Hi all, I decided to bite the bullet three days ago and go sly. I started losing my hair in my late twenties and although I still had enough coverage the grey was taking over. Rather than fight it I decided to go with the current and go sly. First thing I have discovered is you never leave the house without a hat here in Iowa in December/January. Thanks for all the advice that is listed here on this forum. I use Shave Secret, Gilette Foamy Sensitive, then Shick Extreme3. Afterwards I use Mary Kay Satin Hands and Body lotion. So far not a single hint of a breakout. I always break out on my neck after shaving my face but found the Shave Secret works great there as well. Thanks again!

Hey and welcome! Nice to see that the site is constantly attracting new members.
Your look suits you, dont worry about the grey!
-
Welcome. I see your beaming smile. Sly looks good on you.
Where in iowa? Pm if you don't want to post publicly. I have a bald buddy in Sanborn, IA. He was a big encouragement for me to go BBC.

Welcome to SBG!
The look suits you well!

Grey and balding doesn't work well for any of us.Welcome aboard.

Looks great! Welcome to the Sly side of life!
-
Welcome.
Eradicating the gray was my motivation as well. Wouldn't go back for anything.

Streuth, I realise that it's winter in the northern hemisphere but I had no idea how cold it was in Ames, Iowa. It says it is currently minus 12ºC and is not going to go above 0ºC right up to and including Friday which is definitely woolly hat weather. That officially qualifies as "bloody cold". I'm going to assume that you are lucky enough to get snow -- must be good for cross-county skiing if you so desire.
In fact, I'm going to give you an extra 10 points for going slick in weather that cold. It might even be a record for this forum?
Like everyone else says, looks good, natural -- been that way for years. A lot of hairy blokes will be jealous and you will get them thinking.
Welcome, my friend.

Congrats and welcome Cy. That look is working great for you. Like Gary said, you get bonus points for doin the deed in that cold weather. Makes me thankful for being a Texan. Even when it's cold here, it really isn't

My first step into Sly was Jan 19th last year. Middle of winter. Well, winter in Central NC is different that winter in Iowa or Minnesota.
But still, it was not a bad experience at all. Rarely wear hats unless it is blowing out and I'm going to be out for an extended time.
It's ok to go Sly in Winter.

Was taken last February. The Christmas lights were still up, but the amount of morning sunshine suggests later in winter.

G'day mate, welcome to the sly family, you look great! I went sly in the winter too, but as Gary said, an Aussie winter is nothing compared to a winter in the north!
-
G'Day Cy mate,
Welcome to the the Sly Bald Guys Asylum.
Nice intro, take a look around and post often O0

Welcome to the forum Cy. Good choice in taking control over the gray, and the mpb. Enjoy the freedom. O0

The Aussie contingent have given you a 'warm' welcome. Our winters are not nearly as cold as Iowa. I went sly in mid winter and actually enjoyed the cold air on my newly shaved head.

Even those with full heads of hair can go gray. What is wrong with being gray? "Balding" is one thing; "loss of melanin" is another. Ming does not think the two should be in the same category.
Babies are often bald at birth; they are never gray.
Ming would hate to think that becoming Sly is a return to the womb.
The color of your hair should not be the determinant of shaving or not.

I most respectfully disagree.
Gray was the sole reason I shaved my full head of hair. It much too easily stereotyped me as "old."
Which has been proven repeatedly over the past months - when age comes up in conversation I am consistently guessed to be 5 to 10 years less than my chronological age.
I'll take it.
Even then I still don't feel as old as I look.
-
Being gray wasn't the sole factor in deciding to go sly but it was one of the determining factors.

It's funny how people are so variable. Although my beard is going gray or white the hair that was on my head wasn't going gray at all -- just staying the normal blond. I like a grey beard on an older bloke though.

I gotta say some of the older guys with the full on grey or white beards look pretty badass. I'm getting a bit worried over the grey streaks on my own goat though. I'm not nearly ready for that yet.

I'll be audacious and assume I'm one of them 8) and say "Thanks!".

Don't worry too much about it. It's gonna happen sooner or later. Might as well embrace it! (Or get yourself some Just For Men! ;) )

haha You're welcome. Actually yeah, yours was one of the ones I had in mind when sayin that bro. I've thought about the JFM but since I'm working on the full beard, albeit slowly, I'll probably hold off and see how things look later on.
-
First of all welcome CySly. I would say my grey/white hair was one of the reasons that I had wanted to go sly for a while....it didn't look right with the darker beard whereas bald and bearded just seems to work!

I think I resemble that remark too!
