I know we've talked about our kids before and some different problems we have had with them but does anyone have anything new to share?
My, now almost 15 month old, kept me up all night last night. He's teething and one is coming in right after the other. On top of that he's got some type of cold virus that's going around. About a 2 months ago I posted a story on here about how he got dehydrated and had to go to the emergency room to get fluids in him. I've told this story before but he was also born with a breathing complication and had to come home on a breathing monitor for 4 months. He had stopped breathing in the middle of the night in the hospital nursery after his third day of birth and turned blue. They think it was bad reflux. Anyway, after he was deemed ok and got off the breathing monitor he had to go to the hospital for a heart murmur. The dr. found that there was a small hole that hadn't closed yet but that it "should" by the age of 2. We have to take him back then and get it checked. Then his circumcision didn't heal correctly and he has been back and forth to his regular pediatrician to get that corrected. About a month ago she finally gave up on it and scheduled him to be seen by a urologist to get that point of view. The good news is that the dr. that seen him said that it was an easy fix. But the bads news was that while he was checking my son out he noticed that one of my sons testicles was unusually larger than the other one. He found that there was a large amount of fluid built up around it. Eventually what it came down to is that my son has what they call a "hydrocele." I had never heard of this before and was totally scared out of my mind when he first spoke of it. But after the dr. explained things in more detail he calmed me down. Basically it's just a build up of watery fluid in the scrotum. It comes from a hole in the abdomen that didn't close at birth which should have. It's allowing fluid to come through the abdomen into the scrotum. They say it's totally painless but may cause some discomfort as you guys out there can imagine. They say the surgery for it is very simple and is actually one of the most frequent ones of toddlers at my son's age. That info made me feel a whole lot better. They said it's a real simple surgery and that most kids are up and playing the same day like nothing happened. They say it's safest to take care of it at an early age because if let go major problems can develop. His surgery is scheduled in about 2 weeks. I just feel bad for the little guy because he's been through so much already and he's just over a year old. I hope he's getting all my worries out of the way now and he'll be a good teenager. Yeah right!!! ;D Sorry to go on and on but it feels good to talk about all that stuff. Like I've said before, there is no book on this stuff. Forget all that crap.

Poor liitle guy. Lance, know that you son is in my thoughts and prayers

Lance, My 2 boys are 8 and 11. I can tell you that is does not get easier. But it is all worth it.
You are in my prayers.

Wow Lance.. well sure hope all goes well after the op for a while he and you guys need a break..
well I've got one.. when alicia was about 2 .. we where on vacation so made a nice fire outside just before the sun goes down. so the little was runing all over the place.. eventually she fell on the grass.. so she came to me holding her arm .. I had seen her fall but.. it wasn't so bad.. so anyways we put some ice on it, she kept holding her arm the remaining of the evening.. the next day.. she was still holding her arm in with the other one.. so I checked her and I could not move her arm.. we went to the local hospital.. she had a fractured wrist.. no wonder it was painfull.......she was in a cast for the next 3 weeks.
Now I would say arround 1 month afterwards we put her to bed one night..(she was already in a bed since she was trying to get over the cribs gate).. so we also go to bed.. all of a sunden BANG!..we get up my wife and I.. go to see the little one she had fell off her bed..(we had put some guards on the sides)... we comfort her.. she was ok.. and then she starts vomiting ... and more and more.. like every 5 min. she was vomiting so we quickly grabbed her things and drove to the hospital.. she was vomiting every 5 min... she had a concution.. man what a nightmare she was hospitalise for 4 days under close observations.. scans after scans.. but the what made me feel worst I think it's the doc's questions...........( he took my wife asside and wanted to speak in private with her.. (this guy doesn't know ME>>)... Made us feel like it was our fault like we might have beaten her and stuff like...anyways all turned out ok ......

Wow Lance, had no idea the little guy had been through so much already in his little life. My thoughts and prayers are with you, your wife and especially your son.
-
I keep a good thought for your son, Lance.
One thing's for sure, your son's gonna be a tough "sumbeach" when he gets older (thank pburke for that one).
I'll pour a double Schrotini when I get home this evening.
I'm in San Francisco today saying Hi to Barbara Boxer and Nancy Pelosi.

Hi Lance,
Wow - poor lad - he certainly has been through the mill a bit. It can't be easy for him or you or your wife.
I know I've only just started hanging out here a couple of weeks back but I've really enjoyed reading some of your posts & have a lot of respect for you so I just wanted to add my voice along with all the others who have wished you & your son well - I really hope everything goes well for him from this point on -
All the best to you & all your family.
-
Lance, I truly feel your pain brother. My son has been through the ringer in his short four years since being born. I won't go into the full details, because I know I have before. Just know that your family is in my prayers, and if you ever need someone to talk to I'm here. It gets tiresome, I know. You can PM me anytime or you have my myspace page where you can e-mail me. If you want, I can also give you my cell phone number. Anything at anytime, I'm here for ya.
He'll pull through it like a trooper, I promise you.
All my best, PigPen

Lance: First off, I know it's easier to say everything will be all right when it is someone else's child other than yours so I will refrain. However, a good friend of mine's son had the hydrocele condition. It truly was easily correctable and he made a full recover.
Hang tough my friend - I will say a prayer for him.
-
hey lance.... sorry i'm late but i'm just now reading your post. i'm just going 2 say that i will keep your son in my prayers and that i will pray that u and the family will stay strong during this difficult time. u got a cute little kid (musta got it from the mother's side) :) :) :) anyways.... i hope and pray that everything will turn out fine.

Lance....
As busy as I am lately I pass up a bunch of responses...
But I had to say that my prayers are with you and yer little'n...
dayam....I know how f**kn worried I am about my littl'ns...so I feel your worries, brutha...
lemme just say that I had a similar thang when I was born.....'cept the diverted fluid went to my navel....
so I had an 'OUTY'....like you wouldn't believe....but it wasn't serious and I didn't get it fixed 'till I was 17...
had a belly button the size of a f**kn grape, man....but it was a minor surgery......
Don't worry bro.....God Rocks!!!!

Thanks for everyone taking time to give kind words. I have since learned from a lot of people that this is a very common surgery and is very simple just as most of you have said. So I've calmed down a lot and I am not as worried as before. The only thing that really bothers the wife and I is putting him under. There's always that slim chance that people won't wake back up but I'm going to think positive about that and try not to let it bother me. I remember my mom use to constantly say, "You'll understand why I worry so much when you have kids of your own." I use to blow that statement off all the time. Now I see exactly what she was talking about and feel like an idiot for taking it so lightly.

You wouldn't be the good & loving parents that you so obviously are if you didn't worry a little bit about any medical procedure for your son however small the risk of something actually going wrong - it's only natural
The doctors are pretty good at what they do these days though & I am sure that everything will go just fine.
Have you been given a date for the procedure to be carried out yet?
We'll be routing for you & your little boy.

Hey my sly bro, thanks for being concerned and asking. Yes, as a matter of fact the date is tomorrow the 25th. We're supposed to show up around 8am and I think it's supposed to take them about 1 to 2 hours for prep from what they've said. It's at our local CHKD in Newport News. Thank God they built this one around the corner from me. The only one they had before they built this one about 2 years ago or so was the one in Norfolk. Which isn't too bad a drive for me if I only had to take him a few times but we've been back and forth to CHKD about 10 times since he's been born. But the surgery will be at the one here around the corner from me. Anyway, thanks again for asking and I'll definitely post up and let ya'll know how it goes.

Best of luck for today Lance O0

Lance, I will also be praying for you and your son today.
-
Lance thanks for the update. Will be keeping your son in my prayers all day.

Thanks for everyone's kind words to make me worry less. Just wanted ya'll all to know everything went well and the little one is back home with us. He's doing a lot of sleeping which is to be expected. The whole thing in the door and out only took about an hour and a half. All the people at Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters are awesome. I mean everyone too. Not just the doctors but the whole staff. They really treat your children like they are their own. Couldn't of had a more better experience. The little guy was very upset when he came out of surgery but he's actually wanting to walk around here at home. We're having to keep a close eye on him so that he doesn't get too wild.

Outstanding news Lance, really glad everything went to well.

Hey Shy. He's doing great. The doctors were right. It wasn't bad on him at all. As a matter of fact he was bouncing off the walls a few hours after surgery. We had to try and calm him down. It didn't seem to effect him at all. The only time he would get upset was when I had to apply some gel to his penis where they had to repair the circumcision. But that's all healed up already too. So he's good to go and ready to make us worry about something new. ;D Thanks for asking and have yourself a Happy 4th also bro, as well as the rest of my sly bros and gals.
-
Outstanding news there about Chase, Lance. Glad to hear he is back to his old self. Yeah, and Happy 4th to you and the family too

hey lance. glad he is fine. had to share this about my six yr old. he reminds me of MONK. sometimes he is a little germ freak. well to make a long story short, he just walks up behind me with some hand sanitizer and asks if i need any. after telling him no i figured he was gonna go play with his guinea pig. nnooooooo he gets enough hand sanitizer for about a football team on his hands and is walking around trying to rub it in. maybe ya had to be there, but it was funny as hell to see this munchkin walk up and ask "too much?" while he had this crap almost dripping off his elbows. ha ha ha sorry guys it just tickled that sheet outta me and i figured i would share it. as you were.

Guess he figured daddy needs to clean up his act :*))
