Title: Need some advice on red spots on the back of my head
Post by: parth1988 on March 15, 2013, 10:45:13 PM
I have been shaving with the ATX for about a month now, and I am enjoying it. Definitely better (and less messier) than the balding clippers that I used to use before.
I go ATG on the front side (no problems with this), and WTG on the back. Even with WTG on the back, I get these small red spots like in the picture I have attached. Also, it looks a bit weird because I have a complete shaven look on the front side but still some shadow on the back. I tried ATG on the back side twice but the red spots get out of control. My entire back side is red from the neck upwards. It still hurts a bit just by moving my hand on the neck (even after a day). Initially, I thought I wasn't stretching the neck properly while shaving, but that didn't help either the next time.

I exfoliate using HeadShed in the shower. I use ATX (with HB4 - I have ordered the HB6) and Gillette Shave Gel (http://www.amazon.com/Gillette-Comfort-Advantage-Shave-Gel/dp/B003I87A2M/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top). After shaving, I wash with cold water, and then put witch hazel. I wash it again with cold water, and then put Aloe Vera lotion (or HeadLube).

Any comments/suggestions on reducing the red spots are really appreciated!

Hi,
I've had a similar issue, and ended up shaving every other day instead of every day. It gives the scalp a rest since I shave ATG always. It does get better over time. I do wash my scalp with pro strength Head & Shoulders too, cause the red spots can also be of a fungal nature, especially if they flake, at least thats been the case with me.

Good luck with this!

Jim

Try a topical steroid like Cortizone 10 or Cortaid that should help clear up the irritation on the neck, try shaving your neck every other time you shave just to give it time to heal.

Thanks a lot for the replies guys. I agree with JimM, shaving every other or 2 days has helped lessen the irritation.
