It takes a lot of practice to get really good at the full headshave.  Learn to follow after your razor with your fingertips.  They will find the missed areas.  Even after five years I only feel like I got an exceptional shave maybe once every two weeks.

Prep is everything!  Hot water and a great gel/creme will make the stubble shave off easier.  Don't rush your shave.

Red's last phrase says it all.... slow down and enjoy the shave. It will yield better results!

Well, since you're from NYC, I guess the way to put it is that achieving the "perfect" shave is sort of like how you get to Carnegie Hall!  Practice, practice, practice.   ;) Your learning curve will be quick, but Mikekoz13 says it all, ". . . slow down and enjoy the shave. It will yield better results!"

Yeah i guess you guys are right...everything it`s fast pace here..(hence the phrase do it in a new york minute), i guess that doesn`t apply to shaving :-[.

Correct, that does not apply to shaving.

Like the other, more experienced fellas said, take your time. It's not a race. Personally, and I hope this doesn't come off too metrosexual, I enjoy my ME time, showering, shaving, and takin care of bitness.

It takes a while to become completley proficient at getting 100% of the stuble.

Also remember what 'you' can feel is not what 'others' can see.

That's key. You're the only one who knows of any missed spots.

I've been shaving for years and still find missed patches from time to time. Don't sweat it. I have yet to miss a patch that my wife can see even after I point it out.

Noob here too; I started the same time you did 12-31-12 and had similar results as you posted. I posted a little about it in my intro referring to it as my "5 o'clock shadow."  I heeded the advice to slow down and was able to get a nice smooth shave like I did on 12-31 this morning.  I know for me I was hyper focused and did better taking my time and relaxing a bit.  Hope this helps.

I am pretty new at this too.  I went sly on 12/16/12.  I still miss some small patches once and a while but it has gotten better with each shave.  The main thing like everyone said is take your time.  If you rush you are guaranteed to miss spots.  I have started to check my head with my hand too.  Sometimes it looks shaved but the feel tells a different story.

Not only will you miss spots if you rush, you'll also probably bleed. Every time I've ever seriously nicked myself, it's because I was in a big hurry. Ditto with missing spots, especially around the ears.

The trick is really to get good enough to start doing it by feel. After awhile, you'll know the contours of your head so well, a smooth shave with minimal missed spots will be second nature.

Lenny, I personally found that my best headshaves came when I actually took the time to just focus on my head and nothing else. That's why unless in extreme emergencies, I shave only when my thoughts and calendar are completely clear. You will get there in time if you keep working at it. Good luck!

I've found, just like the others, that time and prep are key. I think it was NateDawg who said that he needs to shave the back first because it benefits more from the heat of the shower than the softening of the cream, and I find that to really make a difference in my shave, knowing which areas to shave first.
