost of confidence and the hat has remained off since.
Now, to get some sun. I tan pretty well; just have to get some sunscreen ready and wait for a nice day.

Without being too specific, what field of internship and employment are you going into?
-

Just be careful. I learned the hard way today at a race. It was cloudy for a good part of the race but when I finally left the race somebody noticed how red it was but I couldn't feel it. I could really feel it an hour later.

Welcome! Enjoy the experience!

Looks good!, a bit of sun 10 mins here and there, as you are out and about is the way. I have read hair grows about 1/8" per week, so if that's right 16 weeks O0

It takes time to get used to the look yourself but once you do you won't look back...and once you have accepted it everyone else will too.

Hey footballpats, you look fine with the "skinhead". Keep it smooth, bald-brother, by sticking to the "30-day-rule" - that's shaving slick bald every day for 30 days. This means you get used to seeing the "new" you & helps others to see you as a bald guy and get used to the fact that your intention is to stay a cool, sly dude.
All the best.
