Hi Greg:  Welcome to the sly fraternity.  You look like a natural.  I say it's a keeper. Give it the 30 day rule which is an unwritten rule here on SBGs.  Basically... the new head shaver must keep one's dome smooth for 30 days.  After the 30 days... the new head shaver will either keep it smooth or grow it back.

Most keep it smooth after the 30 days.  I immediately loved my look from the very first day.  You have mentioned the responses from others.  How do you like it?

You look great shaved greg, don't think otherwise. You are only as good as how you feel, let go of the initial shock and start feeling confident about the new cool look. The rest will follow. Congratulations on the headshave.

Let me also say Welcome!

I think you look good with the bald head.  The deep shadows from lack of illumination in the photo give the Frankenstein look, not the bald head.  Get a little more light on the subject and a smile and it will look better.

Agree about the 30 day rule.  I did that when I first started shaving my head. Made that commitment, no matter what others said. Stick with it for 30 days. Then decide.  You'll probably go through some adjustment, which is expected. Thus ride it out.

I'd say most guys that stick the 30 days never go back to hair. They really like it.

You look good.

Welcome.

I honestly think you look incredible shaved bald. If you like it then people will grow to accept it. Right now ignore ANYone else's opinion but your own. You have a great head/face that compliment the slick look very well! Hope you enjoy the slick bald head as long as you want man

You look fine to me. Once the sun hits it and after a week when the skin darkens and matches the rest of you it will look great.  At the moment I have hair but its not my hair as I have a unit and I'm sick of. I have just under 2 weeks to go before my honeymoon and its this point that I plan to ditch it and go the buzz look even down to the sly.

I'm as nervous as hell about it and worried if people will laugh and take the mick.  I can't let that happen as I feel slave to the unit. Stick with it as you do carry the look off well.

People who may laugh lack the confidence to even consider it themselves if they have hair or not. They may well even be wearing a unit themselves and secretly wish they had the guys to do it themselves.

I've never had a barber head shave, but from what I hear on this site, YOU can get it smoother than the barber!  Don't expect a super smooth shave from the barber. But if your shave is still really rough, then maybe the barber can do better.

Be sure your blades are fresh. Take your time the first week or two. use Shave Secret oil and Head slick or other premium shaving lube.

Looks fine to me mate.

Just remember when 'you' are feeling self conscious about something it can seem that 'everyone' is looking at you :)

I wouldn't stress too much about perfectly smooth until you are used to your new routine.

That's so great to hear!  Sly takes nothing but a razor and some confidence which is something anyone is capable of pulling off, though sometimes after a little self reflection.

If your experience is anything like mine you'll be amazed at the compliments you get when you're standing tall and clearly comfortable with yourself.

I sympathize with the weird adjustment period-- why the 30 day rule exists, I believe -- but keep your head up and your shoulders back and graciously accept the compliments you get!   O0

I found from day 1 that I could achieve a closer shave than the barber who originally shaved my head.  No one knows your head better than your own hands.  I highly suggest researching razors and good quality shaving soaps/creams and techniques for achieving a closer shave.

It looks great! try not to worry about family being unsure. My family made it clear when I first shaved recently and still say now, that they dont like my decision to go sly at all. At first I was upset about that response but now I am honestly glad. It taught me that feeling good has to come from within and to not be so darn dependent on approval from others.

If you read your first post and then your later ones they are so different already!

Get an ATX and some headslick or any other good shaver and you'll be looking forward to your shaves, good on you for taking that step!

Welcome to the club, Greg. Don't let the idiots get you down. They're just jealous of how awesome you look.

I have to agree with the guys.  I also think you look great.  Maybe people were laughing beause they are jealous of how great you look and don't really know how to respond to the new look.  I say KEEP it!  You look amazing.

Absolutely nothing wrong with a bald head.

Last night was Installation at the Masonic lodge so we had many visitors. Of 50 odd men only 12-15 had a full head of hair. All others were at various stages of forehead. 5 were full sly (10%)!!! Of those 5, 2 were zero head hair (no beards)

Bald heads are here to stay. Don't fret over the cruelty of those that mock. They do so to cover their own failings and insecurities.

I totally agree. The first week I had a few odd looks and mocking comments from people I already knew. But the rare mocking comments came from people who I was pretty sure would lack the "balls" to do it. It covers their sudden feeling of inferiority.

Greg,

You look great. THe smooth look suits you. Of course, I think it suits most everyone! :)

The odd looks and such you'll get from time to time. You just have to hold your head proudly and those that laugh suffer from the fact their minds are so limited as to laugh at someone "different." Don't fret it, bro. They clearly never learned the Twain phrase "Better to be silent and thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

Stick with the 30-day rule and keep shaving. I have a family event Sunday that is lurking in the back of my mind-- I ponder over it time and again. For that day will be day #15... I already can tell I will not be looking...errr, growing... back LOL

Best of luck and keep it smooth!

Well I've been completely bald almost 24 hours and I love it my barber used a straight razor when she finished she told me it looked so much better then I went to the store I saw a lady friend of mine she thought I look so much better without that nasty comb over hairstyle she invited me out to dinner the only comments I got was positive no more comb over for me come on wind blow I'm not scared of you anymore . Just thoughts from one very happy baldy

My advice is to stay with it; I wouldn't choose anything else now. If I don't shave for more than two or three days I genuinely feel unkempt and untidy; I was also surprised after those two or three days to see how much my hairline had receded and thinned without me knowing or caring.
The guys here were great with support when I needed to get parental approval (yes, even in my forties!) and now my Mum doesn't mind I am virtually permanently bald and I can't see it changing anytime soon.
The look grows on you..........

Tony

I get a barber who does it clandestinely (against the law in my area) straight blade and all.  I go for the experience, I can get it smoother though.
