Title: I just went sly!
Post by: shavedhead88 on February 23, 2013, 11:09:50 AM
Hi! Me again.  ;) My curiosity got the better of me, I just shaved my head completely bald. It went surprisingly well, considering that I usually use electric shavers to shave my face. I didn't really know what I was doing, I just covered my head with shaving cream and started shaving against the grain.

It feels amazing, I love it. I don't have any irritation or redness, which is surprising because my skin is usually quite sensitive. I'm apparently really good at this  ;D

I'm not sure about how it looks though. I got used to my supershort buzzcut really quickly, but this is something quite different. It's a very extreme look. I'll probably grow it back out and stick with the no guard buzz I had before until it gets warm outside and then try the smooth look again.

I'm quite nervous about going to work on Monday though. I know it will grow out a bit until then but still... Anybody got any tips on how to react should somebody say something?

It looks good and from the sound of it, you like the difference between the super short buzz and the shaved head.  If you've been wearing the super short buzz for a while, many people may not notice a difference when you go back to work Monday.  If anyone says anything, just say it was something you wanted to try.  If you decide to sty sly, you'll notice that your coworkers will adjust to it pretty quickly.

Looks great!

If someone asks why you shaved it, just say..." Duh.. because I wanted to.  Why did you wear that shirt today?"  Then you will get the respect that SLY deserves!  (actually, I cleaned up my original comment  a little before posting..lol.

I just get so irritated with how people feel so free to say and ask whatever judgmental questions/statements they want.

Looks great, congrats on shaving!  O0
For most of the people there's almost no difference between a #0 buzz and a razor shave so don't worry, until Monday you will have a buzz cut.

Looks good (excellent), You did a good job.

Give it 30 days.  (see 30 day rule).  It's too soon to turn back. Give yourself and others a chance to 'give it a try'.

I think a lot of guys are nervous the first few days, especially if they are BBC.  I remember feeling that way the first few days.  But that's a long time ago. Now I can't imagine letting my hair grow out.

Give it a month.

You don't need to explain, but if you feel you must, comment about how good it feels to rub a bald head.  Or something about getting the jump on thinning hair. Or just say that YOU like it.

I found few asked why I shaved my head.  Most just said it looks great. Those who joke .... Mr. Clean or something, you don't need to explain.

My tip would be if you want this look, shave it at weekends, but for work shave after work in the evening. Given your hairline and the shadow my the morning you would have some hair coming thru. Try that for a couple of weeks and if you are keeping the look, shave before work.

Congrats !  Looks awesome !  I know you're glad you sent sly and understand what bald headed brain is thinking.

great response   ;D

and I think it looks great, the difference isnt too drastic in my opinion but I know that it needs some getting used to, give it some time and do what you think works best for you

Looks great. If anyone asks why just say "I wanted a change...". To  most observers though there is almost no difference between a very short buzz and a shave. Most likely no one will say anything.

You can go from buzz to shaved every now and then for a change and then if you start to naturally go bald then you can adopt the slick look permanently.

How about making that pic your avatar?

Looks great! The best thing to do is just treat it as just another haircut....As for comments, some people need to go get lives....

No need to be nervous about going to work on Monday. Say nothing and let others mention it, that's if they will.

Stick with it. It's a great look.

You may find that you won't get nearly as many comments as you think it will. You really can't grow enough hair over a weekendthat people won't think of your head as "shaved". So at this point just tough it out and you'll get a huge host in confidence once you've made it through the day.

Most of us were nervous about what others would say about our new look. I was really surprised that most everyone liked my bald head and had positive comments about it. I'm sure you will get the same,  As for the one or two negative people, just brush them off and don't worry about them. Probably couldn't please them anyway.

Ming is not being negative, but some amount of facial hair (eyebrows don't count) makes a nice contrast, and promotes visual interest.  I prefer to be the center of attention when laying down the law, and so I keep some of the follicles extruding where they can be seen.  Ming rarely goes to the beach, but the Imperial Chest is where it looks as if the head hair went off to hide.  Dale does not know what she's missing.  I'm sure that jerk Flash is glabrous ventrally.  Another smoothie where it does no good at all.

I like how ming refers to himself as the third person.

As well He should.  If Ming wants to be pretentious, He has to do it all by himself.  The Imperial Mana is otherwise depreciated.  Can't have that, and good minions are so hard to find these days..

Iv'e also just recently took the SLY plunge.
I had the barber give me a short buzz and removed 20 odd years of ponytail, then went online to get some info on head shaving and found this excellent website.
Loving it so far and all the comments have been favorable, really makes a guy feel good.
Will post an Avatar picture once I get one.

I kind of like the clean shaven look on the younger guys or maybe even the 5 o'clock shadow look, but I think large amounts of facial hair looks better on the older guys.  That's just me though.  Maybe he could try that and if he likes it, keep growing it out.  Then if it grows out and he doesn't like it, go back to the length that works.

That is just how egomaniacal  despots comport themselves. I do wonder what the "internal affairs" that Ming is "master" of. Would he stoop so low to let us know?

Well done & welcome.
In my opinion, it is a keeper for you as you really look very cool with your shaved head & your attitude is good, too.

Don't worry what others may think or say as it is your hair & your choice to be a cool bald guy.

Thanks so much for the support! I really appreciate all the encouragement.
I really love having my head shaved smooth. I grew it back to a very short buzz though. Both feels amazing, so I'm just going to alternate between the two. But I'm not growing it long again, that's definitely over. I'm tired of the shedding, and this feels so much better.
People's reactions have been ok so far, nothing too unexpected happened. What's weird though is that some people seem to feel that I have to somehow justify myself for making that choice. Which I don't. So that's rather annoying. I mean, I don't expect other people to explain themselves to me on why they choose to look a certain way. They have to like it, not me. So I just don't get that kind of attitude. oh, well...
also, I'm a very introverted and quiet person, so the attention I'm getting now isn't always easy for me. Getting used to it though.

Some people often feel the need to impose their opinions on you, whether invited or not.

Don't be surprised if living the Sly life causes you to become more confident in yourself.  If you're happy being introverted that's fine; but if you would like to be a bit more gregarious that can happen too.

Being Sly is very empowering.  Enjoy it to the max.

Looks good on you mate! Other people's opinions of your hairstyle choice aren't relevant. All that matters is if you like the way you look. I've just gone from a short buzz to full head shave for the first time so the next 30 days are going to be interesting / eye opening I think!

Looks great either way- I shaved on weekend first time and then was very envoy's for work- but once you show up that way the buzz settles down pretty quick and people don't bring it up. Good luck with whatever you decide for now.
