If you're obsessing about it then do something about it. Try a buzzcut and see how you like it. You do have some recession but you don't look like you're thinning that badly yet.

thanks razor

its not really noticeable that im thinning until i put some product in my hair or im standing under a certain light, but its really been getting me down.

if i go for the buzz cut though, will that just make the baldness pattern and recession look even worse?

It'll be more noticable to you than others. who in all honesty they will care less than you, cos it ain't their hair.

There is receeding there and shaving might help. what I will say if you go for a buzzcut cos your hair is dark you will see the hairline more as you have it quite long at the front now which disguises it. However to others that will seem you are just embracing the fact that the hair is going.

I'd start by having a shorter cut, then try buzzing if it gets worse - if you want to shave it off try and do it at the start of the weekend so you can get some growth back before you see others if you hate it. Even the most confident slyguy finds shaving for the first time a shock!

If you are going bald you might want to keep your hair as long as possible cos once you go past the point of no return then that's it sly for life cos the hair ain't coming back! :)
and keep posting for support  O0

Some product and a certain light is never good to check it out. It makes things more worse than they are. I do think as well the thinning is not bad yet. Well a buzz cut,  for sure you would see more skin through the hair which is in the nature of a buzz cut.  A the buzz cut would be more a of statement like "i don't care for my receding Hairline" and possibly signs of thinning.

They best way to answer your question to your self  is to try a buzz cut, IMO. If you like like it could be some kind of a confidence booster. And its a different look for a change. Otherwise it would grow back fast enough. I thought a lot about it and to try it was a relief for me within different aspects.

I agree with the Post before, "..to keep your hair as long as possible because once you go passed the point ... "

thanks for the replies guys i appreciate it.

i get what u say about i will notice it more than others, problem is, its always on my mind and im not happy with it.

i suppose if i try the buzz cut and dont like it then atleast i will know that i dont, that way i can grow it out and go for a longer style maybe.

im going to get it shaved tomorrow after work and il post a pic.

would be great to get you guys opinion when i do

thanks alot

Forgot to say "Welcome on Board"!
It's always good to join a "Club" with other balding Guys !! ;)  Makes it easier to deal with it. Like Saintc said acceptance is the best way to deal with it if you can get there. The Forum is s good way to get there.

Thinking to much about it is not good. I did so, still doing it to much sometimes. Then it again it feel like a waste of time.
O0 Thumb up for the "Barber appointment".

Welcome Ben!

If the way our hair looks is affecting your feelings about your everyday life, what would it hurt to just try soimething different? Buzz it down to a length that you like. Keep it like that a wek or so and then go a little shorter if you like. Stop going shorter when you find something you like. That may be long before you get to the shaving stage and it may not.

You'll know when you get to where you want to be.

Try a short buzz to get used to it then you can go for the shave. In any case if you shave and don't like it - it grows back pretty quickly to stubble. Keep us posted- this is a great place to check in.

Just to add a voice from "the other side,"  I've never thought a buzz on a guy was ever due to mpb, and never made it more noticeable than it already was when longer.  W/ shaved heads I tend to think "nice!"   O0  But I am a little unique.

Outside of photoshop, the only way to tell if you'll like/look good w a shorter haircut is to try it.  The learning curve is fairly short -- looks like a max of two months if your hair grows slowly will get you back to page 1.

And maybe you'll love the buzz and want to go all the way!  And maybe you won't and in a couple of months it'll be like it never happened.

Buzzing/shaving for guys with any degree of mpb seems to be a big confidence booster--you're taking ownership.  So from that angle trying a buzz to see how you like it can be a huge step in the right direction, EVEN if you end up not liking how it looks.

Welcome, Ben! Just remember when you buzz or shave your head to treat it as just another haircut....Don't let outsiders decide how you want to style your hair...good luck and keep us posted!

hello guys.

Firstly i would like to say thank you for your support.

If you have already seen the picture below you will notice that i didnt have my hair cut too short.

I feel like i have let you guys down a little bit by not going for the short buzz as intended. The thing is i got too the barbers and told him my plan and about my worries over baldness, and he said that my hair wasnt too bad and maybe i should go for a shorter style, he said he could always shave it afterwards if i didnt like the shirt style, but i did like it.

It made me think that maybe i should make the most of the hair that iv got whilst iv got it, because when its gone its gone forever.

Id like to thank you all for the support and words of advice that you all gave me and for making me feel welcome, i just dont think im ready to be bald yet :S

bless you all.

peace

ben

Hi Ben,

Really like the hair and in my previous post this is kind of the style I meant. I used to have mine like this and it's a great style. The shorter style at the sides and back make the top look thicker. The previous style you had, like I said in my original post, showed you were receeding but this cut really works for you and makes the hair look a lot thicker, you look like a different guy.My tip is keep the style maintined and keep it short now.

Don't worry about letting people down that you have never met, or in the future those around you that may not give you the advice that you want. Always always do what's best for you.

If your hair is receeding then you may have to revisit shaving it off in the future, or over the next few years go shorter. - remember I said I had my hair like you new cut, well now I can't so my advice is make the most of it whilst you can! However just take it as it comes and don't stress!
My 2nd piece of advice is don't worry about it or let it affect your confidence.

good luck buddy and still post here. New blood on the forum is good!

Great Statement and it looks good this way !!!
If you are not ready yet, that perfectly fine ! And you still have some up on top there (jealous) ;)

Verity of verities--but at the end of the day the danger is holding on and waking up one day with a combover--think Donald Trump, I know bad visuals, really bad visuals.  With that in mind--at least you understand the process.

Don't feel like you're letting us down!

Sounds like your dilemma had a happy ending -- you're happy. And you look great!  So we're happy!

Ben, the photo looks good.
So, as long as your happy then it's great ;)
Though, if you have any second thoughts you know that all you need is a good razor (or a visit to the barber)

Ben, the cut looks good, man! As long as you're happy, we're happy! Remember the concept of this site is to help people keep their heads up about hair loss...not to necessarily shave their head. Hair or no hair, still keep in touch and post often!

I like the hair style too, I had the same one for years.  But it does look like you may be receeding some, maybe its time for a buzz cut  :)

I think your new haircut is a MASSIVE improvement over what you had. With this new cut, the eyes are drawn to the tight sides, which makes the temple recession less noticeable and makes what you have on top look like more. Totally classic cut.

Guys that are experiencing the first pangs of hair loss often try to compensate by growing out what they have, which just draws more attention to the balding areas. The trick is to go shorter.

hello once again my sly friends
thanks for all commenting on my post in the past.
as you will remember i didnt quite go with shaving my hair before but i did attempt a new style which a lot of you agreed you liked. I liked it my self only when the hair grows out from that style even a little bit it starts to look a mess again. in my opinion anyway. and i couldnt afford to have it re cut every few days to keep it looking the way it did.

so i went out and brought some hair clippers and gave myself a grade 1 all over.... i kinda like it... what do you guys think?
i might go for the grade 0 next time :D

so none of my friends have seen my new hair yet and im a bit worried about the reaction i might get from the ladies but i hope it works out.

any opinnions you guys have i would love to hear.

so what do you think?

Hi Ben, The buzzcut looks good. As far as the ladies go, I can tell you that I have received numerous positive comments since I shaved off a full head of hair, most from gals! If you decide to shave, it will grow back to your current length in a few days. The ladies seem to really like the shine on my head.

I think the tight buzz looks great, I have been a big fan of the really short buzz cuts for a long time. I think you'll find that you're going to go to a #0 soon enough and then perhaps a #00000, in which case you're so close... you will feel the shave pulling you like an electromagnet!  ;D

Sure, try some facial hair, as long as it is not scruffy, that might take away from the clean shaved look.

I know a few women who are extremely attracted to bald guys, Ben. wouldn't it be nice if you could find one? You are a good looking young guy, the future looks bright for you!

The shaved head suits you, continue what you're doing, go shorter slowly, get used to it and see where it takes you

Welcome back, Ben...thanks for checking in....The buzz cut looks good, and adding some facial hair can't hurt if that's what you want. I think a goatee or a chinstrap beard would look good even if/when you decide to cut closer and/or shave it. Good luck!

Welcome Ben!

I must say, from a personal perspective, I always loved buzz cuts and shorter hair styles. But as my hair on top got thinner and thinner, I found that I had to go consistently shorter and shorter to make it look "uniform." I too got really depressed over how it was just thin all over the top and missing at the back.

Finally, I said enough is enough after opting to get in the chair and get a super-short buzz cut. I was thinking "listen, I am so close now why don't I just go all the way?"

It was scary, I was certain I was making a mistake, but then I cleaned up and felt the smooth scalp and was like "hmmm... this isn't so bad..." and it's actually helped me carry myself with more confidence now - something I felt uneasy about before when I was feeling that sad feeling of not looking as young as I once was.

Hopefully all the support from the sly guys and gals here will help you feel more confident in whatever choices you opt to take!
