Hello fellow SBG'ers. I am proud to announce I finally did it - did away with the hairpiece and went sly. Man what a relief.
On May 26 I posted my first ever post on this board although I had read most every post in the 3 weeks prior to that. I can't tell you guys thanks enough for all your comments, suggestions and support.
Last Friday with my 10 year old son in tow for support, I visited a local old fashioned barbershop to assist with my debut. He's a guy affectionately known as "Jack the Ripper". Let's just say the nickname fits Jack perfectly. I told him what I was doing and he said "you have come to the right place." He started pulling out blades and showing how close this would cut, etc. Right as he started a friend of mine walked in and in true hairpiece fashion I nearly panicked. He was very supportive and wanted to know if this was my debut. He said it looks great - you should have done it sooner. My son was great - he thought dad looked cool and my wife said I looked 10 years younger. Well, one hurdle cleared - getting home - now we must make our first public outing.
I coach my son's baseball team and we had a game that night. One of my players said, "Coach did you get a buzz?" I took off my cap and he says, "Coach, that is sweet dude!" Does it get any better than that.
Afterwards, lots of people wanted to see and it was nothing but positive. Man what a relief. I made it to church on Sunday and received positive comments. I am a lawyer and had a trial this morning. Judges, bailiffs, clerks, etc were nothing but positive. Man what a relief.
Guys, I just want to say thanks to all of you. I could not have done it without the words of encouragement from you. I look forward to helping guys in the future who find themselves in my position.
Oh, and by the way, I AM NOW OFFICIALLY SLY!!!!!!!!!!!! O0 O0 O0

Hey Mikesj. Thanks for your original post back in late May when I was considering ditching the "piece" and going sly. It was nice to know someone else had made the change and lived through it. I knew I had MPB for the last 23 years - but taking off the toup was very difficult.
This morning I shaved it completely down for the first time and absolutely love it. The last couple of days I had some stubble from the first haircut with the 0A blade that the barber used. I can't see me being any other way. Thanks to all.

Congratulations steve on truly joining the world of the sly. It is the only way to be bro. Really great you are enjoying it. Now how about a pic?
-
Paul: I talked to my daughter last night - the only one in the house with a digital camera. She's supposed to hook me up with a pic I can post. She's 13 so fitting dad into her busy social schedule can be a problem. :/O Pic is coming soon.

Hey, SoonerSteve, congratulations! I've done this a little backwards. I only discovered the site after I took the plunge and went Sly for the very first time last Wednesday. I can relate to the initial stress that comes with the initial presentation of the new look to friends, family and business associates. I've never done anything that has drawn so much attention to my appearance, which is just what guys who are trying to manage thinning hair seek to avoid. I might add that the attention has been very positive. Surprisingly so.
Glad to be SLY! 8)

Sully: My hat is truly off to you. To take the plunge before you ever found this website is amazing. I must admit I was reading this website for about 6 to 8 weeks before I had the guts to go sly. I don't think I could have done it without the support of all the great guys on here. Welcome to SBG. You'll be glad you found us.
