I hope this is the place to post this, if not can someone move it? Thanks!
Anyway, does anyone use Skype? Is it free like Yahoo messenger? My friend that lives in Australia has got Parkensons and it had left him unable to type on the computer, so he and his son has come up with Skype and I just wanted to learn a little bit about it and don't know where to start. Thanks for any info you can give!

Simple. Both get web cam. Download Skype from their website it is free. Set up an account. Search for each other and add one another. Connect and talk. It is all quite intuitive. We use it all the time to speak to friends in the Czech Republic.
-
Argyle described it very well already.
Here is a "How to"- Video as well.

Was tempted.
Now use Skype almost everyday.

Ever since I downloaded Skype the print is alot smaller. Does anyone know how to make the print bigger before I go blind here.

Confused face... What do you mean exactly, where is the print smaller? in your web browser, or your entire pc?
Also, I hope you enjoy Skype, I use it from time to time to talk with a friend of mine in Tasmania!

Something took over my homepage and I had to call Frontier to straighhten it out. Itdid screw up the print. It is not just this site it is all the sites that I go to. I installed Skype though so He and I could talk and he has not been on yet.

You'll have to remember time differences, at the time of seeing this message and replying it is 12:01 PM forum server time, but it's 5:02 AM Australian Eastern Daylight Savings Time.

I use Skype a lot too, but I can't use the webcam function. It unnerves me that I can be seen, so I'm a voice-only kind of guy. I have it on my computer and phone and ipad, so I use it quite a lot.
-
You can't be answering the phone in your skivvies anymore.
-
Exactly. And as I'm usually wearing nothing more than my birthday suit at home, I don't want to give anyone a heart attack.
-
I'm using it for a (excessively boring) conference call as we speak (er, type).

LOL :*)) BBC mate!

Skype is great when I'm on my laptop or desktop. I use Tango (another good app) when I'm on my cell phone.
-
Another +1 for Skype. We use it to talk to my sister-in-law who lives in Hong Knog.
-
The only reason that I even put it on my computer is for my Friend and his wife so we can stay in touch. He either has not been on or I have done something wrong so I will email his son to see what the hold up is.
I have got a webcam, but haven't used it in so long. In fact I couldn't even tell you where it is at. So we will only voice. He has seen me and My Husband and I have seen him and his wife. So, we know what each other look like.
Is anyone else having trouble with their print? My letters are so tiny, that it is hurting my eyes. And I wear glasses!
-
To increase the print try holding down CTRL and pressing the + key a few times.
-
Thanks Tyler. We chatted yesterday and it went off without a hitch! No problems at all. I was relieved because it was the 1st time that I had ever used it and I didn't know what to expect! We voiced! I can't remember what I did with the webcam. Voicing is good enough for me, though! All in all it was great! Thanks guys for letting me know how it was. All that worry for nothing!

Microsoft will retire soon Windows Messenger in favor of Skype. The latest version of skype also allows logging in using hotmail/windows live credentials.
And yes, calls (audio and/or video) with Skype are good quality, even if there are more people on the same call.
-
Yep, they are the new owners of Skype.
-
I haven't touched windows messenger in years, so I can understand why Microsoft would want to find a more profitable option, pity they couldn't come up with something creative and ground breaking themselves. But I've favoured voice chat programs like skype, teamspeak and ventrillo for years. For most text based communications I find Facebook messenger the quickest at the moment.

I have Skype on all DAy, every day. Use it at home when the first line six busy and I need to make a call, or when I'm out of cell phone minutes.
-
I love Faebook! I Have met so many people and have touched base with alot of friends on there!~ I couldn't believe the ease of it, though. It is alot better than Yahoo messenger. Like I said my Friend shakes too bad and doesn't have control over his hands any more. It is really quite sad! On a side note: only 54 days untill we set our clocks forward and only 57 days untill Spring! You can tell that I am tired of winter already!

Don't start the countdown already... It means I'm 57 days away from everything cooling down again! I'm really enjoying my Summer :Xo! Hahaha.
I'm glad your chat went off without a hitch! (just realised I didn't mention anything abou it in the previous post). Had you spoken to him in the past or had you always talked via instant messages?

I left Facebook about a year ago. Got too frustrated with their nonstop changes to the PaGE layout. Spent moored the looking for 'where did the move/rename it' than enjoying the it.
SPRING- I'm already feeling better with the slightly longer days of January. But I'd rather have light in the morning, and wait until April or may for DST.
-
I feel better with the sunshinning also.
We have chatted on yahoo before. Voiced and shared webcam. We really had a nice conversation.
As far as the days untill Spring, I cannot help it. This winter has been cold and snowing. I can't drive i n the snow or ice. My friend and I used to have a standing joke about the daylight hours. I used to laugh and tell him it was our hours. But it doesn't get cold or snow down there where he is at. He is in Perth.
-
Yeah, if it ever snowed in Perth I'd be worried... haha.
I'm glad you had a good convo and may you have many more too, now you've entered the world of skype!

How is this for call of the week. I just checked my hotmail email, and 3 days go, I received an email saying to get skype because they are discontinuing messenger! If only hotmail had timestamps...
-
I never used Hotmail that I know of. They had a chatline? We used to use Yahoo and something else but I can't remember the name for it. Maybe it was ran by Hotmail. What was it called? Anyway, I still use Yahoo ever once in awhile! (only 52 days left untill we set our clocks forward and 62 days untill Spring). Does it snow where you are at Beardman?

Hotmail used to have a messenger, then Microsoft bought hotmail and called it MSN Messenger, then Windows started coming standard with windows messenger, now I guess seeing messenger has been made redundant skype will start coming standard on Windows.
We only get snow in a few places in Australia, where I live is not one of them.
The only safe place to find snow is at about 500ft+ I think, on the tops of some mountains in the great dividing range (the mountain range that runs north-south along the Eastern side of Australia. In terms of actual ski resorts, I think we only have 3 or 4. Well they are the popular ones that come to mind. They are all about 5+ hours away from where I live.
