hey everyone, I've been extremely busy at university over the last few months and never got round to updating my progress on the forum. Over the summer i posted at length about my initial decision to buzz all my hair off in this post:
http://www2.slybaldguys.com/smf/index.php?topic=17587.0
Since then things have went better than expected. In September I finally got the disposable razor out and went completely sly. I was quite socially inactive over the summer due to being a poor student, so none of my friends at home (in Northern Ireland) saw me without my long hair. I didn't tell any of my friends back at university (in England) that i'd shaved or even buzzed my hair off so when I moved back to uni at the end of September everyone was pretty shocked to see I was bald. I was interested to see what peoples responses would be like; a few people seemed to get used to it instantly while others didn't even recognise me walking around town. I took a few jokes initially from my mates but generally people liked it and respected me for doing it. My family and mum in particular like it too since they were never really fans of my longer hair.
One thing I was quite worried about was how it would affect my success with girls, especially this one girl from home, let's call her "Sally". Things were going fine in England girl-wise as when I met new people they had no idea what I looked like before going sly, so the dramatic change was a non-issue. Anyway, I'm back in Northern Ireland for the Christmas holidays and I met up with "Sally" a couple of weeks ago on a night out. I was convinced that she wouldn't find me attractive any more and wouldn't be interested. Things went better than expected though and after the initial "wow, you're so bald", it was just like normal and we really hit it off again. I suppose that put my mind at rest after worrying about it for months. Now I have so much more confidence and can enjoy being young without worrying about my hair ALL THE TIME.
I get a lot of questions from people like "are you going to grow it back?" and I've decided that even if I could (I probably can't) I enjoy being bald too much. It's easy, liberating, a bit 'edgy' for a guy of my age and I've found that drunk strangers are less likely to make fun of a guy with a shaved head than a guy with a receding hairline, probably because the shaved head can look intimidating, haha.
Thanks again to you guys for the inspiration to take control of my life again. I'm gonna try and be a bit more active on the forum now, particularly in helping other young guys address their hair loss and make positive changes in their lives, as most of us know - losing your hair can really get you down, especially at a young age.
Here are some picture of me having fun and being bald.

Awesome post! You look PIMP in the suit! You can tell you're rolling with confidence now. I'm sure "Sally" and other ladies are going to like the new Nathan.

You look like a different guy from the other thread!
A better guy! it suits you!

A better look. You had to shave it!

hey nathan
first off I think you look great - much better without hair then with hair - honestly
your post is a big inspiration for me, maybe you have already read my introduction post on this website - I'm not yet bald, as I had to realize today I'm still scared of looking weird and never being able to attract a beautiful girl again.
I'm now having 8mm on the sides and on top a little longer but when I was massaging my scalp today with a hairbrush at least 100 hairs were coming off and I'm sure it won't be long till everything is gone

I also dated a girl last week and am concerned about her not liking if I would go bald - if I think about it rationally I know that these are not the right reasons to be concerned about but fears are fears and my self-esteem seems to be at an all-time-low after all the things which happend in 2012
I thought I made some progress during the last weeks but I'm really having mood swings at the moment, reading your story and seeing how bravely you are handling your hair loss is quite inspirational though and puts my mind at ease. I'm sure the hard times will go by and reading a story like yours really makes me hopeful - thanks for sharing

Hey there, I remember your original posting, you look like a completely different person!
Your new look really suits you, you are a great example for guys your age who are going through the same thing.

Great Job Nathan and Happy New Year 2013! You might have to hire body guard to keep the girls from wanting to rub/kiss that melon !

Well done, Nathan! Thanks for sharing and congrats!

Great Story. Wow, hire a body guard! That's pretty hot.
And Markus ... thanks for your posting. Hope Nathan's story might be enough to nudge you over the edge. Given the choice of shaving your head bald or pulling it out with a brush ... what would you choose?
I suspect the razor would look better.

thanks for the positive response guys! It's nice to hear that this story has given some younger balding guys something to identify with because psychologically, losing your hair in your teens is a big issue that few people can understand. It's incredibly embarrassing to talk about and I don't think I ever spoke about my hair loss to anyone before posting on this forum.
There comes a point where so much hair is falling out or you realise the effort you're putting in to covering your hair loss and making sure nobody notices it. All the worrying, time and effort just isn't worth it considering you're going to end up bald at some point anyway. Why not just make a statement, take control and embrace it now? You might worry about it affecting personal relationships, but it won't make a difference in the relationships worth having.
Markus I'm really glad you're able to talk about your situation, thanks for your post man. Personally I think you look pretty good with the hair you have and there is no reason you won't look great bald, however this isn't all about looks. Losing your hair seems to be denting your confidence and self-esteem which is much more important than how you think you look. Accepting you're losing your hair at a young age is a big step so congratulations. I suggest taking the next step and buzz/shave it off. I know it seems like a really big deal and you're worried about the effect it will have on your social/love life but I've found that things have actually improved since shaving my head, there's no reason that can't happen for you! And on the off chance that you don't like it, it probably wouldn't take very long to grow your hair back, although i'm almost certain you wouldn't want to. Keep us updated on how you're doing man and good luck!
