Title: going sly for 1st time
Post by: Jorge513 on March 05, 2013, 05:54:33 AM
I'm only 17 years old and I want to go sly. My hairline is receding, I'm growing a Van Dyke beard to compensate the former. My only problem is my high forehead and the fact that I don't have enough money to buy contacts because thick rimmed wayfarer-like glasses don't look good on a bald guy(imo). What do you think: should I stay or should I go?

Going sly will minimize the "high forehead" effect because the hairline used to gauge your forehead will be gone.

If you have the itch to do it, just do it! Why let your thinning hair dominate your life? Everything, including glasses look great on sly, IMO. Good Luck!

Thicker dark rimmed glasses seem to be preferred over the rimless-wire rimmed types by many on this forum.
Enough so that I think when it comes time for a new pair I'll probably go for a bolder set of frames myself.

The forehead is basically the distance between your eyebrows and hairline. It'll disappear after the fact. And honestly, those glasses don't really change the look for better or worse. Just do it and enjoy it. Take your time and don't try too hard.

Yeah, we don't like each other, me and time, but I guess I'll have to be patient once more  :*))
just one more thing: I've been told than guys who have chest hair at 14 are those who are bald and fat at the age of 25. Is this true or some other stupid science myth?

No, that's just not... anything. Chest hair is probably caused by testosterone, which also causes balding and pretty much everything biologically related to manhood.

I'm thinking that maybe your hairline isn't as bad as you think. Post a pic and let us see. If you are receding then perhaps one day you will go slick but it might not be necessary for years -- or it might be good to do it now. Let's see.

It is a very freeing experience for many including me but I didn't do it until I was 58 and perhaps I would have said that  my hair was receding at your age too. Hair recession can be a very prolonged process in some people. On the other hand I wish I had shaved it off sooner but maybe not in my teens.

You can always grow it back in no time. I shaved my head new years eve for the 2nd time in my life (was 15 1st time).. The only thing different this time (age 26) is that I'm noticing that I'm balding at the top of my head. Its definitely thin and you can see my scalp. The good thing is my forehead doesn't look big at all. It looks smaller than when I had hair.

I will see if its possible to get the top growing naturally again, otherwise I'm not hesitating to go 100% sly.

I suspect that wearing hats and poor diet along with not exercising to a sweat could be keeping hair from growing. I will find out for sure soon.

First time I went sly, I didn't like it so I let it grow back out then about a year later I came across this site and started to learn there were better methods of shaving than I had tried. I acquired the proper tools and gave it another go but this time armed with knowledge from this site and I've been sly ever since.
